Yet another example of partiers being oppressed by non-partiers.:nonono2:
This needs a bump for the premiere season... And bummer for Nobis, that he only got one line in Under The Influence...
If you are on an uncrowded road/highway and your car is faster than what is on your ass, I say go for it.
As soon as they are close enough to read your plate, the gig is up.
Mental note!
Do not try to outrun the police/radio in a 30 foot RV! That wont work! Tested that in New Hampshire many years back. Hello roadblock!
I don't think its just winters. A friend and his buddies (all drunk) were being chased by a sheriff just south of syracuse, they got one turn ahead of him and drove into a cornfield (late august-really tall corn) drove for awhile through the tall corn, then ditched the car and found a road. They walked to a bar, called for a ride and got the car the next day. This happened in the early '80s. I don't know if you could pull that off today with all the technology the police have-they'd probably call in a helicopter.Quote:
Must be something about winters in Syracuse
Uh oh! Nobody's heard yet?
Who now?
OMG. Poor guy...
Ohhh, Jeremy....
This after that other dude grabbed his second DUI and killed himself. The mogul skier or whatever.
i heard it on the scanner. he was doing 100 mph south of town weaving through traffic in a green avalanche. got called in as a reddi report.

"poor guy"??????? WTF? How many DUIs does that make? Do you seriously feel sorry for him? He needs to have his license permanently revoked.
WTF? Dude needs to realize he isn't 20 anymore and face the fact that it might be time to stop partying and join the adult community.
I'm not saying that many of us haven't been there. I should have hundreds of DUIs, but somehow managed to weasel my way out of the couple times I had to walk the line, touch my nose, etc.
I'll take a wild guess and say that Jeremy isn't the kind of guy who can have JUST ONE BEER. One leads to 3 leads to 10 leads to.......running from the cops at 100mph cause you already have previous DUIs and still can't stop drinking...
I'll be praying for him. We all make mistakes. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Jeremy Nobis + booze = jail.
Oh, well. Who knows, except for Mr. Nobis, why he insists on driving after drinking? Maybe he thinks taking public transportation is for gay dudes, or he's got a phobia for taxi drivers? In my experience, if he's been caught a couple of times for drinking and driving, he probably drives under the influence all the time. Great skier, but a total retard. At least he has not killed or maimed anyone, yet.
Lot's of personal demons going on there, methinks.
What a fucking idiot.
blew a .08. whats the line in UT?
Habitual offender much?
It's only a matter of time before a repeat DUI offender hurts someone. Here's an extreme example where the offender is charged with murder.
I feel sorry for Nobis and hope he gets help.
EDIT: do you know for sure that he blew .08? Sometimes they'll list it that way if you blow anything over .08 so it might have been 0.8
^^^ Yeah, I do feel sorry for him. It's a total bummer for anybody to be in that kind of trouble.
Let me be the first to say I have drank with Nobis. He held his liqour pretty good for the hour or two we drank at the bar in Vegas. He had some great stories to tell. I like the guy. And that's coming from a person who was hit and almost killed by a drunk driver. I also got out of bed after 45 days in traction partially paralyzed and it took years to heal. Doesn't mean I have any hate for Nobis. He has one hard fukking road ahead of him and I wish him the best in his struggles.
I'm just reserving a space in this epic thread.
nonsense.
What would be a bummer would be being the parent or child or lover of one of the thousands of people killed each year by drunk drivers.
I am guilty of being a drunk driver myself. There are many times in the past that I could have killed myself or another. It's purely luck that I didn't. I wouldn't have deserved any sympathy for my actions and neither does this douchebag. I don't give a fuck how good at any sport a person is. It doesn't excuse their actions.
See, normal people learn from their mistakes and change their behavior. I can't label Nobis an alcoholic. Only he can decide that for himself.
What I can say, as a recovering alcoholic myself, is that his behavior sounds alot like mine used to be. Most alcoholics don't care about anyone but themselves. Due to this attitude alcoholics continue to drink and drive because they don't want to be bothered with taking a bus, paying for a cab, and they probably think their ability really isn't impaired unless they are falling down drunk.
I used to think I was a good driver while hammered! Insanity!
I just hope he gets the help it sounds like he needs. Casual social drinkers don't have multiple DUIs and high speed chases in the span of a few years.
