Soft Snow Gymkhana - The Heritage Lab FR110

I’ve skied the 187 Meridians and have a pair of 186 FR110s that I’ll be mounting up soon—happy to report back.

I really liked the Meridians in certain conditions (corn and chalk) but also found them to not be very damp. In comparison, the FR110s are heavier and less stiff, so both elements should make them damper, plus I know there are some differences in construction.

The FR110s also have more taper—I sometimes struggled with the Meridians in 3D snow as the full sidecut would engage, and I didn’t think they floated all that well for their width.

I do expect that the FR110s won’t quite match the edge hold of the Meridians when really carving hard, but that’s not how I want to ski a reverse camber ski.

Debating between a 194 and 187 R110. Anyone who has skied both have any thoughts?

Only skied the 187 recently so my opinion may be moot. I tossed around 194 vs 187 when buying, I gravitate to longer skis and also own the 192 FL105. MO said 187 will be fine. He was right. No issues with it this last sunday mobbing around in 12+”’s of pow/chopped pow and soft bumps. Maybe I would want the long ones if I skied Big Sky, don’t know.

One more feedback point on the length thing... I'd say it mostly depends on your quiver and desired use.

If you are looking for "playful charger" don't be afraid to size up - they will be super smooth and composed, but very maneuverable and responsive too.

If you are looking for "change of pace" from bigger skis in the fleet, don't be afraid to size down - they will be quite supportive and composed, engage turns like normal daily drivers, but fully bring video game skiing to life.

Realistically, the same logic applies to the FR vs R conversation. The FR is next-level video game skiing. Like VR goggles and a hit of acid.

As always, happy to talk through individual use cases, will 100% stand behind my recs, so if we get it wrong, there is always a fair and equitable solution that will make it right.

I’m 6’3, 200 on the fr110, 186. I’m happy with the length. It really is the ultimate video game ski, which is my favorite type of skiing. When things get open I feel myself wanting for a little more length, but I don’t think I’d trade it for the ultimate slashy, pop off anything in sight feeling

Well said! If I am reading your comment right, you COULD ski the longer version but don't NEED it for the ride you are after. Makes a ton of sense. Thanks and glad you are digging them so far

Exactly. If my home mountain was more charger friendly, I might opt for the longer length but it’s not and I’m happy with the length.

Yeah, love it. Has totally won the mid fat slot, selling/sold other 3 somewhat similar skis and eyeing a skinny HL ski

On the FR length debate, I'm in 100% agreement with the bigger dudes choosing to go for the medium length, when there are other long skis in the quiver.

For just going nuts out fast, there are other skis in my quiver, the FR110 just works, both going slow and a bit more frantic while thriving in the woods. Telekinesis is the name of the game.

Skied some r110 today for one lap, great ski, didn’t do anything too remarkable but the conditions were funky and probably hard to judge. Sorta reminds me of the flat camber Black Crows Corvus mixed with a playful wide park ski. I’ve never been a huge fan on flat/zero camber on more generalist skis and this sorta confirmed that for me, I just don’t like the feeling on hard snow. Never had an issue but I like the dampening that some camber provides.

In pow (10” dense over a variety of crusts) they were quiet, composed, and quick. Felt pretty centered (which is admittedly not my jam) but never felt the tail hang up or the ski do anything weird. 186 felt a tad short in the tip for my skiing style if I were to own a pair.

I feel like I might like the 194 FR as it would probably up the “play” factor further plus more tip to lean on.

Cool ski Marshal, glad there’s an option for the jibbers.

Now that R110s are getting on snow, any new thoughts on mount point? Anybody trying them mounted back a cm or two?

Two days until we go beyond the edge. Can’t wait!!

I look at the r110 and fr110 not as a charger ski where I want a bunch of tip in front of me but instead a chance not to be all bent over, fuck around, hit all the features, and recapture a little of the magic of youth.

They do play really well and will charge as well. Such a fun ski. I’m on the 187R110. They give up a tiny bit on really firm over a RCR type ski but win out if its soft. Not sure I would dig the FR personally on anything firm. I wanted a do all soft snow finder video game ski, it does that super well. Skis funky crusty snow likes its nothing. So fun!

I'm totally a skull guy because 80s skater kid so I love the R105 and HB122 graphics, but this is my favorite of the HL topsheets by far. And I'm pretty sure you're winning the color combo game. I would like to see a bright blue binding on there, I think that would look super trick. Until then, the purple sends.

Agreed! My office gets really odd lighting. I went -7.75 for ease of measurement from tail lol. First time mounting my own fucking skis.

I had 120ST with the R110 topsheets.

Put on yellow tint goggles and look at the top sheet. They look “3d”… pretty cool.

Toss up between purple and metallic blue.

When measuring from the tail, what's the standard-- straight tape or measured along material? I know it's only a few mm's at that point, but...

Also, I'm in a 25 Lange RS 130, not super jibby, more of an on/off drifty/GS arcing fool. My plan is go with MO's recommended mount point but any second thoughts for me on my 187 R110? FKS155 for the first time after 45 years on salomon... because pivot-curious. Am I over-thinking any change in ramp angle? I also have an SBX15 but thinking that would better serve an RC85.

I've never veered from manufacturer's recommended, but have owned demo bindings and immediately recognize 1cm forward is no-bueno... too turny... would only move the binding forward on firm snow in flat light. And that's not this ski's purpose.

I always freak out when mounting new skis because I'm an overly sensitive teenage girl when it comes to subtle nuances in boots, feel, even poles, wax, and bevels.

Fks155s should have the same drop as salomons if you dont mount with the lifters. (5mm drop)

I think as a renegade lover you should go -7.5, that’s where I’m at and that is on the proto with less tail rise(also 25.5). You’re going to love them.
