It's been my experience buying electronics, appliances, skis, cars, etc that 8/10 sales people have no idea what the hell they are talking about. They just rely on customers being to dumb to notice.
What the heck happened back there with rimjob and do overr? Who are they and why do they want to fight?
I need to pay more attention, I guess. Or less.
It sounds like the good guy owner has delegated a lot of the day to day management of the shop and the idiots are now running the asylum. Maybe this serves as a wakeup call for them and they get better but who cares in the end? Sounds like you have other good options so fuck em.
If I owned that shop and read this, I'd be raising bloody hell in there today and a copy of this thread would be posted in the staff room (minus the juvenile gangster death circle jerk posts). I could see this thread costing this dude tens of thousands of dollars in sales this year alone. The maggots have a long memory.
adimmen,
Shocked that you got treated that way!! But only shocked cause I have never set foot in the place, and now... I never will.
If I went to a shop to pick up a special order item, and could see it behind the counter... yet the sales guy was trying to tell me it wasnt there. I would have immeadiatly said.. "I am done talking to you, go get your manager"
I think you acted with restraint given the circumstances. The brick and mortar retail establishments days are numbered, the only ones that will be left standing are the ones that offer something that you cant get online.. and that is GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!
I suggest that anyone reading this thread go into Neptune to try on Ski Boots in order to determine proper shell size, and then go buy your boots else where!!
If Gary Neptune is reading this, he ought to realize how big his employee screwed up, call you personally and issue you a sincere apology for the completly unacceptable way in which you were treated. Then he should fire said employee and implement a customer service training program for the remaining ones.
Here in Summit Co I have always been treated well by Wilderness Sports and Mountain Outfitters.
uncle crud is the head of the p.r. department for the City of Missoula.

Funny thing is, we don't, really. Bent Gate is 20 miles away; REI is at the moment the only other game in town (or Boulder Ski Deals/Christy's for resort oriented stuff). If Neptune was better, they would likely have a lot more business. But sadly, they could get better tomorrow and it would take a long time for them to see the results, because so many have been turned off for so long.
I'm confused... I know Neptune sucks.... but is this a jong v. jong, an alias v. alias, or a alias v. jong battle we have going on here. Either way, I'm paging stfuyfm to the floor to say something.
And it is already the 12th hit for Neptune Mountaineering

Does this really work to bump it up in search engines?

Isnt that the truth with 99% of all ski shops. I have to mentally prepare myself before I walk into one. Dont ask any questions, just buy shit and leave. If you think that is bad try a Bay Area shop, at least you probabaly have another option.
This thread is funny. I haven't read through it all so I'm probably gonna be echoing what everyone else has probably already said.
If it's not apparant by now, I'll confirm the fact that Neptune already had a reputation for elitist snobbery and poor service. It's nothing new. I heard about that as soon as I started climbing in the front range. I figured it was just due to the the whole played out "Bouuuuulder" is too cool for school thing. But I found out firsthand that it was actually true. I live in Golden and shop at The Bent Gate. The vibe is completely different.
If you aren't ripped and decked out in full Prana don't expect to get more than a sideways glance if you go in to buy climbing shit. But, hey, it's primarily a climbing shop. Climbers are a pretty funny crowd, especially boulderers. The fashon show around here is kinda rediculous. Go up to flagstaff or climb at the Spot sometime...I always get a laugh watching self-satisfied (and, admittidly, usually pretty good) climbers strut around with their shirts off making enough noise to ensure that people are paying attention to them. Don't get me wrong, I love to climb. But, there are some really dorky aspects to the scene.
Dissing on Boulder is kind of passe. But, Neptune is the quitissential example of the "I'm lefter, more beautiful, more core, and more socially consicious than thou" bullshit attitude that gives Boulder a bad rep and undermines the purpose of any of those things. You're in CO (Boulder no less) everyone's a climber/biker/skier/etc...Just becuase you are good at one or all of those things doesn't give you any right to an attitude because, chances are, the next customer to walk through the door is probably better than you at at least one of them.
It looks like 6,272 potential customers have now read this thread.
adimmen's banning could go down as Neptudes worst biz decision ever
What an a$$hole. The guy should be fired for his incompetence and for crying to his boss about a customer who only wanted his ski boots.
The Bent gate is where it's at. Still my favorite store in the whole world.

