I really am undecided, although I am decidedly more sympathetic to the democratic position. ;) I hope to never be the type to blindly vote for a democrat or a republican just because that person is democrat/republican.

consider that the people I talk politics with are my age. All of the republicans I know that are my age are pretty stupid people (not because of their political views, just because they are moronic).

Republican politics make sense in theory, I suppose. However, the politicians that attempt to put republicanism into practice generally do so in a way that makes absolutely no sense to me. It seems like the entire republican machine is driven by money, and money alone.

You might have noticed that I edited my post and also apologized to Dr G for calling him a fuckwit.

Let me clarify for you -- there are no rules.
Republicans are generally right wing (i.e. conservitive). But there are two types of conservitives -- fiscal (free market economy good) and social conservitives (God good, family good). So the social conservities are anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-drugs while their fiscal brothers don't care at all.

Democrats are generally left wing (i.e. socialist). Better living for all through social engineering (e.g. take from the rich and give to the poor).

There a description of left-right politics here. Notice that left-right camps aren't the complete opposites. They just find different things imporant.

Most people end up in one camp or the other because of a few key personal issues. Plus there's a big middle ground of policies and ideas that overlap (or are ignored) by the two ideologies.

Personally I'm a fiscal conservitive and completely opposed to socialism so I would almost always vote Republican (if I live in the USofA). But some Democrats are center-left (as opposed to far left) so in the end it depends on whether I trust them or not. Presidents tend to be center-left or center-right -- 'The People" don't want an extreme President. That's a good thing.

Any clearer?
