...SNOW ADVISORY IN EFFECT ABOVE 6500 FEET FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM PST WEDNESDAY...
--Discussion...Temperatures below are forecast for the peaks and the base, with highs and lows for both. Yesterday's Low/ High_Caples Lake (7,800' and just up the road from Kirkwood); 38/ 49, Similar to the Top; 30/ 36.
-OVERALL SITUATION TODAY - and Thursday - Clouds increase today with isolated snow showers possible in the morning, becoming scattered and eventually numerous in the afternoon and evening. With snow levels near 6,500 feet today, the lake should see a rain/ snow mix. Significant snowfall is expected above 6,500 feet. Tonight snow levels drop to near 6,000 feet for snow down to lake level, but lighter. On Thursday snow levels go back to near 6,500 feet with additional significant snow at the resort, mainly in the afternoon and on through the night.
--THROUGH 6 DAYS - Friday and Saturday - Low pressure advances northward some, placing the area under a subtropical plume of moisture with snow levels varying from 7,500 to 8,500 feet. We expect a huge amount of rain and snow to fall. The low should remain stationary offshore as blocking high pressure keeps it from moving inland. Significant rain and snow showers are expected each day, with some seriously heavy snowfall potential above 7,500 feet. Small changes in the location of the low offshore could mean large changes in expected weather, but things are looking more on track.
Sunday through Tuesday - Sunday and Monday low pressure moves slowly across the area with colder air for snow levels down to under 7,000 feet. Monday and Tuesday we see snow levels near 5,000+ feet with significant snowfall still possible, but not on the order of what we see coming Thursday through Saturday
8500ft snow level this weekend?
That's great!!
Anybody got a wake board?

I know huckasoreass has some sick boards for this type of snow...wonder if I could borrow them....

Not sure I've ever seen a forecast like that, being from Alberta.
I'm starting to think that the trip I booked to Tahoe next week WAS a good idea...
But with snow levels dropping to below base elevation by Monday. Can't hurt to hope.
And Heavenly has a elevation of over 10000 feet, no?

Just don't crash.
I don't care how wet it is, 2 feet is blower. Friday will be off the hook.
i am going skiing again. Its will have been 55 days since i last put on ski boots. And its snowing. im going to be twitching like a crack addict on the drive up.
FYI, NOAA says that North Tahoe will get heavy snow from 2am-10am Friday, then a break, then precip (hopefully snow) starts up again on Saturday. Tomorrow should be off the hook for them who can hit it.
Did I miss something? 0" at heavenly and 1" at Kirkwood?
looks lik ethey have toned tomorrow down too...noaa saya only 1.2 to 1.8" of moisture coming in tomorrow...looks like 8-12" of batter...above 7500:rolleyes: I love getting psyched up by meterologists!:cussing: :cussing:
MAMMOTH....nuff said
measuring snow totals before any snow falls. Hello...
FRIDAY???
Rose with base of 8000 feet and maybe they'll open more terrain
Squaw if the upper mt is open otherwise KT to Fingers is money and Fingers to base at 6200 is a nice swim
Heavenly with peak at 10,000 feet?
Other?
This storm is just could enough to screw rose... the snow up in the chutes is for sure two feet of completely faceted snow. Drop 3' of snow on it and its all going to rip to the ground as soon as they bomb it, right?
Best case for rose (and the tahoe BC) would have been an inch of rain up to 11K before temps dropped... or am I missing something?
Fuck it. I'm just depressed. Snow level 8000 feet for Saturday, yay for snow-rain mix.
:( :( :( :(
Finally get my hopes up, to just have them squashed by some weak, warm systems. I'm still going up this weekend, but I won't like it.
