By the way, that was awesome. The writeup is great.

H.
That was sweet, the words and the pictures, looking forward to the A photos.

I guess insanity must run in the family ;)
Nice huck and excellent writeup.
You went Huuuuuuge on that one.
Keep your wits about you and know when to stop chasing the adrenaline dragon.
A ski widow and orphan is a real bummer.
Think how stoked you will be to teach those little ones to rip (and huck).
Stick around for that run.
caw!!!caw!!!caw!!!!!!!
[QUOTE=meatdrink9]At what point can you no longer be trusted with your own life? At what point do you step back and quit looking for your limit? Do you then just sit aside, watching life rather than partaking? But once you're responsible for others does it make you a bad person to take these risks? But does that mean you can no longer really live life to the fullest? Will you ever know what you're capable of? The things that used to scare you no longer give you the rush they once did. You pushed through those things then, you lived, you're fine and now you're looking to the next step...that's just normal right? I mean, years ago the stuff you were doing had people very concerned and maybe even had yourself concerned. Then you go and hit those same airs twice this week and don't really even twitch. And then today comes. You can't stop shaking. You wonder why on earth you're even considering this? How did you get this idea? Why did you need to do it? Why can't you just walk away? "
If you truly believe that you cannot "partake" in any other way than risking your life and limb to stomp airs, and drop cliffs that:
a) Very few people in the world will even know about, and...
b) even fewer people will really care about,
Then you're probably beyond help as it is.
Oh, and spare me the rap that you only go bigger and bigger for "yourself" or personal satisfaction. If that were the case, you wouldn't be worried about a photographer, and you wouldn't be yammering about it here.
It was a sick and ballsy huck though, can't deny.
Good luck chief.
Holy shit!! That thing was ginormous. Sounds like the meats team made it as safe as possible for it to happen.
As bizarre a relationship as it may seem to most, having your dad and brother help spot and shoot huge airs, I can see a definite advantage in that there is absolutely, unequivocal, 100% trust that no one is going to try and push someone just to get a photo or whatever. Not sure I phrased that very well, but I think you know what I mean.
Should I start popping kernels now? Or will that ^ be ignored?Quote:

Unbeleivable the talent that's here, skiing and otherwise.
Yeah, but how's your snow-cat towing steeze?
Sick and ashamed and happy (and ain't no family like the meat family),

a) I don't care if anyone will ever know about it. That's not what it's about. I will know about it.Quote:

The two "negative" things you've brought up about the air is the fact that people won't "know or care about it". I'm sure you'll never understand. Don't you ever wonder what you're capable of? About what's possible? Screw everybody else. This is an internal thing. Aren't there any lines or challenges out there in life that you want to take head-on. Not becuase people will be watching, but for nothing more than knowing you rose to meet the challenge. That's the reward. Other skiers that have battled similar demons seem to have grasped this pretty well.
I always post my best days here. When things like this are running through your head it always helps to get them on paper. Might as well share them. And if you missed it. I didn't call in any other shooters (general practice for most big airs). I didn't even bother to bring my video camera. I went skiing with my family and our focus was on safety and the project not how to maximize fame, but not recording it in some sense would just be stupid. We take photos almost every day we ski.
I think what x-dog was trying to say is that there are other ways to partake in life then just airing bigger and bigger cliffs, such as discussing what it means to partake in life to an internet message board on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Just saw that pic of the jump, was the vertical cleared equal to the horizontal? That looks bigger than 30 feet. :)
Spent the last 10 minutes being pumped up by this thread. Way to go MD9. The pictures of you scoping the jump leaves me wanting more. Good luck getting the pictures published GT I would guess some magazine would love to have them. Let us know if, when and where they get published. One final comment I would love to use the scoping picture for my wall paper.
Holy Geez. I didn't know you hit this when I saw you last night. Makes me feel like a small child. Nicely done.
MD9 you have a clue. Nice verbage. Nice air
Xdog you don't
GT can't wait to take pics of my kid pushing his personal envelope.
I like this thread. Might need to get some popcorn and a beer
Well done MD9. If I had seen these photos before last night's get-together, I definitely would have touched you more.
Is that cliff the same one seen in a movie with someone (Pierre?) skiing down the rocks, then eating shit once he hit snow?

