Wait a sec. Is Nuthon actually wearing a color. Gasp.
If there is a round two late this weekend, I've got baby coverage and will be all about some hiking. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thinking about heading up this weekend. Anyone know if there will be enough snow for the Sugarbowl - Squaw traverse this weekend? Haven't done it, but I'm guessing you don't need much depth as it's mostly touring.
I would love to hear how it looks if you do go.
we took that tour last winner and it involved a fair amount of south and west facing to rain that I do not think would be filled in after one storm like that.
we will be up on Monday for a tour if anyone wants to poke around with us
With several days of sunshine between now and then, I think the idea's nuts. Don't have beater AT skis so I took my XCD gear up the neighborhood hill in Truckee and scraped a lot of small rocks even on the fire roads. The SB->Squaw traverse might have gotten twice as much snow, but the rocks are more than twice as large.
With the steeps still pretty bare, the low angle slopes of ole Donner Ski Ranch were much more suited for some no-board turns this morning. Although some of the leeward slopes of Sugar Bowl looked fat. Might have to get up there tomorrow.

Nice ^^ Lookers left of Lincoln, think left of Crow's nest is fairly rock free and skis pretty safe preseason. Or just follow Rahlves around.
That's pretty much what I figured, but I don't know the terrain.
Nope, not from Colfax.

Enough of these stupid 60 degree days already!
Checking in for October 32nd.
Why not?
anybody going to see McConkey tonight at Harrahs?
Randomly stumbled upon the Ski-EO of Heavenly out trick or treating last night.

The Force is unusually strong in this one.
Well he is trick or treating at the right truck. Were they giving out full cases, or just individual bottles?

Anyone think there will be corn by sunday?
N tahoe of course. (srs)
I tried this a couple years ago around this time of year, after there had been one small storm. We opted to hike because there was minimal snow and much of the route is a wind blasted ridge. It ended up being too much snow for hiking but not really enough for skis as it was too thin and disconnected. it was really pretty horrible and we bailed not even 5 miles in off into coldstream canyon.
I'd love to make some turns, but have learned to savor the late months of climbing/biking/hiking season. Early season skiing is usually marginal at best and can be season ending or worse at its worst.
be careful on the early season hikes y'all. Remember what happened last year at Alpine...
Given it was somewhere in the 70s or 80s on the coast yesterday, i'm guessing my previous hopes of any base retention will be a wash.
the warm temps should help consolidate the snow on the ground. what happened two years ago was cold temps turned it all to facets that were easy for a north wind to pick up and blast away.
moderate temps are good for base.
g2a,
I could strap on the feedbag. a post now and then on unofficial networks would help me remember you're at work.
Pray for Moar snow!
Still enough snow for a quick couple of laps up Mt disney on halloween. Got deep enough up top to actually make a few turns but the lower half was thin, was lucky not to hit anything. Alpine looked thiner when we went to check it out but as long as your willing to destroy your bases on the lower half of the mtn there is enough snow up top to make turns
Definitely melting rapidly now. Well not necessarily melting, more condensing than anything. Hope on the horizon though..maybe...possibly..who knows...http://opensnow.com/dailysnow/tahoe
If that November 7 - 10 system delivers, could make for a pretty nice opening weekend at Mammoth.
The models have been very consistent on bringing a wet period, but the details keep changing. The past two days' run have it mostly dry 7-10, but damn wet 11-13,16-18. Regardless, fingers crossed.
Those are showing as links to FB on the mobile. Are there pictures embedded or does one need to sign in to get stoke.
So... long-range GFS runs are starting to show a potential AR event around the 16-18-ish. That'd be sweet, at least if the snow levels are low enough.
Fixed it!

yeah but sugar bowl doesn't look like corral loop or sidewinder does now. they still have tons of snow (or did you get the order backwards?).
was that Matt skiing with you?
PD. That was Matt. Order was right. Were you walking with nacho and your other dog Saturday near corral / sidewinder? If it was I almost asked you for change. Gold outback with two bikes on roof and a sup taxi.
The three of us should go ski some time and let the dogs meet. Shoulder is doing much better since my dog cut me off near the bench a few weeks ago. Damn chipmunks get him distracted.

yeah that was me. the other dog is healing up from a sickness that really bothers her when she gets a lot of exercise. thus the walking and not biking then.
looking forward to the next system.
I don't suppose anybody here has some 120cm combi race skis they want to offload? I'm looking for my 7-year-old daughter.
