Honestly, I don't understand the changes to the AT3W. It was simply the best AT tire available. Double bonus points for easily lasting 40k on my HD truck (K02's only made it to 25k). I have a pile of AT4's to go onto a few that are currently wearing AT3W's. This will be a heck of a real world trial. I'll report back at the end of the year.Quote:

How many miles are on your stock shocks? I fixed uneven K02 wear with new shocks on a Tundra. It got 60k from the last set of K02's. Prior to that they were cupping badly and would go 40k-ish before becoming unbearable. Same experience with a Silverado 1/2 ton.Quote:

That’s great info. The truck still drives smooth and they look in good shape. Are there any telltale signs to look for? Look close for them seeping oil. Fronts went faster than rears for me (first gen Tundra).
Yeah, I wasn't happy with the lifespan at all. I went to Icons, so far so good.
Well, I just bought the Nokian Outpost nAT tires, and Raceline wheels to replace the OEM tires and wheels on my new Ram truck. Hope it goes well.
I run the 5100 Bills and have 40k on them without issue. Tons of dudes I know run them as well as they are highly touted on several truck forums without issue.

The Mich LTX AT2 is a great summer/all season but I would not expect much of it for snow. I use them for May through November usage only, and one year I put them on during a late March heatwave only to have cold April snowstorms and the winter traction was pretty poor. The best thing about this tire is that it’s extremely smooove on the highway and also great for heavy payloads or towing (at least in my E rated size on a 3/4 ton).
That's why I like the mag reviews on this thread, since they tend to be winter performance-specific.
Looking for new winters for a 2nd Gen Tundra. I currently have unstudded Cooper Snow Claws, and have used the old Cooper M+S in the past. They do well in deep snow and soft snow, wear well, but are only OK on ice, which there's a fair amount of in the Sierra. I live in Carson City, where it doesn't snow a ton and winter temps often get into the low 50s. I have a old beater sedan I commute in, so the truck mostly gets used in winter for getting into the Sierra when there's going to be bad weather. I also do a trip or two to the western Sierra Foothills and quite a few trips to the Eastern Sierra. Those often involve a few miles of rough rocky approach roads. If I get 15-20k miles of usable life out of the tire I'll be good. I want to keep deep unplowed highway and trailhead capability but be more confident on ice. Don't care about noise, and as long as wet/dry pavement driving isn't significantly sketchier than with a summer mud terrain I'm good.
Looking at Hakkapelitta LT3, studded or unstudded, Blizzak LTs, studded Cooper Snow Claws, or a studded AT. The mountain CHP SUVs mostly run studded duratracs from what I've seen. Opinions or other ideas?
Studded winter tires - my opinion. Have them on my Land Cruiser. Currently using Firestone winterforce 2’s. There are times where it’s one of the only vehicles getting in or out of my neighborhood along with awd/4wd using chains. During those times, my awd car with snow tires will not make it up the road (down is sketchier w/o 4lo).
I'm going into winter 2 on studded LT3s on my F-150. They replaced LT2s that had about 30k and were at 50% or so tread (but over six seasons, so I considered them aged out).
I've managed to avoid driving the LT3s in really warm temps, but around 60 the LT2s felt mushy to me and I assume were eating tread quickly. If you're good with 15-20k out of a set and can swallow the price, I think the Nokians would work for you. I had the LT2s on a fair number of minimally maintained USFS roads the first winter I had the truck, and they performed well in my estimation (honestly, they did at least as well in spring conditions, even without frozen stuff, as the cheap AT tires I ran in the summer).
