Several Republican congressmen, are openly accused Peter Hegseth’s deputy, Elbridge Colby, of deliberately sabotaging U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

So Trump stops weapons to make Putin happy, then announces "more weapons" which was really just uncancelling what he cancelled as if he was helping Ukraine, and all he has actually done is piss off the MAGAtards who ascribe to the Russian info-ops saying "Ukraine bad"
I think it is just his alzheimer's. Putin, in his old memories, is someone on his side, a friend for reasons we don't completely understand.
You can snap him out of this mindset briefly, which seems to have happened here again, but he will soon (or likely already has) forget the new information and revert to Putin good, halt shipments to Ukraine.
Short term memory is the first to go.

Maybe Ive watched too many movies about the mob and rubbed elbows with too many low level mobsters. Trump is running his secret and illegal organization with a tried and true method. Way back at the beginning Russia was said to be binge watching the Sopranos. The Don tells Capo what the end goal is and the Capo gets it done the best he can.
The question is not so much whether Trump was directly involved but instead whether this is why Hegseth was appointed to the job in first place. Whether Hegseth was meant to be the hatchet man while at the same time giving Trump deniability. After all, Hegseth has a history of pro-Russian anti-Ukraine sentiment going back well before joining the current administration:

The larger issue, even more so than weapons deliveries, is the fact Russia now believes it has a greenlight to bomb Ukraine indiscriminately. We'll have our answer depending on whether team Trump pushes back on what is approaching 1,000 *nightly* Russian bombing/drone/missile attacks. Trump talks sanctions in response, but obviously action is what matters

When it comes to Ukraine though, we still don't know. Another possibility is that Trump just likes Putin whereas policy WRT Hegseth etc. is JD Vance's doing. I say that because Trump is waking to the fact that Putin is playing him. That's obvious to most people but unlike JD's cohort of culture warriors, Trump himself hasn't really joined the "Russia will save the West" chorus
