Trackhead, I didn't start a flame war & disappear.I'm on vacation with limited access to the net.I was skiing up north with MD9 today, J thanks so much, you are an awesome tour guide!
I was angry & didn't consider the ramifications of posting about my experiences.I knew that my post would offend some that live here, that is mine to deal with. A friend I went to highschool with was a cop .Another friend has applied to the ATF as well as several other agencies.I'm not automatically anti-cop.
I was supremely pissed off at the way things went down.I'm here on a ski trip, not buying crack in the hood.I wasn't asked to evacuate.I had loaded weapons pointed at me,& was either asked questions or briefly interrogated, depending on your political views.I don't know who went through my room;dogs or cops or DEA & possibly firemen went through my room & things.I'm an American whether or not other things in life have freaked people out ;I don't live in a country where the "Little People" live in fear,or am I mistaken? Something about the boy who cried wolf comes to mind.Several of my friends that have lived here for well over a decade think that the cops like this sort of thing, not dread it.When I talked with the MOD at ESA,she said she could guarentee that it wouldn't happen again, because she would deny the agencies access.I laughed & I told her that the smell still remained, how could she tell me that she could control several different agencies & that some other fearful traveller wouldn't have freaked out the next night over the same thing.
VG I'm not flaming anyone, other than those involved.Maybe you were there & saw it differently, but your perception is no more valid than mine .The fact that you are on one end of the gun & I'm on the other might reflect our differing perceptions.I felt like once they got a "tip" , they had the green light,& decided they could do most anything they wanted. This is my perception. When I'm outside the skiing community & culture here,I feel out of place .Call it what you will, but it is my perception ,not yours.Others have experienced the same thing, still others don't believe it could be true.IMO ,absolute power corrupts absolutely.Did I take liberties in my post, you bet. There were no Swasticas or actual nazis present. The rest about guns,(Yes I was close enough to hear them cocking & uncocking their weapons)DEA,dogs, devices , quantity of men & equipment,Hazmat gear
all was true.My camera battery was recharging & I was very tired after skiing & sleepy,I was pissed I didn't get to take pictures.
I'm not part of the mainstream, personal liberties are exceptionally big in my philosophy.
I'll say it again,I love skiing here,& the beauty of this incredible place.I have a plethora of awesome friends that live here. Everytime I come here,on some level I always think I should move here, but something just doesn't sit right with me & keeps me where I am.
I'm tired and must disappear for sleep & skiing.Lets go SNOW!
you are right freshie i wasnt there and this was an experience you shared through your eyes. i am not from utah and have no clue what their departments work like.
my experience is that we wouldnt be as harsh as you described solely on a tip alone. they would need much more information, that you are not privy too in your short time with them, to act as aggressively as they did. im sure there was a lengthy investigation that led them to that hotel. you only saw the stage act without seeing behind the scenes. i guarantee, whatever they did do was in their own safety first, your safety, and believe it or not the safety of the dick running the lab.
[QUOTE=vanilla gorilla]i would like to know how much freshie embelished his story to get a reaction from his audience? like TH said, none of us were there. but several points i would like to make regarding freshies post.
1. most departments have modern semi auto weapons that dont have exposed hammers so there wouldnt be a cocked hammer to see. there are exceptions of course.
2. most dogs are trained to find finished product not the active lab (so if a cop ever tells you his dog alerted on your lab start asking questions:D )(there are exceptions to this too though)
3. i am not aware of any portable "air sniffing device" that detects labs. i could be wrong. if a cop ever tells you his portable meth lab sniffing watch detected your lab then call bullshit.
You were not there either. I myself have seen several instances where cops behaved very abusively towards people for no good reason. It is said that bad apples ruin the reputation of good cops, but given the number of abusive police officers out there it would certainley not be a surprise if the cops behaved in a manner in which they should not have. You have no knowledge of the situation either so do not run your mouth.
Still laughing! Hilarious!
Middle & upper class folks sat back and watched policing ratchet up to new levels during the crack epidemic in the 80's/90's. Innocent people got shot left and right in the rush of sweeping changes in law enforcement and the war against drugs.
BUT...
Because the victims were poor, disenfranchised blacks and latinos in the inner city... people the majority are conditioned to believe are guilty before proven innocent, it was seen as a smart move and praised. Al Sharpton and company were vilified in the press for taking to the streets to protest police brutality. Of course the excessive force was justified! Look at those criminals and the slums they live in! Chants of "No justice... No peace" struck fear in the hearts of 'white flight' suburbanites who called for stiffer penalties for drug offenses and tougher policing.
NOW...
Many of these things formerly seen as overreaching policing have become standard operating procedure in precincts around the country. Now the middle and upper class has the meth boogeyman in their midst and the meth head tweaker can blend in with polite society, the only giveaway being their rotten teeth and desperate demeanor. Now you get roused out of your sleep for an illegal search, your cars are broken into in what you thought were good neighborhoods in the burbs! The cops rough you up... pull you over because you 'look suspicious'... point loaded guns at ya?
AND...
Now you feel violated? Don't blame the cops, this behavior was praised by the majority when there was no chance the gun would be pointed at them.
Take pot shots at each other all you want. You reap what you sow.
your post count is at 911 bklyntrayc. how apt! :)

