Sugar Bowl only has Jerome and Christmas Tree scheduled and they're on hold even. [/Hella Sad Face]
Sugarbowl reported 36" of new snow this morn.
Lets just say that I droped the Sugar Daddys off on the way home to have 3 core shots filled. Upper half is getting there but the wind really did a number blowing away ALOT of this new snow, bottom half still really bony.
Cali would not be my choice today, if I get out it will either be Stagecoach or PH.
zippy was right. no kirkwood today. cohee seemed to think that 6 and 10 were unlikely for tuesday as well. You know it is bad if he is already being pessimistic 24 hours in advance.
well off to either the heave or sierra.
WTF?? They are only showing Bunny and Snowkirk open. They can't even run 5 and 11?
You can't get there from here anyway, but so sorry for you maggots snowed in up there with nothing open.
I was planning on calling in snowed in today. But with the winds...so not worth it. Got some good turns yesterday, but there's only so much fun you can have on low angle and cold slow lifts. So, instead I "drove" back in semi-whiteout conditions, waited for hours at the pass to be shuttled through, dealt with tons of gapers on 50 who don't understand that "remove chains" means just that.:cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:
Oh yeah, and I left Kirkwood at 2. Got to SF at midnight. :nonono2: :nonono2:
Got my sweet day in on Friday at Kirkwood.. Nice getting thigh deep at full speed with a 178 swallowtail, and over waist deep on deep turns in the chutes... Great day...
Almost tried to day trip yesterday (Sunday), but kinda glad I didn't. I was worried about the road conditions, and it sounds like it was pretty gnarly... Went through that mess once last year, didn't feel up to it again driving solo...
Wednesday is looking like my next sick day... Wish it could be sooner, but sounds like the winds might be conspiring against anything too epic before then... At least it's fully going off now... Should make for some good spring skiing now too...
I'm still planning on Wed...
Preparing for a Wednesday trip, but it almost sounds like it's going to storm and snow all through Saturday.
Onehotchili - If you get any "inside" info on whether alpine is going to open tomorrow make sure to post. I am not sure if I need to be sick tomorrow or Wednesday.
Motherfuckin wind!! Babies momma has the next 2 days off and I wanna ski the deepness. I guess if I have to hike then I have to hike.
The worst part is that I bet the snow ain't gonna be super deep come Wednesday with all the wind packing it down real nice.
What's the best way to track the weather forecast for Tahoe? Need to make a call on rallying down there early than planned for Wed or waiting for Thursday.

Snuck in 2 ½ hours at the Heave today. Canyon was running on the upper mountain, top half was really wind affected, but the lower half was knee-deep goodness. Skiers right of the power poles were mighty fine off Powderbowl . Found a good line skiers left trees of the face, you definitely wanted to be off in the trees or you scraped though. Ended the day hiking upper Avy, well worth it!!! Starting to really shape up now, so good I had to do a second lap, still some lurkers to watch out for. But pretty easy to make it ¾ of the way down.
Good news is the wind is not quite so bad and the snow is piling up. Second hike up Avy my boot track was gone from the lap before.
Thanks Ja. We will try to reestablish that boot pack....if only for a run at a time.
My brother is on 80 near Truckee...he's called twice in 45 mins. Both times in the same spot :)
Howdy Shin! Wunderground for truckee seems to be fairly accurate and has links to snotel sensors for real time snow totals. http://www.wunderground.com/US/CA/Truckee.html
With that said, this weather system is so big and has been going for so long, I don't think any of the forecasters know exactly what is going on. Most places already have 4 plus feet since Thursday night with the heaviest still supposed to come tonight. The snotel sensor at the css lab by sugar bowl is reporting another 20 inchs in the last 24 hours. This week is going to be big no matter what!
Squaw: Nuking all day, still nuking. KT opened at 10:15. Few people here. Not too windy. Fun stuff.
Shugs update - 80 Eastbound. From Truckee, 3 hrs 12 mins, 5.5 miles traveled....
"He's so bored, he doesn't even want to watch his Slingbox on his PDA,"
Couple things he's pissed about...
1) Leaving Squaw as KT opens to try to leave back to the Bay
2) No food or water in the car
3) Traffic not moving
Got a call from Capt Ron. He tried to leave early (noon) to beat whatever traffic there would be. Sounded like he's in the exact same situation. Caltrans is now reporting that traffic is being held at stateline on 80 due to spin-outs, so I bet that's what they are dealing with.
kt was unreal.
but you already knew that.
in real time.
i took one picture with my phone of dwanis.
i have to send it to my cpu through the bluetooth type waves.
