Different variety of stoke today.
Not a good upcoming 48 hours or so to be skiing in the Midwest…
Unless you’re in a lake effect machine.
speaking of which, has it been piling up at mt bohemia? hows the snows there lookin’ in the next few weeks?
inquirin’ minds wanna know.
Better than last year. From what I hear there have been some good days up there, though I haven’t made it there yet myself. Maybe next weekend.
Weather is all off and I dunno how to look at it anymore. Some lake effect now, but used to be a NW wind and cold weather was a lake effect sure thing and that just hasn’t been as true lately.

The uglymoney clan had a blast skiing with GSinister at PC earlier this week. One of those days that started cold and slow and ended sneaky awesome. I even borrowed my wife to our new midwest maggot friend so Sage and I could keep lapping some stuff up high.
Thanks for meeting up, ripping some sweet smooth turns in the steepz, and hanging out! That was really fun.

Face shots and pow laps, giving way to crud laps and seeking out the odd leftover face shot.
Good times.
Nice, where?
My son is headed to the lower 48. He is blowing me off to go ski Mount Bohemia. So how does a place that only has 585 acres of skiing have 4 trail maps to cover the area? How is that extreme backcountry? He thinks they are having an epic year.
^^^ The extreme backcountry is fun as hell!
Buddy and I hit it the day after a fifteen inch dump with plenty of leftovers. Great pitch, some stuff to jump off and NO crowds. Ski down to the road , wait about five minutes for the short bus that carries you back to the base for another ride up the chair. Rinse and repete
Yep, I had a great day skiing with you and your family in Park City! Thanks for letting me join in!
Today I made my official return to skiing after knee surgery last month.
I am 7 weeks to the day post surgery (torn meniscus). I have been hitting PT very hard.
Went to Christie Mountain for their $30 Friday lift ticket. They have a very easy Bunny Hill, perfectly smooth and a gentle downslope.
I was not sure what I could do exactly. I wasn’t even sure if I could walk from my car to the lodge with my gear. Could I put on my ski boots? That was a big question on my mind. Or could I even use the rope tow if I got jerked at an angle?
Made it up to the top of the Bunny Hill and I was nervous AF. What if my knee just buckled on my first turn? Fuck. My mind was racing. I pushed off and started my first turn. Huh, it worked. Now turn the other direction. That worked too. Just went real slow turning left and right. All good. Zero pain or discomfort. Grabbed the rope tow for another bunny hill lap. Did several laps with zero problems, so I got on the lift to the summit.
Took the easiest way down. Went very slow and in control. Kept perfect PSIA form. All good. No pain.
Did 7 laps off the summit, slow and in control, perfect form. Gaining confidence.
Went inside the lodge, not because of my knee, but because my hands were freezing. It was -15F and I was wearing work gloves due to the rope tow.
Ate some food and mentally reviewed what I had just done. I was absolutely stunned by my performance. No way did I think I was going to be able to ski today.
Rode the lift back up to the summit. Skied 2 more laps but I could tell my form was deteriorating and my knee muscles were quivering. Called it a day.
What an improvement in my mental health! I am absolutely glowing right now.
^^^^^^^fuck yeah dude! Welcome back!!!!!
Glad to hear you’re doing so well, Harry! I think February 5th is my next Wednesday at Trollhaugen.

Great to hear you’re back on snow!
Welcome back to skiing, Harry! Lemme know if/when you make it to the northern yoop.
Day Two back on skis.
Met up with AxeBiker at Trollhaugen. Took it very easy, no hot laps. Cruised slowly around the corduroy staying in control. Skied quite a bit more than the other day. No pain, no discomfort.
Non-skier Mrs. Axe was snowshoeing a nearby rail to trail with their doggie.
Rendezvoused back at the lodge to recap skiing and snowshoeing. Everyone agreed a good time was had by all.