Wow. That really says it all. With that I think this problem has been intelligently solved and we can all go back to dreaming of snow. ;)Quote:

There's some mechanism in the human mind that acts like blinders. Thankfully it seems that with enough media coverage, those blinders can be overcome as was the case with Hurricane Katrina and the outcry over the administrations feeble initial forrays into New Orleans. Maybe what we need is more unbiased information to be streamed at us non stop until we simply can't ignore it.
I guess the real issue though might just be that the vast majority of US citizens are fucking clueless to anything outside the Primetime lineup. Pick a random sample of folks off the street and ask them where Darfur is. You'll get blank stares. Our culture has been trained to be lazy, numb and grossly ill informed about the world we live in. The govt. likes it that way, it makes it easier for them to passs off sound bites and install idiots in office.
It's through discourse, much like the one going on in this thread that we do ourselves the greatest service. Wrestling with the issues and voicing opinions. Will this thread solve anything other than to show that spineless maggots hide behind an alias? Dunno? But it sure beat JONG'ing Vitmain I.
Dude, you totally forgot Rwanda.
In March 2003 I was told that I, as an American should mind my own fucking business.Quote:

Freshie, sounds like a horrible experience, but you can't blame the hotel. Okay, so they're popular for methheads - but so are lots of other motels - so, up your budget and stay somewhere a little nicer.
btw, I thought Palmdale, CA was the meth-amphetamine capital of the US. The New Yorker had a whole thing on that fact a couple years ago... I've never stopped in Palmdale ever again (it's on the way to Mammoth from LA), not even to go to Baja Fresh.
Seconded. It's a bit like listening to a group of eight year olds with Anger Disorder Syndrome beat the shit out of each other over who's mom makes the best apple pie. At the end of it, you're still not sure who's mama's got the best pie, you're pretty sure it wasn't really worth the punch up, and you're sure as hell going nowhere near these lunatics houses to find out in person.Quote:

Hate to see the worst thread ever go by without getting in on it.

sans culotte -- you're a fucking pussy. Man, you didn't just cross a line, you took a running start. I have to wonder what other sort of shit you may be trying to dig up about other maggots.
Seconded.Quote:

YC,there is so much to this story,I've only scratched the surface. That's the way it's going to stay,I've got TR's to write ,pics to post ,& skiing to do.Oh yeah and that mundane life maintenance BS!
This is obviously a touchy subject for many people,I believe in a good debate on serious subjects, but this is not what was intended.
Back to the stoke & the snow!
