How is a Boxter a 917?
Which is the car AKR referenced. The Porsche 917 by anyone who mentions Porsche 917.
A wagon because that's how it's being branded. There is next to no increased utility. Maybe an easier to find box mounting system.

Wagon In Name Only. WINO. Just thought of that. It's gonna be hudge.
Wino, Heh. What would you consider an AMC Eagle?
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the extreme angled rear windows either in most new wagons. Seems to take away some decent cubic footage. Try cramming a dresser into some of these new wagons. No problem with my XC70 tho! That said, my wife and I REALLY want the upcoming V90, angled rear window or not. Haha. Then again, hopefully we'll be making enough loot where the Porsche "wagon" ends up being a real contender. That wouldn't be too shabby either. As long as we can toss the dogs in the back, the brats in the back seat, and the gear in a roofbox, we'll be happy.
Oooooh, speaking of bonkers wagons with roof boxes I can't wait to see what Jon Olssen does to his Panamera Shooting Brake.
When I was in HS, my best friend's dad had an '83 SC. One day he mentioned to me that he was thinking of trading it in on a 996 Turbo, and asked what I thought of that idea. I told him that I thought he should keep the SC, because while it wasn't as fast or as new as the 996, it was a much nicer, classier car.
He's still got the SC today. Looks just like this:

Europe still gets the 5 series wagon. We get the GT turds because kept women think they're more like a crossover and less like an "uncool" wagon.
It's ridiculous.
3 series wagon isn't going anywhere. We already get a 4 series GT hatch if someone wants that awful option.
Why are all the people in the entire USA who want the 6 mt awd diesel krautwagons posting on TGR?
I hope so too but I see a ton of new 3 wagons on the road around me. 2 neighbors alone have diesel variants which look really sharp.
That Panamera is not a shooting brake. Shooting brakes are two doors with an extended roofline, hatch type tailgate and lots of glass, they have great visibility and utility for a small(ish) car. I'm getting really tired of the poor and incorrect use of the term. Call them what they are - WAGONS or estates if you're of the euro persuasion. Think Volvo 1800ES when you think of shooting brakes.
Theyre merging the boxster (718 spyder) and cayman (718 coupe) to the 718 line from what I understand. Makes sense, the two are close enough and complimentary.
I actually agree. Much rather own a Macan than a Shooting Brake Panamera/ Sport Turismo.
But your Audi/BMW wagon folks will snatch em up. Panamera is also the slowest selling Porsche next to the Cayman, so they need to do something.
Shooting-brake originated as an early 19th century British term[1] for a vehicle used to carry shooting parties[2] with their equipment and game. The term brake[3] was initially a chassis used to break in horses — and was subsequently used to describe a motorized vehicle.
The term was later applied to custom-built wagons by high-end coachbuilders and subsequently became synonymous with station wagon or estate.
Seems to me it is a broader term, than what you think. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/shooting-brake
Whoops. My bad. I knew they had gone to just numbers, so they can introduce the Miata fighter. IMO, they are still Boxster and Gayman.

I guess it was such a dumb comparison, I didn't really get what he was talking about. Between him telling me that the Panamera was not on a 918 platform, and talking about a 50 year old race car, Its hard to understand him. There is not just one 917.
This is also a 917

Multiple engines and horsepower for various applications.
917 has 11 different variants, so a singular 917 doesn't exist. There are two road legal 917s. There are 918 road legal 918s.
I just don't understand wtf he is talking about?
Got much seat time in either car?
I would imagine a 917 feels like an uncomfortable death trap. From experience, I can tell you the 918 is the most remarkable car I have ever driven/sold.
Most people don't compare race cars and production cars. Actually. No one does.
A logical argument would've been with this car. (The Carrera GT, not the 4.0)

On a different note. I don't really get what Gumball is about... A bunch of Eurotrash driving like dickheads?
BEAUTY!!
and speed!!! :D

I would feel honored just to drive behind that beast (most likely an association lasting mere seconds as I disappear in its rear view mirror {if it even HAS a rear-view mirror! ;)}) ;) ;)
I don't like the headlight treatment, though. I wish they would have kept the racing version's twin headlights.
Guess the make and model of the other two vehicles in the pic.
More Beauty!
Fucking Delicious!!!!! I like this Dauer rendition of the 962 way more than the Japanese version above. The front fender and "hood" treatment harkens more to the original 62
Note that neither of these are kit cars nor replicars.

How would you love to take that thing for a spin on your nearest touring road? : p
I don't know exactly what I would do for that, but it probably wouldn't be legal! ;)
Based on the vids I've seen, yes. Bragging about # of tickets is a major part of the race.
Not a fan of Caymans? I drove a very clean 2.7L 06 or so recently. The 2.7L is slow and kind of tame even with a 6spd, but it's a very nice drive outside of not being tall-people friendly, fast or spacious like a 2+2. The new Cayman profile '13 or so + looks damn good to me. An S with the larger displacement motor and a little tuning and you should have an incredible car.
