Extended Stay Meth-America

Ha Ha. A similiar thing happened to us in Ogden last year. Super 8, I think it was. They had DIY waffles mmmm waffles. Anyway, early in the morning we hear a commotion in the hallway, some banging on the walls, very loud voices. I get up and look out the peep hole, couldn't see anything. Open the door and a cop comes from my right and aggressively tells me to get back in my room. I did. They popped somebody, but went the other way as they didn't walk in front of the peep hole. Scary shit. Luckily no gunshots. Asked the lady at the counter in morning what went down and she said she couldn't talk about it. Did I mention the waffles?

As far as healthcare...well, one could tie in to the larger equation by saying that the lack of a national healthcare plan is yet another symptom of a flawed system of govt. If the govt. really wanted to take care of it's citizens this would seem to be the first place it would start. Instead, corporate America holds the reigns to people's health. One more example of the minority controlling the majority. Would a national healthcare paln reduce gun violence and thus the need for police forces the likes of which we endure today? Let's look around the world for other examples. Canada has it and seems a much less violent society, what about the socialist medicine in the northeren european nations? I don't know.

I stayed at an extended stay once. They charged my card daily. It maxed and they locked my room. I called the CC company and they said they just resset the card and it could be charged. Went back to the extended stay and the person at the desk refused to charge my card, refused to call the manager, refused to unlock the room. I had to stay somewhere else! The next day I had it out for the manager and he refused to unlock the room until I had paid for the previous day AND THE DAY I WAS LOCKED OUT BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO TAKE MY MONEY! If I wasn't in such a hurry I would have called the cops on them but I had a plane to catch.

They are crooked bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then we both lose. Snippets of scattered barbs and retorts posted here can be a double edged sword. Those that are unwilling to follow the dialouge through to it's natural end rush off without the whole picture. I choose to engage wholeheartedly in the discourse, ingiting, inciting and forcing provactive discussion. To me that's interesting and healthy. For some it might be too much but that's the risk. all I have to say is that when somebody (woodsy) goes on a "defending Utah" crusade talking about how normal it is here I'm going to think of this.

there are a lot of wound up religious asshole cops in utah, their religious fervor helps to justify treating anyone who is not from here and part of their church like shit. This is the truth, no matter what any marketing/church people tell you when you come here you'd best hope to not have to deal with the police unless you are in Rose Park or somewhere like it where they've got more important things to worry about than you...and in that case you've got bigger problems (hanging around in the ghetto) than the cops anyway.

So how long have you lived here again? It's funny, i've lived in UT since '93 and have never had problems with 'the man'. My views are vastly different than the average utahn and yet i've never felt oppressed.

It always amazes me that people who spend a season or a vacation here can feel so violated and held back by 'those damn mormons'.

Do you think that just maybe people find exactly what they are looking for and get just what they expect?

i too have not read this whole thread but everytime i drove through utah i couldn't wait to get the f... out of it. unless you're a clean-cut looking person, its a guarantee that you're gonna get the unwelcome vibe that exists outside of skitown utah.

I'll say this: I can do the job of protecting myself better than a cop can do the job of protecting me....the system just needs to let me. If I'm at home with an AK47 I'm in a hell of a lot better shape then when my tweaker neighbors decided to attack me and all I have is a phone and I'm hoping the cops show up before they overwhelm me (yes, this happened). I feel like I have a good background to compare because there was essentially no police presence both where I lived in Big Bay MI and in Valle Escondido NM, you armed yourself, assumed everyone else did too, and there were literally zero problems. Here, only the badguys are armed, and you're just completely dependent on cops to come to the rescue. If you arm yourself you're going to have to be ready to use force, if you use force here you're going to prison. It's just bullshit. It's bullshit, all of it, and I think I'd be better off being given the legitimate freedom to defend my own life and property instead of having to depend on a bunch of high-school dropout wannabe tough guys who get off on jerking people around.

as for the need for these guys, trust me, I know where the tweakers are in my neighborhood, I tell every cop who ever comes around, hardly anything ever gets done, and we end up living with it because we, the law abiding, would be charged with a crime if we went over there and ran them off with force, which we could do if given the chance. I've been spoon feeding the detectives evidence for almost a year, watching the same guy deal meth down the street for almost a year, and instead of using any of it they're breaking down innocent people's doors in Sandy. it's a fucking bad system administered by dumbfucks (these cops who patrol my neighborhood are, with a few exceptions, largely incapable of abstract thought...they're cops because they get off on hassling people)

this all gets me pretty irritated. sorry. I'll shut up now.

