I went to laid back poke shack for lunch today. They made a couple updates to their menu, lowering some prices and adding free toppings (edamame, pineapple, mango, radishes, etc). Definitely recommend it.

For Thai food, I went to Skewered Thai the other night for dinner, was pleased and will go back. I also like Chanon, though the GF prefers Ekamai so we don’t get to Chanon very often. Sawadee is ok. Not exactly Thai food, but I’ve been to East-West Connection a couple times and didn’t really like it - thought it was greasy and lacking in flavor.

my favorite around downtown is Thai Chili, in the back of a dingy supermarket on I think state st, as it actually gets properly spicy

There are apparently a few african restaraunts in the area that I have been meaning to try, but I'm trying to save money and my waistline by bringing lunch to work recently. Having been working out here for 7 years I've got to explore a bit. Friends recently went to the Peruvian restaraunt out in the subway plaza across from the westerner they said was really good.
Their food was good the one time we went but the service was atrocious. Is it always like that? Ekami is good, Channon is good, Tea Rose in Murray is fantastic.Quote:

I’ve only been once so far, but I did notice that the service was a little off. The waitress was REALLY hurried. They didn’t ignore us or anything like that though, my water was refilled a couple times I think.
Bad service is the kiss of death for restaurants in SLC. And unfortunately it’s a constant. The booze laws and Mormon date nights (Fri Sat) make it tough to get big check amts, which affects tips. There will never be a ‘professional server’ class in SLC like you get at great restaurants in other cities. It’s a bummer.
It’s Tofu in Cottonwood Heights down by the Target off Ft Union is awesome Korean food. Terrible name, great food.
Apparently, Harbor in SH has one of the best service in town, my coworker said it was all professionals, slightly older than the hipster class downtown, and presented fantastic and attentive service that on par with larger cities, so maybe there is hope?Quote:

No surprise but it was indeed the best. I was always a Rizzo's guy (close to where I lived in Astoria) but will confess this was better. The best pizza I've ever had.
It also came after a night staying in the Bowery hotel, eating at One If By Land, Two If By Sea (the rabbit schnitzel was to die for), and celebrating my brother's wedding with an afterparty at the bar at the Bowery. If you can spend 24 hours in Manhattan, this is not a bad way to do it.

2nd time dining at 350 Main in DT PC last month . Got a res for 10:00 and wasn’t totally swamped. Definitely a bunch of industry people in there though. On the high priced park city menu, I ate at Chimayo the other night, and if you think strictly about the food, ignore price, it was fucking great. Everyone in the party thought the food was fantastic. I have eaten there twice before in the past several years, and it was same experience, outstanding. Pricy? Yes.
I ate at 350 main once several years ago, and yeah, very expensive, but also very good.
OH, it was Park City. Now it makes sense. That's fucking ridiculous. The prices just reflect how the gap between rich and poor in this country is getting absurd, and, unfortunately, it's concentrated in ski towns (or what used to pass for a ski town), like PC. Last year I couldn't but a seat in just a little better than mediocre places in Telluride, all the while having some trendy young punk cop attitude in my face at the register. For fucking Chinese food! You really wonder if the customers live in places that have decent food, or just accept 40 buck fake Vietnamese entrees as worth it. After probably waiting an hour to get seated.
I just spent five weeks in northern Italy, and ate a lot of good food. A lot. Some medium priced, some high by Italian standards. The quality of food and service was incredible, and the prices were always quite fair, sometimes a little laughable. What the fuck is wrong with Americans with money that they want to throw it away on stupid menus like that. Fuck, there's gotta be some Mexican nearby that is three times as good, and one third the cost. I know there is in SLC.
