That E13 Sidekick hub looks rad, I just saw it this week.
I know E13 gets shit on pretty constantly but I had a pair of their wheels on a hardtail and they survived two years of my hack attempts to learn to ride rocky tech in Arizona.
I ran the TRSr carbon wheels for a couple years of riding hard. They took a lot of knocks no sweat. I bent a rear axle and they sent me two replacements real quick. No other issues.
Now I've been on the WAO Union 29s for a couple seasons. Awesome rims, they've taken so much abuse at low pressures in rocky terrain and no issues. I'm sure the Triads are even better. Not exactly 'budget' but, buy once, cry once.
I'm anxiously waiting for everyone to come out with a ratchet DT Swiss knockoff hub so that the world can just move on with what's cheaper and better all at once.
Just popping in here to point out that Troy won the WC DH at MSA on DT Swiss alloy rims.
Suck it dentists!

It's funny you mention that. After blowing up two carbon rims in one day earlier this summer, I re-laced the wheel with a DT 541. It built up beautifully and it rides nice.
But two months in on it and it's rapidly taking the shape of an octagon. It still holds air, but that thing is riddled with dents. It'd be great as a race day wheelset, but for regular riding, I dunno. Nuking a carbon rim once every few years sounds more attractive than rebuilding an aluminum one every season.
