Anyone have an accurate, first hand account of the accumulation at bridger base today?
I am always amazed at the befuddlement of Bozeman drivers when it comes to stop signs... ESPECIALLY during storm. College at 11th and 8th was a damn shit show trying to get home from work.
18 inches at bridger, dense, slabby snow. Fun in the meadows, sketchy where it's steep.

^Like where? Not sure if anything would be more stable in the surrounding mountains. Low angle stuff like alpine and way out below north bowl could be a blast.
Heard the same thing, really slabby. Rain/ice crust going on or something. Low angle is skiing nice, provided you have the width to keep it fun.

Got out today with the pup, headed up PK for my usual safe route, but this snow is movin fo sho. I had about a 50-70 yard fracture about 4-6" of soft slab on my first ski cut. Prolly could of just skied it, but with the dog in tow we played it safe.
If you are in some steep shit it could get scary in a hurry...

Better in terms of not as many people, not in terms of steeper or better stability. I am definitely sticking to low angle stuff tomorrow. Might try bear canyon, but i've never been, so i'd be trusting my partner to take me to some low angle stuff.Quote:

Bummed to be out of town(in North Dakota, no less)and miss the big dump, but glad it is filling in and looking like Winter. At least I didn't miss out while the lifts were spinning, and I get to check out a UND-St. Cloud State hockey game tonight in Grand Forks. Have fun packin' down the pow and be safe out there! Can't wait to get back home and see and ski snow covered peaks after two weeks on the High Plains.

I did go up to Bridger today. Got up to the base at 9:45 (pretty late, TONS of cars in the lot) to find the summer road closed. Probably for the better, would have been a shit show. Started skinning at 10:00 and went all the way up to the apron right above the Alpine lift. Whoever put in the skin track, damn, it was awkward to say the least.
Got halfway up the apron and came upon two guys that were in the process of digging a pit. There were a few weak layers throughout the new two feet or so. Nothing to shit your pants about, but definitely something to think about.
With this info we decided to continue skinning up the track in the relative safety that was provided by the fact that it was on somewhat of a ridge. We crossed (one by one) the apron right under Hidden Gully on the debris from a small slide that had come out of Hidden Gully. Upon reaching the other side, we dug again, same story. We decided to descend through the trees, and it was actually really fun!
We then built and sessioned a road gap just to the South of the top of the Alpine lift.
After that we made our way over to the ramp, skinned up that to a secret hide away. Stayed a while at said hideaway and then picked our very, very fun way down to the truck.
Twas a good day.
