ON3P SKIS Discussion

I have not skied the 17/18 BG yet - only the 16/17. I also own 13/14 BGs and am a total fanboi.

I found the 16/17 BG to be fairly dramatically better on hard snow than my 13/14s. I was shocked at how much better it was, actually. It's obviously still no Wren but it was way better than my old ones. If they've improved it even more, awesome. The only thing the 13/14 BG was lacking compared to some competitors was some versatility due to fairly uninspiring hard snow performance - in soft snow it was king.

Was it enough to get me to replace my BGs? No, but I only ski mine on pow days and don't care that much about firm snow performance. But if someone finds themselves on firm snow more often or is daily driving a BG then the improvements are significant. I also think the improvements will be quite helpful for the RES touring skis. I'm really excited about the Steeple 116 and really hoping the blended core works out well enough to at least offer as a custom option.

This is why I put kingpins on a pair of Wren 98's. You still get wren-like performance (obviously not the same as the 108 but I suspect still better than you're going to get with the touring layup) but it weighs significantly less (nearly half a pound per ski). And they're actually pretty great in powder for a ski that's only 98mm underfoot.

At 184cm...

Wren 108 - 2.25 kg
Wren 98 - 2.12 kg
Steeple 108 - 2.04 kg

Having said that, I wouldn't do this if it I was my only touring ski, as I'd still want something wider for deep days. But hauling around 2.25kg all the time would get old IMO. That's almost how much the Billy Goats weigh in the same length.

As for these sub 1800 gram skis out there, they still get deflected pretty easily by heavier snow (think Tahoe or PNW). Don't believe it when people say they don't. Which is totally fine for many people but I really hate that feeling.

Has anyone skied both the wrenegade 108 and an armada invictus 108? If so, any thoughts on the relative performance for top end charging, pow float, and ability to release/skid/slarve? Thanks.

Iggy or PowTron, any word on if this is happening?

There is a prototype in the works. If that is successful there will be some up for sale (very limited quantity).

Please make skis in a 194-196cm range for 2019.. preferably the billy goat and wren, the hardest charging skis you have. Both the 191 BG and 191 Wren 113 are great for charging and maneuverability, but I sometimes wish for a bit more stability at uber high speeds.

Im going to have to skip purchase on next seasons skis again, unfortunately, due to the lack of length. 6'3", 220 lbs tower of power over here... not want, necessity.

Here's my advice, Blizzard is doing a run of the original bodacious in 196 next year. Buy that. They have the sales volume to do a ski like that.

Already well discussed.

Long BG is likely in (193cm...so most brands 195cm and 197cm if it came with the full twin your 191cm has).

Flat tail comp Wren 108 is likely in (in a size we can actually sell).

Long (190+) Wren is not. We're still sitting on pairs from the run of (5) 191cm we did over a year ago, so let's put to bed any notion that we're missing out on significant sales here with a 191-196cm Wren.

Former two will happen if we have time. Both will require preorder and will cost more. In the meantime, I'm focused on selling skis that keep the lights on in here.

Next year is time to re-up the quiver. I've been DDing my 11/12 191 BGs, with some kartel 106s for slow/noodly days. Don't want to replace the kartels, need to add a wren and probably a new BG. Sounds like the newer BG will be a lot like mine on soft and variable snow (a little better?), but way less survival skiing on groomers. Recommend me a wren to complete the quiver for 90% tahoe/10% interior BC. Waffling between 98/108. I want to justify a C&D, but have had 4 days in the last two years where it would be better than a BG.

EDIT: I got on the 108s last spring, they're fun. Didn't get onto the 98s.

The 98 is easier to ski but has a lower speed limit. The 108 is more stable but requires more effort. I'd make the call based on that more than on waist width.

Is ON3P ever going to experiment with 5 dimensional skis/ fat skis with a small turning radius?
I love my old wrens, and was considering ON3P for my fat touring ski, but every larger ski has a 24m+ radius at >184cm size, and I was looking for 18m-ish

^^ Why not just buy some Wailer 112's and be done with it. ;-)

Wait, I always assumed they had a short radius so maybe I'm just dead wrong.