I was pulled over 6 times in my first 5 months here, equalling my previous total from age 16 to age 27. I had NM plates, think that had anything to do with it? Nah...couldn't be.

6 months of mentioning the meth dealer down the street to every cop I saw got no response. bringing it up with our CAT (community action team) detective got nothing.

wrote a letter to the morman church ward essentially saying, nobody wants a meth dealer, lets get rid of this guy...and in a week we had this.

don't even try to say utah is just like anywhere else because that's just a bald faced lie.

I've lived in michigan, new mexico, colorado, oregon, and travelled all over the lower 48 and this is the first place I've been where to get a dealer arrested you don't call the police, you don't call the DA's office, you call the fucking church.

ignorance...please, these are things that happened to me, right here in my neighborhood, my recollection of what happened and how is not ignorance.

edit: I'm going to actually stop now. I just get so_goddamned_irritated with the church state here it drives me insane. It's such a nice place to live besides that...

it's not all bad and it's not all good.

I can't stand when people decide that because it's pretty here and there's nice mountains that that negates the fact that Utah is a church state. If one aspect of life is good, then the rest must be too...that's really narrow thinking IMO

I was angry & didn't consider the ramifications of posting about my experiences.I knew that my post would offend some that live here, that is mine to deal with. A friend I went to highschool with was a cop .Another friend has applied to the ATF as well as several other agencies.I'm not automatically anti-cop.

I was supremely pissed off at the way things went down.I'm here on a ski trip,not buying crack in the hood.I wasn't asked to evacuate.I had loaded weapons pointed at me,& was either asked questions or briefly interrogated,depending on your political views.I don't know who went through my room;dogs or cops or DEA & possibly firemen went through my room & things.I'm an American whether or not other things in life have freaked people out ;I don't live in a country where the "Little People" live in fear,or am I mistaken? Something about the boy who cried wolf comes to mind.Several of my friends that have lived here for well over a decade think that the cops like this sort of thing,not dread it.When I talked with the MOD at ESA,she said she could guarentee that it wouldn't happen again,because she would deny the agencies access.I laughed & I told her that the smell still remained,how could she tell me that she could control several different agencies & that some other fearful traveller wouldn't have freaked out the next night over the same thing.

you are right freshie i wasnt there and this was an experience you shared through your eyes. i am not from utah and have no clue what their departments work like.

my experience is that we wouldnt be as harsh as you described solely on a tip alone. they would need much more information, that you are not privy too in your short time with them, to act as aggressively as they did. im sure there was a lengthy investigation that led them to that hotel. you only saw the stage act without seeing behind the scenes. i guarantee, whatever they did do was in their own safety first, your safety, and believe it or not the safety of the dick running the lab.

You were not there either. I myself have seen several instances where cops behaved very abusively towards people for no good reason. It is said that bad apples ruin the reputation of good cops, but given the number of abusive police officers out there it would certainley not be a surprise if the cops behaved in a manner in which they should not have. Because the victims were poor, disenfranchised blacks and latinos in the inner city... people the majority are conditioned to believe are guilty before proven innocent, it was seen as a smart move and praised. Al Sharpton and company were vilified in the press for taking to the streets to protest police brutality. Of course the excessive force was justified! Look at those criminals and the slums they live in! Chants of "No justice... No peace" struck fear in the hearts of 'white flight' suburbanites who called for stiffer penalties for drug offenses and tougher policing.

Many of these things formerly seen as overreaching policing have become standard operating procedure in precincts around the country. Now the middle and upper class has the meth boogeyman in their midst and the meth head tweaker can blend in with polite society, the only giveaway being their rotten teeth and desperate demeanor. Now you get roused out of your sleep for an illegal search, your cars are broken into in what you thought were good neighborhoods in the burbs! The cops rough you up... pull you over because you 'look suspicious'... point loaded guns at ya?

Now you feel violated? Don't blame the cops, this behavior was praised by the majority when there was no chance the gun would be pointed at them.
