Whoa. This one, right this second, is crazy. It has 4 cams but the pier one has fast moving water...

^^^ whoa!!
20 tornadoes reported today across FL. Crazy.
Sounds like it’s coming in further south (Sarasota and Ft Myers) and there are a lot of people not evacuated in those areas than in the Tampa/St Pete’s area. Ugh, not good.
My brother & SIL who I wrote about earlier in this thread are way north of this current storm. But SIL was born in Miami and has lots of friends & family scattered all over Florida. Since they have a small farm in GA they offered up spare beds or RV space on the farm in case anyone wanted to evacuate.
So far the only evacuee to show up is “Buddy” the horse.
12” of rain has already fallen in the Tampa area.
Large tornado touched down about a mile from my parents house in Vero Beach.
17” of rain in St Pete’s.
Part of the roof of Tropicana Field ripped off.
The field was suppose to house first responders helping with response.
Read that st Pete potable water system is shutdown because a main broke.
A bit early to declare victory, but so far things don't seem quite as dire as the predictions. Seems like the worst damage so far was due to the tornadoes.
I understand they made other plans when they found out Tropicana Field was only rated for 110mph winds of short duration.
Tornado on the E. coast did fuck up a county sherrif's office, with what looked like 40 or so cop cars trapped by a collapsed roof and structural steel.

people make a lot of mistakes about who controls the weather
they’re not political appointees, of course
the most senior one has been there since the Reagan administration. his name is Dennis (he won’t give his last name)
he keeps saying he’s going to retire, the commute is getting to him
they operate out of Abraham Lincoln’s eye (the left one) in Mount Rushmore and getting there is just impossible
the office politics are a mess, too
Dennis is all about waterspouts
Sheila has her heart set on derechos for everyone and she won’t take no
Karen on the other hand favors haboobs
(they choose them based entirely on how much fun they are to say)
most days they don’t agree on any weather at all
but when they have a big deadline coming up they stay late and order in sandwiches and you can see the eye shining late into the night
don’t tell FEMA about us, they are always saying. FEMA will be so upset that we exist, all those hours of work they put in, trying to help people
or the National Weather Service, says Karen
oh god, Sheila says, imagine the weather service finding out!
trying to track storms, trying to get good information, when all they need to do is come here and grab a sharpie
it’s a good thing for us that everyone who has been looking for a group of people controlling the weather has been so antisemitic, says Dennis. this is the last place they will think to look
that is a common mistake
if anything the office is a little too Christian for comfort
there is a bible on a shelf marked open to the flood for easy reference and sometimes for inspiration Sheila goes and flips through Revelation
but yes they move hurricanes all over the map
that’s the primary thing that they do
the second one is decide what to order for lunch
this often takes a long time
it is not that they’re indifferent to human suffering exactly but they have a quota to reach or they don’t get paid
and Sheila needs the health insurance
a few years ago they had budget cuts and it was just awful
so little weather
and once, drawing some winds on the map, they ran out of ink and a gale died down and several boats that had been about to founder on Lake Michigan were saved
it’s not really political although they are prepared to be political if given direction
there is a big chart in the office listing who voted how and if you call your congressman he can try to get them to stop the winds
so far no congressman has succeeded
only one ever even managed to call and they were so surprised they picked up
but then they just sat on the line saying nothing and finally he gave up
they’re honestly mostly good community members although Karen has been volunteering less
she says, because of Everything That’s Going On and won’t elaborate
Dennis goes online and gives without apparent irony to the gofundme’s of the victims of his storms
and then he shows up monday and gets back to moving them around
i think Donald Trump will come shut them down
if he can find them
he has to know where to look
when Donald Trump gets back in power he is ending the whole enterprise for good
or sending the worst storm that he can think of to his least favorite people
he’s still making his mind up which
of course they’re real
(as real as the button that you push for economic prosperity. big and red and in the oval office. you can’t miss it)
sometimes people talk about climate change but we know nothing we can do makes any difference, we can’t even get them to keep serving breakfast at taco bell
all the important decisions are made in rooms we aren’t in so we can’t possibly impact the weather
but the government can and they are
there’s a room somewhere
we just have to keep looking for the room
Huh?
Shout out to the Tocobaga Indians, once again.

In positive news, our beloved 2015 QX80 is going to be totaled, just as a lot of little shit was starting to go wrong with it.
My wife has been driving a Silverado all week, and now really is digging the truck. Her uncle is CEO of Tallahassee Ford, and we are headed that way Saturday to drop off her rental and buy something. I have her leaning heavily to the 2020 Raptor they have on the lot. THAT would be a pretty fun positive out of this storm.
Oh, and I will probably get a new roof, which I will pay to upgrade to metal stone coated tiles and put R rated foam underneath. Should cut my energy bill by 40% + in the summer, and the roof is a lifetime roof. No more worrying about that.
Lastly, we have to drywall 2 ft of most of the house so the plaster guy can do the finish work. My girls will be learning a trade. Nothing wrong with all of us having a little more sweat equity in this home of ours.
Little wins in the face of so much shit. Thankful last night went our way, but sad for friends that it really didn't.
Good news for the most part warthog! My kids came away unscathed thankfully! One of them will be without power for a couple days It sounds like but that is the worst of it.