I had to tell Harry to keep the slippery side down, as all he wanted to do was huck cliffs and hit all the secret smoke shacks at Troll…
Definitely a good day - the snow conditions were fantastic, crowds were okay considering the packed parking lot, and the company was better than usual - great to be back on the lifts with Harry again! Looking awesome for being 7 weeks post-op!
Awesome that you're back on the skis. The crowded lot at Troll was probably deceiving since they had a park comp yesterday - so half of it was probably parents standing around. Plus the D-team race kids were racing at Wild with us yesterday, so the hills were probably fairly quiet. I'll be out at Troll on Thursday for our final conference race - out there by 2 or so if anyone wants to make a couple turns (will be tied up from 3-5 or so, but fairly free outside of that). Looking forward to getting a little more of my ski days back from racing as the high school season is winding down.
*** 2025 MAG SUMMIT @LUTSEN ***
I took everyone’s PMs and calculated the dates that allowed the most number of maggots to attend. Unfortunately not everyone’s desired dates could be accommodated.
1) Friday, March 14th
2) Saturday, March 15th
Feel free to ski dates on either side of this. I will be driving up on Thursday afternoon, and driving back on Sunday.
Multiple lodging options are available, I booked a room at the Best Western in Grand Marais. I think the least expensive option is the American Inn in Tofte, but there may be others.
Hope to meet some new faces !
Went to Christie Mountain today and caught First Chair. Also caught 2nd thru 100th chairs as I was the only paying customer for the first 30-40 minutes. I love this place.
Still rehabbing my knee, skied twice as many runs as last week, steeper terrain, plus moving a lot faster.
That worked until it didn’t. On what would become my final run of the day, I had difficulty unloading the chair, and then trying to ski. That one leg just quit working. Caught me by surprise how suddenly that happened. No pain, but I could not control what was going on with my knee, so I slowly made my way down to the lodge.
Overall satisfied with my skiing today. I learned the limits of my current strength.

Hit lutsen for the first time ever yesterday, lucked into a pretty nifty little powder day.
Good times!
I have great memories of Lutsen growing up. I especially recall making my first "parallel" turns there one day as a little kid. The feeling I had when that lightbulb clicked on has never really left me.
Later a friend's family bought a condo at Chateau Laveau. When we were in high school we used to go up there on our own for weekends. Talk about a party, holy shit.
I miss Lutsen - need to get back up there, but don't think I'll be around for the midwest summit. First time up there as a bean-pole of a 6 or 7 year old, I got absolutely hurled off halfway up the old poma they had going up Mystery. I was apparently nowhere near heavy enough to keep that thing on the ground and spent half the ride getting slingshotted into the air over every bump in the track until it ditched me.
I’ll be skiing in CO/UT those dates, so won’t be making that summit.
Just good to hear you are back on the horse.
But what he’s doing to the poor horse is pretty horrific…
I don’t feel bad anymore for pussing out on GSinister the other day, right after I texted him his boss called and made him go in to work on his day off.
Today I went to Christie Mountain for $30 Friday. My fifth day back on skis. Skied very strong, got my carve on. Even did multiple laps on what they claim are black diamonds. Easily skied twice as many runs, but just like last week, when I am done it happens suddenly. All of a sudden I just have no strength and my knee does not respond. That’s when it’s time to quit.
I am convinced that I am going to come out of this a better skier. The PT chicks have me on a solid fitness plan that addresses things I have long struggled with, balance, core strength, hips, flexibility. It has been a good experience and I look forward to the future.
hey, Harry - Thank you for this post ; my words fail to express how happy I am for You - to 'be getting back after it ! ' I hope for you to get a loop out-west, and if your season is spent cruising the midwest with your crew, I Am happy for you and I will be with you in-spirit ! !! Go! get 'em, my friend ! tjQuote:

It’s crazy how little snow we have received around the metro this season. This made Sat’s [emoji640]” at Welch feel much deeper than it was (# like I won the lottery). No substitute for fresh snow.
Harry- should we do a roll call for Lutsen summit?

I'm in for senior's day at Trollhaugen on Wednesday. I should have a couple of nonmag people with me as well. Anybody else?
