i think the real problem here is that the idiot population of the US breeds FAR MORE than the intelligent side of the poopulation, and they've got us outnumbered.

sure there are "intelligent people" that voted for bush. . . no. . . no. . . . i don't actually believe that. i must have my own "self ritchous" definition of intelligence.....because if you can be so misguided. . . . there is something missing up there..... and here is my pre-emptive FUCK YOU, i AM in FACT MORE INTELLIGENT than the majority of the population. you know, that majority of voters that kept the bush in office. whoever said because the minortiy of people voted for kerry we should reconsider that we might be the stupid ones. . . . fuck you too, you're a moron. being greater in numbers does not make one part of the population more intelligent than the other. (see point number one)

and maybe people are starting to ask you abroad how -you- feel about the war in Iraq .. . BUT THEY STILL HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OUR LEADER -how is that good for our country??????. i've been to at least 3 or 4 foreign countries since bush has been in office . . . and let me tell you. . . it is NOT always rosy small talk when they find out you're american. i have seen it on the brink of physical contact. . .and im not talking about hugs and kisses.

someone mentioned new york before. ... lets consider this. . . of the population that felt terrorism was the most important issue...86% of them voted for bush. .. .BUT the state that was attacked and affected the most by terrorism voted AGAINST BUSH. who are the idiots here? thats right....bush lovers......

oh. . . and this ones's great. . . voters who felt the most important quality in a leader was intelligence. . . 91 % of them voted for John Kerry. i should just rest my case right there.

lets see what else we can find. . . . 55% of the population still believes that Iraq was part of the war on terror. . . and 81% of those people voted for bush. . which is not a big surprise. . . but is more proof that bush supporters are idiots.

and of people who believe that same sex couples deserve NO LEGAL RECOGNITION. . . 70% voted for bush..... these are people who do not understand what our country is all about. that we are a country based on religious FREEDOM (as oppose to putting religious beliefs into the fucking record of law). they do not understand that they are voting to restrict freedoms....and that THEY ARE BIGOTS and THAT IS JUST PLAIN STUPID IGNORANCE. im sorry. . someone has to point this all out. ..

and i haven't even gotten in to stem cell research and abortion where i could bring you even more points as to why bush is an idiot. . . . .

please feel free to flame me all you want. i understand perfectly that people are raised differently with different beliefs and both sides of the elections are just acting on things they truly and honestly believe. i just think it's unfortunate that so many people are raised in such dependent sheep hearding prejudice societies. and you can call me whatever you want for that comment too.

Funny. I've been to several countries during the last four years, with and without my family, speaking with everyone from taxi drivers to waitresses. They all knew our nationality. We spoke openly about America without the slighest bit of hesitation. We've always been friendly to people when we travel, and proud to be American. I just asked my kids if they felt any hostility or anger overseas and they said they didn't. I dunno, sometimes life gives you exactly what you expect to receive.
But our perspective is limited to Canada, France, Switzerland, Scotland, Wales, England, Italy, and Mexico. I wouldn't know firsthand about any other places. Oh, and Alaska. That place is like being on another planet. ;)

Unless you openly support the more moronic policies of Bush, it's doubtful you would encounter any hostility here in Europe. By and large we're willing to give Americans a fair crack of the whip. People will smile, be civil and respectful but make no mistake, unless you demonstrate otherwise, there will be a fair amount of rather unflattering assumptions made about your intellect and political sophistication. Harsh, I know, but that's the way it is over here right now.

That is the way it has been for a while. Since Reagan, at least.

Let's face it. The UK still thinks it is an empire, and will never get over the fact that the sun no longer rises and sets on their bounty. They "civilised" the world for their own good, and lost it. We happen to be one of those prized nations that they lost. We also happen to be the most powerful nation in the world, good or bad.
The resentment has nothing to do with how we act, what we say, what we do, or anything like that. That resentment is deeply engrained in your society. There is nothing we can do to fix it. But smiling and being polite does help. Demanding everything to be "like it is in America" does not.

That's been my fear, Roo. And frankly, I wouldn't blame you. I think that's why many of us are saying that we're ashamed to be American right now... or maybe a better way to say it before I get flamed to death...ashamed to be from America... because frankly, what America used to stand for and what it apparently stands for now are two different things.

I think there are a growing number of us that feel like expats in our own country. I do not understand the majority of this country (majority being 51%). I do not relate to them, they do not share my views, and we do not have the same vision for what this country is about. That's a terrible feeling.

Are you being serious? Do you think the entire of the UK feels deep down jealousy and resentment towards the US because of an event in the 18th century? That we've been taught to hate, blindly, America and all Americans because of this loss? Could it not be that we, or at least part of the population, find the policies of America hard to understand?

I think it's ridiculous to explain away the British disbelief of America's policies, and its prejudices towards the population who seem to support these policies, with a bitter resentment towards a combat whose memory isn't in the lifetime of any of our countrymen; especially towards a country who, both politically and socially, we've had strong ties with for more than 50 years.

Whatever floats ya boat, I suppose.

There was a lot of whinging and bleating in the Guardian prior to the election about the fact that here was a democratic process that directly affected UK residents in which we had no say. It was only upon reflection that you come to the conclusion that the same could be said for most of the people of solidly Democratic states. Democracy can be a bitch, I guess.

Still, look positive. Shrub now has to clear up his own economic shitpile, work out an exit strategy for Iraq before fabricating a reason to bomb Iran plus there's the fact that a conservative has a better chance of applying pressure to Israel.

I got to agree with this. All the polls of other countries say they like /kinda like Americans but don't like the policies of the American Gov't . But the % that dislike Americans is increasing. I think people understand the American people didn't vote to start the war in Iraq. Now however through a vote the American people by a slim majority have voted there support for the war and a President who started it. So if America starts a war with Iran in the next two years a slim majortiy of the American people support or you could say caused that war by voting in Bush. Now Bush didn't campain on going into another war but continuing the war on terror was a issue and how Bush has conducted that war includes starting wars with states with anything between strong to very weak links with terror or WMD.

I can't speak for the rest of the world, but we in America have turned into a culture of instant gratification -- "right here, right now." If things don't go our way, the bitching ensues, but rarely does it inspire activism, because we have become so complacent that we think simply voting will prompt change.

Just one more point and I should do some work. It does seem the most of the western world and America are going in different directions on social and economic issues. Canada gets involved in a lot of navel looking on this issue. Whereas we were peas in a pod 30 years ago there's a lot more differences now. I don't see the difference on the board or at the Summit or even in your media. Bush seems to represent this change in that he's born again and has this view that the American way is the only way.