I tend to leave the hypothetical "What Ifs" to my wife. I deal in reality response. No point worrying about what might happen, just respond to what does happen. Might be my Eagle Scout background? Either way, we work well together. She plans for every scenario and I am the mind and muscle that handles it all. She also handles all the paperwork and yelling at people. She is much scarier than I am, I blame the Sicilians.
One major positive out of this, my girls get to see how well their parents work in crisis. There has been little to no freaking out or yelling between us two. The kids got a little heat when they acted like this was only affecting them. Typical teenager shit, but we didn't have no time for that, and they got lit up by both of us.
I hope this experience turns out to be a great learning time for them, and they strive to find someone that compliments their strengths and weaknesses as well.
The twister that was generally near my parents house actually touched down about 75yds away. Sounds like there house is mostly fine accept for a few solar panels.
I haven't seen any pics as they have no internet and limited cell but they have a genny.

This is just fantastic: Presbyterians and Hipsters. How Asheville is getting on with it after Hurricane Helene.
Weird thing is: You can still get a cold beer.
And with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s late last week, a cold beer was a pretty attractive proposition. At the Burial Beer Company, one of those excruciatingly hip little places with which downtown Asheville is positively thick, the owners have been bringing in ice along with the food and other supplies being provided at no charge to anybody who asks. Today, they’re making catfish and BLTs, and by the look of the bacon, they aren’t holding back the good stuff. (Which—why would they? It’s not like the refrigerators are working.) There’s a tip jar out with a fair number of twenties and at least one fifty in it, but no talk of money otherwise.
....
People are cheerful and talkative, cooperative, and very scrupulously polite at intersections with dark traffic lights. It isn’t exactly a festival atmosphere, and people are already anxious about the prospects for the city’s tourism-driven economy.
....
All that anxiety comes out in other ways, too. Social media and the old-fashioned face-to-face rumor mill have produced thousands of imbecilic tall tales about FEMA refusing supplies or roving gangs pillaging them. There are reports of shooting sprees in the streets and gunfights at the gas stations, none of which are, as far as anybody can document, actually true.
...
“Our presbytery was mobilized,” James says. “Other churches I had worked with, too, started getting in touch. I’d been at First Pres in Columbia, South Carolina, and they’re coming up with a truck tomorrow. We have others bringing up diapers, wipes, baby products. We’re one of the only places that has diapers and baby stuff.” The nested failures of our material supports—digital communication, electricity, water, diesel and gasoline, transportation—are not lost on a minister who is inclined to see in all things the work of Providence.
“Whether it was the pandemic or Hurricane Helene, it unmoors you from the daily lie that you are self-sufficient,” James says. “These moments are an unadulterated opportunity to trust God, daily, moment by moment. We’re a church that understands that we have been shown grace and mercy by God, and we want to be a conduit of that to the people of Asheville.”

Lol irony or the NHL/ Biden Kamala weather control machine missed the date by a few days....
NHL game Hurricanes at Tampa Bay today
(postponed)
Too soon?
Well, human caused climate change is fake and the government can't do anything right except regularly carry out massive conspiracies to control the weather /s
This is my parents neighborhood. There house is generally fine but some on their block are literally gone.

Dr Marshall Shepherd today, “NWS has confirmed some EF3 tornadoes from Milton. Tornadoes are very common with tropical systems but not that strong.....That's quite rare. While the destruction in Tampa Bay is typical of a Cat 3, the tornado damage in South Florida is alarming.”
Lemme see if I got this summarized keerectly:
1. Spread lies about FEMA aid being withheld based on voting pattterns
2. Watch misinformation result in militia enthusiasts threatening safety of FEMA workers, resulting in temporary withholding of aid
3. Use campaign stops as opportunity to threaten withholding of FEMA aid as political weapon
4. Profit!!
kr·ekt. This is how things work now

I don't get those comics with the horribly drawn people. Why is the guy's face all black in the 2024 panel and is that supposed to be the same guy on the left in 2007 or the guy on the right? I'm confused.
Pretty accurate. I would add say that the Trump campaign and his gang of fascists are actively spewing out loads of lies to better their image. If Trump gets into office, they will gut agencies like FEMA if not out right defund them. Then blame the Dems for all the bad things that about to befall the poor and less fortunate.
It's a Chad meme. Yes, same guy with his parents back in '07 vs 2024. The black signifies hostility directed at him and handling it like a 'Chad.' #knowyourmeme
Many boomers & zoomers are not cognitively prepared to handle what's coming within the next few years with AI images becoming virtually undetectable. It's already happening, in fact:

Philosophical description of the phenomena in postmodern culture, "Henceforth, it is the map that precedes the territory—precession of simulacra—it is the map that engenders the territory and if we were to revive the fable today, it would be the territory whose shreds are slowly rotting across the map."

I'd bet good money that Russian troll farms started alot of this crap.
