istanbul. and I'm going back on 11th of sept. :) I'll think about the climbing offer. but I've been seriously sick the last days and still have to watch out a bit. I guess I couldn't adapt to the 20 degree temperature drop from there to here. the mountains at the other end of lake zurich where white when I came back. I couldn't believe it. when I left it was still about 35° around noon. what happened? do you know a wheathermap archive? I'ld like to have a look at that..
Thanks for the link. I'm living in Hamburg, so not exactly the western edge, but it isn't exactly close to anything here (except the hookers and blow on the reeperbahn).Quote:

so im going to be in Switzerland for the spring studying abroad. Specifically in Geneva. What should I do as far as passes, eurorail, ect. I want to ski as much as possible, which means every wknd. Should I look at getting a cheap pass somewhere. Any recs on this one. How bout eurorail. Should I look at getting something for travel. Cham, Engelberg, will be skied, but realistically I cant afford to travel there every wknd. any help would be most appreciated, Cant wait to ski w/ some of you guys. thanks again
day passes for the skiing. too late to get any use out of a season pass.Quote:

you can probably get a student discount for the swiss trains. check out:
http://www.sbb.ch
LostintheTrees lives in Geneva, you can probably mooch rides off of him.
Also, getting valais-skicard.ch might be a good bet... You can charge money on it, and then just tick days off at different resorts (the resortlist is at the webpage)... I had that in Jan and it worked out well, works in Leysin, Villars and 4-Vallees (Verb), but sadly not in G3000.
If you get a good price with a eurorail-ticket, that migth be pretty useful, provided you want to see yurp and not just the slopes (Paris, Vienna etc.).
whaaaa...no champoussin? no G3000? no SSB?Quote:

That should get you back to Geneva.
They also sell a 1/2 price pass for 150 CHF/year, and there is a monthly deal too.
That's your transport scene worked out, more or less.
As for ski passes, not sure what to tell you.
For trains and resorts, plan to ski Alpes Vaudoises or Vallais (that's a ton of options).
Why? The train line runs from Geneva to Brig/Visp.
Find a map and see it follow the Rhone River upstream.
Then look at all the mountains on either side of that line. Drool. And pick one.
www.cff.ch choose the english option
have fun typing in Geneva to ??? and see if the train arrives at 08h30 or not.
France is another option from Geneva, but I know nothing about it.
yeah, my bad on that one. the term is from late Jan-May. Thinking of going a wk early.Quote:

given your term dates, you may want to think about a season pass. i'll have the alpes vaudoise pass, which at full price the breakeven days is about 19. so gauge your possible/probable days and see if it's worth your while. there's probably a student discount available which will lower the price and lower your breakeven days. the downside, obviously, is that it will limit you do a small number of resorts. it does include 4 half price vouchers for resorts in the valais tho.
snow down to 1700m last night.
Since I might be doing some European Traveling in October, What's the 411 on things so Far.
Great to see this at the top again.
That is all.
If you guys come to Cham then let me know as I'll be there from the 12th November.
