I don't know you, but that was very inspirational stuff. Thanks for sharing and I hope the upcoming procedures and recovery go quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Hey there M. I would like to join the ranks of those who had no idea - but also I'd like to fall in line with the "you're totally awesome and amazing and inspirational and I'm happy to hear your beating it" crowd, too. Here's wishing you continued victories in your fight.
Oh and can I also jump into the "you look hot sans locks" gang. Cause they're right - you do!
Keep winning your fight!
Keep on keeping on sister. We'll see you on the water or on the trail!
Thanks for the story. It puts all of life's petty worries in the appropriate context. I really like that you've kept up your pursuits.
You stay strong and positive and keep on as you are. Mental attitude can make a difference!!
I had a friend who had breast cancer, she was diagnosed in the late 1970s and they gave her only months to live. She fought through and survived. So continued the next 20+ years - every 3 or 4 years a relapse, fight, and then Jane back on her feet. She was one of the happiest people I ever met.
WOW WSD, that's pretty intense and inspiring! Never met you, but definitely feel like I know you after being on this board for so long. Keep up that fight! Oh, and bald is hot, I concur!!!

Like most of you, I continue to be in awe of Marika.
When she first called me to tell me, there were obviously alot of tears and some very, very scary thoughts make there way into your brain, it is inevitable, and, when it is your little sister, heartbreaking. For a short period of time, I was very angry. She was supposed to be the one in our family who didn't get cancer; myself, my mom and my dad had 5 different cancers/tumors between us. But, seeing how she was handling it got me past the anger.
During that first appointment with the surgeon, she was a rock, she never broke down, she only wanted to learn about breast cancer and what she was gonna need to beat it. As a physician, I have rarely seen a patient who is able to process that kind of information so rapidly (the appointment was over an hour and 99% of that time was him educating us).
The fact that she has continued to mountain bike and wakeboard :yourock: is pretty damned cool and it makes me very happy.
She has handled everything she has been through with grace and courage and I couldn't possibly be prouder. It is very humbling.
She has an unbelievable network of friends. They have been there for her throughout and continue to support her. She is very lucky.
I know that your kind words mean alot to her, and they are making me cry as well.
Thanks.
You're one of the strongest people I know, Marika.
...and to paraphrase your advice for all the guys that you so kindly imparted not too long ago: Guys- Feel your girlfriend/wife's boobies for lumps. Do it and do it often.
Let me know if I can be of any help- manservant, dogsitting, chaufferring, housesitting, barbecue assembler, etc. My going rate starts at $10, but I will waive that for you ;)
Congrats on beating down the cancer beast Marika.
Your are an inspiration for anyone going thru that battle.
I think you should make a mullet wig from hop's hair. Then you can have some hair for rocking out to Journey.
u know. I want to say thanks for posting this. It helps remind me that most of my life problems are just petty bullshit. Cancer is a real problem.
I wish you well and you are in my prayers.
WSD = one bad rad mamma-jamma
i was hoping to see some pics of your beehive wig. you DO have one of those right? i mean, I know if i needed wigs the beehive would be the first on the list. ;)
clearly an inspiration, WSD, keep on truckin!
Awesome, rock on.
Well said, well said indeed. Your strength is astonishing. :yourock:
Oh, I have some wig stories ....
There's the gazillion dollar human hair wig I bought that my hairstylist promptly cut to look EXACTLY like the GEICO caveman.
Then there was the wig that I ruined when I opened the oven door and singed the bangs.
Then there was the really long, streaky wig that makes me look about 16.
There was the day I came home to find my very expensive wig on the floor. Sophie, my dog, must've thought it was a toy (no damage, luckily, just some slobber).
Then there's the hilarity that ensues when I make everyone who comes over try on a wig. It's like a rite of passage. And seriously good comic relief for me :).
Oh, the joys of wigs.
(and damn you lph, you just made me cry again. I was doing so well!)
Whoa! Well, if deeply heartfelt good wishes (and admiration) from a total stranger and peripherial member of the group can be of any help or comfort, then you certainly have them.
I don't know how to be more impressed - you're my new idol. Really.
I just thought these two comments flowed into each other so well, esp. considering the source...
Take care, M. Hoping to ski w/you again sometime either when you and lph are out these parts again or if I get back to Tahoe. Your hair will be back, maybe even curly, though I have to agree with the rest of the crew that you look just as fetching with the Ripley look.
You need to buy this costume, it comes with a wig. I will then take you out for a great night next time you're in DC. You might even get lucky.... just not with my old married ass!
:D:D:D

you rock, sister.
and yes, you do look good bald. ;)
But if you want....In a few days, I was gonna cut off my mane and donate it to Locks of Love. Its suuuper long right now, so I have a bunch to spare. If you want some unfortunately straight, but well cared for brunette hair, I'll see if I can get Locks of Love to make sure it gets to you.
Fuck yeah WSD! You rock. Your post made me laugh and feel a great appreciation for life. Thanks for sharing how you are handling your cancer, and also your passion for life... as many have said, it's very inspirational to be touched by people like you. Rock on with yo bad self!
You rock girl! Stay strong and keep living the dream. Great photos. And good luck. Prayers.
I don't know what to say WSD, but I teared up a bit and I so glad to hear you're kicking ass.
wait a sec, lph and WSD are related? who knew? (apparently not me).
Solid TR and one where you stuck the landing. :yourock: My great grandma and grandma both had breast cancer. It scares me that one day I'll get a phone call from mom or one of my sisters....your toughness and attitude of conquerer is admirable. Keep on girl.
Wow, I usually don't get this type of feeling when reading the TGR message boards. I recently lost my fiance in a car accident and have probably had the worst 2 months I will every experience in my life. After reading about your ordeal and how you have chosen to persevere through it all has given me a lot more hope that life will get better for me and for her family, without knowing it, you really helped me through the day. Thanks, a true inspiration.
attaboy girl!!!! you are an inspiration and a kickass human that the world needs more of. rock on amiga.
