+1. If it's a softshell half-bib, just tell me where to send the money.
Any word on if and when another round of the zero g pro tour forward lean mod will happen?
New/updated pack details are up https://raideresearch.com/collections/snow-shop-all
Curious about this skimo style carry, I tried to rig something up on my pack (last year's model) but it was too floppy.

Very strange, the new designs look tailored for someone to lose all their avy gear expeditiously.
Why can't manufacturers keep it simple? Noone needs this.
Founder of Raide here. We definitely thought through this in the design. We used the same zippers last year and didn’t have a single one fail. The zippers also don’t have much tension across them so we’re confident you won’t lose your gear.
We got a lot of feedback asking for improvements on avalanche tool access and I’m extremely excited about the ability to access the probe easier stow study. It’s cool to do a quick pit and not even have to put your pack down!
Is this summary of Changes from last year for the LF40L close?
* Different Avy Tool Pocket Setup
* Different Ski Carry
* Different Back panel
* Updated Hip Pockets
You got most of the bigger items. A few things the list is missing:
- More durable material
- All the buckles are updated
- Velcro closure on the top of the diagonal ski carry
- The top access zipper
- Top of the frame comes down .5” on the 40L and 1” on the 30L
- Independent ice tool carry

Any chance 1.0 folks can order up some buckles to swap things out? The waist buckle was my biggest issue and I would love to change it up.
The 30 looks pretty sweet…
Concierge, when are the pants going to show up?
Is taking your bag off to dig a pit really that huge of an inconvenience to warrant this?
To warrant what? In my opinion it’s not some sort of large trade off only one zipper was added and one was moved. Do you think it’s too much complexity? Your avy tools are part of the essential gear needed for a ski tour. We made everything else super accessible in v1 with back panel access and the stash pocket except your avy tools were buried behind the helmet carry, so I think it’s a natural evolution to make them as accessible as other gear. There’s are also 2 additional pros that having all the tools separate makes them take up less unused space of the pack (same reason why HMG did it on the crux 40) and it brings the tools closer to your center of mass for skiing.
wilcox510 , pants are going to launch in a week and a half.

Kudos Concierge! GREAT updates, I'm genuinely psyched on every single modification and innovation. The top zipper is TBD for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person.
Were there any changes to sizing for SM and MD or just the addition of the Tall?
Any shoulder strap add-on pockets planned for soft flask water bottle or phone?
Psyched you are excited about it. Backpanel sizing (bottom of pack to top of back panel opening) is exactly the same as last year, but the area above the shoulder straps got slightly smaller. Last year it was 3" on the 40L, this year it is 2.5" on the 40L and 2" on the 30L. The tall is 2" taller than the M/L was last year.
No plans to integrate pockets directly into the shoulder strap. There is a 15mm webbing strap across the shoulder strap that makes it easy to put a water bottle on. I'm not a huge fan of bulk on shoulder straps. I am going to work on a Raide specific water bottle attachment, but it isn't in the works yet.
I was so, so skeptical on the top zipper. After using the pack I couldn't go back to another prototype that didn't have it. I went on a hut trip and didn't have a 40L with the top zipper so I crammed all my stuff into a 30L because it had the top zip and got my sledding friends to bring the beers up for me.
I appreciate the addition of an ‘active’ avalanche back with the safeback system. Personally i’m not totally sold on it yet but i’m curious to see what research comes out about it. Do you have any plans to make a traditional airbag? I think a true lightweight airbag would do pretty well on the market given most of the current options go for heavier materials and “full featured” builds instead of light weight