I have to fully agree with whiteroom and doughboy. The "I'm a laid back cool guy with no hard feelings" sympathy parade doesn't do Nobis or society any favors. People like him need help. If they don't get help, they endanger others, and then we must be protected by curtailing their freedoms.
It is sad, but Nobis did it to himself.
Wow, gotta disagree with you on that one. You want to see a total bummer? Come spend some time in the ER (or the morgue) and see some patients hit by drunk drivers. Anyone can make a mistake. Drunk driving is not OK, but I can see how it can happen.... Once. If you have multiple DUIs you need to never drive a car again and there is no excuse for him or anyone else in that situation. Its not a total bummer to be in that much trouble when you've clearly brought it on yourself, repeatedly. "Poor guy" makes him sound like the victim. As in, "that poor guy got run over by Nobis when he got his 8th DUI", that would be a more appropriate use of the term "poor guy".
I am glad to see Ned Stone is representing Jeremy. The guy is a damn fine attorney to have on your side when facing the long arm of the law in Utah.
on our way to the movie premiere last evening I saw two cop SUV's had a barefoot guy out of his vehicle just past the south bridge on 189.
"Ha, that looks like Jeremy Nobis," I claimed. But he already got into loads of trouble and quit drinking so it couldn't be him. and it was early, like around 6p.
...I hope he gets some serious help.
at least they dropped him on his head ,instead of his knees....ouch
To be clear, the above is my story. I should have recognized then that I didn't drink like 'other people'.Quote:
To anyone who thinks you can't get away from police in a car chase, should talk to some of the people I grew up with and did get away.
I did once in Syracuse. two cop cars, and two civilians were chasing me and a friend in a Dodge D50 (four banger-two wheel drive). They tried to box me in on the highway, I did a CRAZY-ass left hand lane change/severe braking just as we were passing an off ramp. I swerved hard right and made the exit, they were going too fast (60 or so). We drove deep into a neighborhood I knew...I found a pretty crowded parking lot, shut off the lights, and just sat tight. They drove right by us 20 minutes or so later, so me and my buddy sat in the truck and drank the six pack that we had 'stolen' from a grocery store...It was after 12:00, so they wouldn't sell it to us. We had no plan to do this, but for some reason, we both had the same idea at the same time....I threw a $10:00 bill on the register, and we both bolted out the door with the sixer of St. Pauli. Two guys from the store tried chasing us, then the cops found us all on the highway speeding...that is when I threw out the Starsky and Hutch clutch move. Totally got away with it.
Good god, that was so stupid, fun, exhilarating, and crazy....ahh, to be 20 again!
Decent time sober now, best thing that ever happened to be (besides getting married).
I have emapthy for Nobis, but not sympathy for his action. Symapthy for the pain he is in psychically, sure.
This is just sad. Dude needs to not drink. Ever. Glad no one got hurt.
This is sad to hear.
For whatever reason, I have always been good about drinking and driving. Even back in college, I just did not do it. I always made a line in the sand, and did one or the other. If I was going to drink, I did not drive. I never went out, and had, say 3 beers, and got behind the wheel. My rule has always been that if I have more than one drink, I don't drive.
I have done plenty of dumb, drunk things, but for some reason I was always able to separate alcohol and driving. Some people don't seem able to do this. They are sometimes fine while sober, but then get behind the wheel after drinks have clouded their judgment. Some people think they won't be over .08 after 3 beers. They are usually wrong. I think many people get into trouble by deciding whether or not to drive based on how they feel. The decision should be based on number of drinks, not how you feel.
Some people can drive to a bar, and take a cab home. Others get behind the wheel, even if the plan had been to take a cab. Those people have to take an extra step: They need to take a cab TO the bars, as well as from the bars. If you can't trust yourself to say no to driving drunk, you need to leave the car at home.
I will echo what some have said, that most folks with multiple DUI's are not getting popped at exactly .08. They are not having 3 beers and driving home. They are usually people who are driving while well above the limit, and doing so regularly.
I wish Nobis the best of luck. I don't want to pass judgment, as I don't know the full story, but it seems like he might need to cut alcohol out of the equation. Getting one DUI SHOULD convince people to be super careful. If it does not, there might be a problem.
There are alcoholics, and there are problem drinkers. Some people fit into both categories, some only one.