from the neptune web site... have fun with this...
Since April 1st 1973, Gary's easy going and informal approach has attracted many fellow enthusiasts who have come to call Neptune's 'work'. Like no other business owner, Gary has always believed in the benefits of hands-on experience for his staff. He is one employer who understands the importance of playtime. While Gary hires the staff for their enthusiasm and experience, he believes that there is never enough of both. Rather than competing for comissions, we receive bonuses for our activities, such as testing all the Demo skis or climbing McKinley or skiing a marathon or climbing all the routes from the "Hit List" 5.7 or easier (the harder grades count too, but only after the easier grades are completed.)
As we play together, we kind of become like family, like the Addams family to be specific, but 'family is family'.
This section is dedicated to the hardworking Über humans who in fact are the guts, muscle and sinew of Neptune Mountaineering.
Hey douchebags, you’re mob mentality and petty vindictiveness isn’t very attractive.
Damn, I hope Gary reads this and realize he has a bunch of asshats working for him. I mean shit this aint good for his business. I can't say I have ever bought shit from them. Mainly cause I only buy online. But when I have gone in there and wanted something that day, they just didn't have it. So I called the rest of the gear shops til I found what I needed. Price doesn't really matter to me when I want something ASAP.
But really weather the customer is right or wrong, who cares, if the customer is sarcastic and has attitude, who cares.
DO THEY SPEND MONEY?
That should be all the matters to a business. Your employees should know basic business skills and not to sweat some words which don't mean shit after about 2 minutes. Just laugh it off and say how gay Adimen was when he was in here and you had no idea what boots he was talking about in the first place. And what a douche manager going and escalating the situation. He should be straight fired, apparently he has no idea how to run an business and he is the one managing. I mean what the fuck?
Now look what has happened. A huge smear campaign against Neptune, which may be deserved and may not. Shit just cracks me up.
I think customer service is key. I have really had my mind baffled lately at gear shops. Lately Sports Garage lost most of my business for bike shit. And I spend thousands a year. I mean in 05 I spent like 4 grand on my bike and shit from them. I would go there cause they carried my frames and figured they would know the most and take care of me. Well not true at all. I broke a rear hub earlier this year and they just told me it was done, that Mavic wouldn't even take it back, they didn't even call or nothing, just said done. So I go to another shop and he said no problem, I will just send it back. They are now on my shit list and The Fix is the only place I will go anymore just cause of the customer service. Again what the fuck.
the Nep-tood is a long-standing issue at Neptune. See it every time. I've been told by a Neptooded dude salesman - in that, snorting, can-you-believe-this-dork sort of way - that "there is not such thing as 120mm skins." I spend my money elsewhere. They might not know it - yet - but it is their loss.
I have given Neptune plenty of chances over the last 5 years. Every time I have been in there there is 3 or 4 "employees" standing behind the counter with their thumbs up their asses talking about all the rad shit they are gonna do on the weekend.
Go up and ask for help and they look at you like you just stabbed a baby. Finally get any help and they have an attitude the whole time. Make it the least bit obvious that you are still "in the market" and the attitude gets even worse.
Many times they say they have stuff in stock on the phone that they don't have at all, or don't even carry.
Having grown up in a customer service oriented family business the most important thing I have learned from my father is, "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT"
Even if a customer is getting irked or acting like a douche you gotta still do your best to please them. Shower them with helpfulness no matter what. Do your best to assist them. They can't leave angry if you try your best to assist them....usually.
There is a reason we have 10,000 accounts. Many of which have been with us since the '40s.
THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT
fuck Neptude.