I'm really excited about doing an airbag pack eventually. Being based in CO, I've wanted to use an airbag pack for awhile, but haven't liked a single one enough to buy one. The issue is, I don't want to ever release product unless I truly believe its the best on the market. Right now the best avalanche airbag tech is Litric and we cannot license it (I've tried), so that leaves us to use another subpar system, which I don't want to do or develop our own, which we currently do not have the resources to do. Hopefully one of those things changes in the next few years!
Concierge, can you go into a little more detail about the update made to the diagonal ski carry system on the new packs?
Yea, it essentially has 3 positions you can girth hitch the bottom loop to. The first 2 are just the bottom front corners of the pack so you can think about it as the same as the pack last year you just get to choose the diagonal ski carry direction. The reason you might want to do this is if you are traversing a steep slope and your tails are facing the slope they can drag and knock you off balance. The top strap also can switch between sides to match the side you choose and there is a stash pocket on each side. Each pocket also has a velcro closure this year because some people did have issues with the strap occasionally slipping out.
The third position is for skimo carry where the bottom attachment loop is on the wearers left side of the pack. This makes it so it is way easier to pass your tails through without taking your pack off. Once your tails are through you can reach back and pull the top strap around the top of the skis and then clip it to the shoulder strap. I am proud of how minimalist the whole system is while being super effective. If you open the "ski carry" dropdown or watch the walkthrough video you can see it.
All the attachment points are double wrapped and bar tacked into the seam so they are super durable.
New tall size is awesome, just nabbed a 30 and a 40.
Somewhat sad to see the metal buckle go as I got really used to it last year, but makes sense with the switch as it was something a lot of people complained about.
I’m not super stoked on the new avi pocket but I’ll get used to it I’m sure.
How durable is the new back insert? Is it going to crack if I sit on the pack?
Also putting in another request for the white packs with black straps and hip belts lol.
Thanks for the support! Noted on the white pack with black straps/hip belt. I have contorted the back panel insert many times over and have not gotten any cracks to develop. I am sure hypothetically you could sit on a crazy sharp rock and crack it but my findings have been its quite durable otherwise I wouldn't have used it. I think you'll be hyped on the avi tools access, it is super different than everything out there, but it works really well, and if you don't care about the access it's at least super space efficient and skis better.
Interesting updates! I wish you’d had the tall past year. I bought a M/L and gave it to my daughter, too short for me.
The easy grab probe might be a real nice feature for glacier travel, probing for crevasses.
If anyone is upgrading and wants to sell their old 40 hit me up
Does the 40L have the new top zipper access or is that only on the 30L? After spending the night oogling I gotta say really cool updates and offerings. I guess I've gotta keep fingers crossed supplies last
One thing I was trying to convey on the site was just how space efficient the Safeback system is. I would guess the 40L Arc airbag pack is more similar in usable space to our 30L and the the wight difference is larger and I think the SB 40L is nice because there aren't a lot of airbag packs (if any?) that can flex to overnights.
That is a reason we made it!
Yes, the 40L has it as well. It actually saves a lot more time on the 40L since the 40L has the cinch + roll at the top. Now you can use that space in between the cinch + roll while still having access to the top of the bag.
The side panels and bottom are more durable. They have the same outer fabric, but the interior waterproof film is now sandwiched between the outer material and a very thin layer of polyester ripstop. I did this for 2 reasons 1) we did have some people wear through the side panels, it was only a 3-4ish people, but I would like there to be no material failures in the first year of using the pack 2) I didn't want the avy tools to wear through the film over a 10 year product lifecycle.
Have you handled/packed the new Arc bag? It can swallow everything my Descentionist 40L can (basically a big 40L tube). Significantly more than 40L Scott E1 I currently use. I agree that most airbags feel very small volume vs stated; the new Arc is the first one that feels maybe just 2-3L short of stated volume.

I haven't yet, but I am excited to. I wasn't trying to knock it, I think they did a great job and I'm glad to hear the 40L has space that should make it really compelling to the guide crowd as well. I measure all of our pack volumes myself at the factory. You pour tiny balls in the pack and then dump them into a container with volume markings so I think I have become decent at sussing out pack volumes and the last version of the descentionist 40L is closer to 30L pack that they maybe justified calling a 40L by measuring with the rolltop fully expanded. It is a nice clean pack though.
Oh, I'm on the OG version of the descentionist 40L which feels about honest. Pretty much pulled out from one and into the other. Context I was handling it was among a bunch of bc professionals who needed more volume than their current bags.
The Arc bag is worth a buy so you can figure out how to make an even better Raide version.
Can you confirm that the pack straps are set narrower on the updated versions (mentioned on pg 5 of this thread)?
I wasn't considering a Raide pack this season due to the aforementioned fit issues (for me) on the 1st gen LF40 and lack of an airbag option, but am reconsidering given the Safeback integration.
Updates look great. In the updated LF40, is the avy tool compartment still open to the main compartment in the same way as V1? Have to admit, it kind of drove me crazy, would love to see a completely separate avy tool compartment. . Just made it a little more cumbersome IMO to use the main compartment, had to sometimes push that avy tool divider out of the way.
The tool pockets are open at the top, but the opening in the middle of the divider for the shovel throat is no longer there and it’s completely closed. That was one of the drivers for the new avalanche carry where I solved the problem of increasing the space efficiency of the avy tools by putting them on separate panels instead of the hole in the avy tools divider.
Really like the blade sitting flat vs conventional designs that put the probe and handle "under" the blade, which creates meaningful dead air space and the blade bows the back of the pack out. The new design should be more sleek and should pack better as you can benefit for the brade's curve to fit main compartment equipment against.
Liking having the zippers for burial tools away from the main compartment zippers. Certainly will have to get used to the access point, but that is solved with a couple reps before pow season arrives for muscle memory training.
Nice out of the box thinking, Concierge.
