Oh it was, and it started long before that, but we can't change the past. This conversation started in the present bklyn, about a scenario that unfolded a few nights ago. It's not a diatribe about a new social problem, but a social problem. Humans are funny in that we have a difficult time comprehending without experiencing.

What's amazing is that we can see it on TV and it's still not real unitl it happens first hand, until it actually touches our realm. Then we get it in a hurry. How long did we know about the holocaust before we stopped it? Same thing only with far more media in Darfur, and Azerbaijan etc.

There's some mechanism in the human mind that acts like blinders. Thankfully it seems that with enough media coverage, those blinders can be overcome as was the case with Hurricane Katrina and the outcry over the administrations feeble initial forrays into New Orleans. Maybe what we need is more unbiased information to be streamed at us non stop until we simply can't ignore it.

I guess the real issue though might just be that the vast majority of US citizens are fucking clueless to anything outside the Primetime lineup. Pick a random sample of folks off the street and ask them where Darfur is. You'll get blank stares. Our culture has been trained to be lazy, numb and grossly ill informed about the world we live in. The govt. likes it that way, it makes it easier for them to passs off sound bites and install idiots in office.

It's through discourse, much like the one going on in this thread that we do ourselves the greatest service. Wrestling with the issues and voicing opinions. Will this thread solve anything other than to show that spineless maggots hide behind an alias? Dunno? But it sure beat JONG'ing Vitmain I.

btw, I thought Palmdale, CA was the meth-amphetamine capital of the US. The New Yorker had a whole thing on that fact a couple years ago... I've never stopped in Palmdale ever again (it's on the way to Mammoth from LA), not even to go to Baja Fresh.

I just got back from Utah,the snow was yet again stellar today.

VG, there was no long investigation,the smell was noticed that night;the troops showed up a couple of hours later.

YC,there is so much to this story,I've only scratched the surface. That's the way it's going to stay,I've got TR's to write ,pics to post ,& skiing to do.Oh yeah and that mundane life maintenance BS!

This is obviously a touchy subject for many people,I believe in a good debate on serious subjects,but this is not what was intended.