I'll attach another scoping pic that shows more of the full length shot from a distance with a longer lens the day before. I drew some guides from the lip to the landing to try and count body lengths. If you look at the pic with the first/last frame and this pic you can see I land just out of frame to the right of this new photo, but at the level of the traverse at the very bottom of the photo.

So 22 body lengths equals 124 feet approximately? That's insane.
You have just proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have no place in the brotherhood of maggotdom. Please seek your digital masturbation elsewhere.Quote:

I think that the body length factor measurement (from pictures) only works for near vertical slopes at a netural camera angle. So I'm guessing that 120+ feet may be overestimating the huck a bit. Although if it really was a 120 foot huck, well, I guess we'll see MD9 in the movies pretty soon.Quote:

If i remember correctly, its the rock face about a hundred yards down from the top of the MIddle bowl Gondola, skier left side.Quote:

Just caught up reading this thread. Wow.
Yowsa. Great job of putting your feelings on paper, MD. That's got to be an unbelievable rush!
GT!!! Less than a week, mang! I'm getting psyched! :D
[QUOTE=Xdog]That's the beauty of it all, that very few people in the world will know or care, except for the people who really care and enjoy Jared for who he is and what he does!Quote:

Onevery important aspect you may have overlooked in this thread is that it was a family oriented goal, Mike and Mike Jr. helping J overcome this monster of a cliff. It was not, i repeat was not J dropping for the camera! If that were the case, he would have ignored the patrollers the day before and dropped it then..maybe?
Go to basin and see the cliff for yourself. It 'haunted' me for 4 years before i felt I could push the envelope and drop it. I'm glad to know otehrs like J who have, because its not one that's easy to drop.
Don't mean to bead a dead horse with a stick but, as you did, give the kid some props! Way to go Allen family.
Awesome! Great thread...
whoa, shit.
nice job, glad you're ok.
Fortunately, I never applied, so the rejection doesn't come as a disappointment:confused:Quote:

What happens when he shorts the next one? Then instead of teaching the adorable little daughter how to make powder turns, she instead gets to feed his crippled ass applesauce from a rubber spoon. Schweet!
Anyway, just an opposing view from the blowjobs everyone else seems to be giving.
Mo' betta', run down the street and grab a bucket of extra crispy.Quote:

Damn, that's BIG.
Glad to hear everything turned out ok.
Sick, MD. And I hate the term sick, but that's all I've got right now, I guess it's apt.
Hate to do it here, but that assfuck from LI better stay in Nassau County--he'll get dropped if he tries to play that shit anywhere where people aren't brain dead. But we all know he's too much of a pussy to come out from behind his keyboard, so it's a non-issue.
Glad you were able to take my advice J.
Damn nice job, I really wish I were there to see it go down. (not the preparation part with the jihad and all that, just the jump)
MD9. You are the man. I'm so proud you hit that shit proper.
FUCK YOU, you racist, can't-ski-a-lick, stoke killing, asshole.Quote:

You've already given me multiple reasons to laugh watching you stumble down groomers. Don't stop being my entertainment.
What's the matter, got small dick syndrome? You can't understand why anyone would strive for excellence when the world isn't watching? Sack up loser! Gather the family around, stand up and jump off the couch since you need an audience to go big.
You can't ski, you can't relate to what the rest of us are doing out there, and you don't have the passion for spreading anything but hate. WTF are you even here? Oh yeah, to entertain us with your thread cunting and stupidity.
this xdog asshat is pissing me off. I think all maggots everywhere would agree that racism, particulary racism targeting any one on this board - will not be tolerated.
xdog - you need to tighten you scene man, and apoligize to all of us for bringing your low life shit into our house- or you will no longer have a home here.

If'n y'all wouldn't mind a totally stupid question, where did this take place?
Watching bklyntrayc kick xdog's ass would be fine entertainment.
