So, here's another post on my way to maggotdome.

With moguls, like powder, it ain't all about carving (although carving a turn is also a good skill to have to be an all-conditions skier). A lot of great powder and big-mountain skiers were mogul skiers/competitors in years past, including the likes of Hattrup, Plake, and a bunch of others.
Yeah powder is where it is at and that is what I live for, but moguls do make you a better skiier(if you don't rip already). I used to avoid them like the plague but the last three years I made it my mission to practice them so I could zipper any bump run I found(I still have a ways to go) and practicing them has been responsible for the biggest jumps in my skill level, on all terrain, in a while. But I will always come back to the pow, especially when my kness finally give out.Quote:

Back in October, a 1st time poster (I think 'mpellietier' or something) posted on gear swap with a bunch of Volkls for sale. It was a JONG fest, I scored (I was sub-20 posts then) a pair of Gotama's for $80, shipped, and they're in great shape. So, what are we supposed to do? Say: "I'll wait for some uber geeky TGR nerd to snatch these up b/c he's part of this interweb community, and when I post, they call me a JONG, so maybe I should back off and let someone else get a screamin deal?"
That sounds pretty retarded to me. Do you really think that more posts=more right to good deals? I don't. Sure, if some of the 3 billion post guys put something up on GS for a great deal, they can sell it to whomevever the want, but they're certainly shouldn't be any kind of 'control' for it.
By setting criteria for someone to meet so that they then become a maggot...well, isn't that fairly anti-maggot anyway? You must work in a cubicle or something.
lol...Take that as a compliment. Cube sentences are not for pussies!

Hehe, if you're talking about Brett, he's never seen the inside of a cubicle in his life. And all he's doing is stirring the soup anyway. Once you get to know him you can see that better.Quote:

I'm going to spend one day a week in moguls next season to train for my level two cert. So excited. :D
Hey, make the most of it! Pick days where they're fairly soft so you don't beat the crap out of yourself. Make sure you're on the right skis too. You probably don't want to be taking Bro Models (or whatever you're normally on) through the bumps. Moguls really are fun once you get the hang of them. And they do give you a great workout.Quote:

Kind of the point...Quote:

Turns are usually kind of dictated by the moguls. If they're spread out and more or less just piles of soft snow, I'll blow through them with big turns at mach. If they're firmer and closer together, you need to turn more and take what they give you. The important thing is to pick your line and mentally be about 4 turns ahead of where you're actually at. Anticipate, absorb, and extend. Keep your head up, ski fall line, and ski your line.Quote:

Yea Bumps! On my Bros. I'd do that all day if there's no fresh pow to be found.

And even better- POWDER MOGULS! Face shots are money!
Here is a picture of sexy me skiing bumps - lookers right:

Head up, feet together, knees together, hands in front, feet over the skis....nice form! Great picture!
More (former) coach and organizer than competitor. But that was a looooong time ago.. Now I just free ski and do some minor league film/photo stuff.
Oh you are making me blush!
Is flirting allowed on the TGR board? 'Cause I would flirt w/you... hee hee.

I used a smiley face didn't I? Sarcasm my friend. Sometimes the interweb makes it hard to sense jokes/sarcasm etc.Quote:

Off-topic now, I suppose, but here's a question: does the fact that I like skiing bumps make me less of a maggot? Obviously, as any sensible skier should, I hope for bottomless days every day (except you need a day every once in a while for just going really fast), but I genuinely enjoy every kind of skiing: bumps, groomers, fast turns through crud on the East Wall, billygoat lines, carvable steeps, natural halfpipes (ooooh Dick's Ditch :D), boxes (suck too much for rails so far), jumping off shit (taking time off from the manmade variety)--you name it, I'll ski it, and I'll smile while doing it.
I may be wrong, but that sentiment seems to embody being a maggot much more than a simple obsession with powder (in reference to shera's post). I had always thought maggots were just people who just really really like to ski, like the guy who wrote to Powdermag talking about Sage Cattabriga skiing in the rain. The collective wit has just been a bonus. Hope I'm right about this...
I've met hundreds of maggots, and I hang out with maggots in real life everyday. It's a little different being a part of the community, as opposed to being a guy like you who has no better place to hide while posting is opinions on a message board. When you decide to leave the house and meet people in real life, let us all know.Quote:
