Haven't tried the comps but I will say the AM R99 is no slouch. I can hit the gas pedal occasionally and have been quite happy on the AM R99s. To the point that I don't know if I'd really like the comps any more. And late in the day after some pocket beers, I haven't felt like the skis are trying to make me pay for my transgressions.

The R99 comps are just an insanely well balanced ski. The flex profile, dampness, and shape all complement each other very well. They might be the perfect JHMR daily driver between storms.
Had them out this past weekend and they just kill it everywhere. Maching GS turns down skied out groomers with piles of crud, check. Destroying funky mank, a breeze. Cold chalk, love it. They ski bumps well too. Maybe I’m one of the crazies for not detuning, but I’ve had no issues with hooking the tips either.
If another production run popped up I’d snap up a couple pairs without hesitation.
What was the shortest length the 87/99 AMs came in? 182? Want to get my fiancé on board but that may be a touch long for a true DD for her.

Hopping in on the first batch was clutch, that’s for sure. Really disappointed Blossom wasn’t easier for MO to work with. It will definitely make me more aware of the terrain coverage I take them into now.

I have skied with the beginner GF a few days on my Comps this year. They ski slow so easily, really enjoyable actually. They don’t need mach schnell at all times, though they do excel there.Quote:

I had the latest gen MX98 and enjoyed them but just sold because the R99 does it all better. The R99 dampness, smoothness, and truck factor are superior. This of course was a toned down MX98 so I’m not making claims on the beloved generation.Quote:

Once on snow it was just awesome. It was a wet, heavy sierra cement kind of day and the skis just stayed planted and felt so damp like nothing I have ridden. I don't know where this should live as there isn't a swallowtail 120 thread, but i'm looking for guidance on mount point for the 187 FR120s. I'm 5'10", 155lbs before any gear, ski faster than most and am a very directional skier who has typically gotten along very well with more fall line skis (like the FL113s) mounted on or slightly back from the recommended line. 307 bsl in dobermans if it matters. Standing on the 86.25cm from the tail mount line feels forward to me, but if mounting back from recommended is frowned upon for this ski i'm willing to give it a try. Intended use case for these skis is a storm day/low viz/limited terrain pow ski that won't make me go back to the car to switch skis out as things get cut up like a 132 or 138 would. Happy to send you a pm about this if that is easier but I figured others may have questions on the mount as well.
Also, these things are gorgeous. The finish on them is world class and the construction of the swallowtail with the aluminum insert is something that was lacking on igneous and DB swallowtails in the past.
Similar boat but heavier by 50 lbs. MO suggested -2 from recommended line for me. I haven’t gotten the skis yet so TBD
I’m sure Marshal will start a dedicated thread for the swallowtails eventually.
the tail wrap is huge for durability, something both the Tabla Rasa and Sanouk struggled with. I think you’ll be ok to go back a cm or 2, the point of the tail is to sink in pow. Can’t wait for mine to show up, haven’t been this excited for a new pair of skis ever!
Mounted the BC version at -7cm and I’m a pretty neutral skier, not super aggressive. Only two days in mixed conditions and I’m happy with the mount point, which makes me think going back 1 or 2 for your style might be the best bet.
