When it has been stated so many times that maybe the tune guy had them fall off of his truck, but the guy has used the skis in between the tune and pointing out the damage, who's to say they didn't fall out of his truck?

That's a poor analogy. Your analogy would be more applicable if you took your dry cleaning to a dry-cleaning shop, and they then sent it off to a third party. Most ski shops have a service business. Few gas stations do dry-cleaning.

Also, nobody's denying fault, here. That isn't even a question. So that's another poor analogy. You have anything else?

No, this thread changed everything. Before getting advice here it seemed likely that Gripen might not do anything about his skis, and just chalk it up to a bad experience. Odds are then he would have told what happened to his skis to various people, and word would have gone around to avoid this shop.

Because of this thread it looks like everything will be settled and the shop will emerge with its reputation actually enhanced for doing the right thing.

And Goldenrider1, please take your condescending tone and stick it in the tool shed around back. This was never about "big city" thinking, or internet dweebs getting all riled up. This was about a ski community taking time to assist one of their own with a problem.

Yes, believe it or not, this internet forum is not like all the others. You might even say it's a real community, where people know people, and help each other out when they can. Sound familiar? :rolleyes:

If Redi-Mart is saying that they're cleaning my shirt then fuck yea they owe me a shirt. I don't give a shit if it comes out of their pocket or they're reimbursed by the indigenous people of where ever! If I'm dealing with them as the front then my shirt is their problem. If they say they are just holding it for the Maxi-Suck-N-Blo in Cranbrok then that is a different story, but Redi-Mart better be working to a solution too.

Better analogy:
If the Redi-Mart bills itself as a dry cleaner takes your stuff, takes your money and hands off the clothes to Mr. Chew's Nickel Cleaners out the back door I don't give a shit! Redi-Mart is still responsible for replacing whatever gets messed up. Because they were the ones you expected to do the job, no matter how the ended up getting it done. It doesn't matter who ends up paying for the damaged article so long as it isn't me. I already paid and it wasn't for a fucked up job.

I totally relate to Gripen! I've been hosed countless times by ski shops, car mechanics, computer repair guys, etc. I'm normally way too meek. I let shit go. "Oh, I can make it work" or "I learned my lesson" is the usual when it is a situation that needs to be cleared up by the people who caused/aggravated the situation. If Gripen needed a little reassureance that he was in the right before he acted then so what. You're just trying to say that because he was uncertain about his situation or liability and asked for help the shop is right?! Also there was no bragging. And since there was a solution found then this internet discussion was pretty fruitful, so fuck you!

Just wanted to reiterate that Robyn has been great in dealing with this situation. I too applaud her for coming on here. I had, and continue to have, no intention of slamming anyone, in fact her help with this situation has encouraged me to continue doing business there.

The delay between Sunday, when the damage was noticed and Weds, when I got to talk to Robyn was not her fault. I was trying to get in touch the guy who did the skis, it was out of frustration that I contacted Robyn. From the minute she found out about what happened she has been nothing but helpful. Thanks Robyn!

She will continue to have my business in the future.

We will have something sorted the beginning of next week I am sure.

I think in my first post I was more trying to bring to light the uniqueness of the business relationship than discount what anyone deserves or is responsible for. I agree that Gripen deserves compensation for the damage to his equipment. I guess the point of my later post was, hey, if people are so quick to question if the tech guy had the skis fly out of his truck on the highway, why not apply the same question to the owner of the equipment, who has admitted to using the skis inbetween picking them up from tune and pointing out the damage. The scale has to tip both ways, I think..... but anyway, since those two minor but valid points I have been more caught up in the usual e-thugging that I so enjoy.

Seems pretty simple to those capable of rational thought. You are scrounging here man, scrounging for something to hold against me, for some reason....and really, this shit you found is pretty weak. I think it is fine to have more than one stand on a situation, I think it wasn't worth posting on the net, yet he did, and that's fine it's his decision, the way he did it has been mature and level headed...... The only thing I think Gripen shouldn't have done is send Robyn the thread. She seemed to take it quite personally and react a bit to that. No one was slamming her or even at that time her shop as it remained anonymous.

I said the fact nothing was said when Gripen picked up the skis should worry him. I still say it was a worry but now more to the point it should worry Robyn as well. The tune guy seems aware there was damage yet dropped them without notifying the staff. While two parties doing business in a small town benefits both and helps a new business this situation is no way to build a solid reputation for a new business and reflects badly on Robyn's established business. Robyn seems to recognize that and is now taking care of the problem.

While a staff member telling Gripen to contact the tune guy directly may not have been a blow off and certainly wasn't Robyn's blow off since she wasn't yet in the loop it still SEEMS like a blow off. The reality isn't as important as the perception established with the client. It sounds like Robyn has been very proactive about this but her staff should have let her know about it as soon as possible. If she wasn't available the staff should have told Gripen that she couldn't be reached for a couple of days.

Robyn got a little peeved and said her piece but all in all is being quite reasonable and sounds like is being very responsible in getting things resolved. Golden rider on the other hand is not doing her shop any favours by coming on trash talking everyone and referring to odd and sundry as special needs cases. The confusing part about your analogy is a grocery store (not usually associated with dry cleaning) taking drycleaning for a Cranbrook service and a ski/board shop (commonly associated with tuning gear) actually farming out or accepting the tuning for a third party. That's what's confusing (polite way of saying dumb) about your analogy and that is much different than eldo being confused by the analogy. I hope your schooling taught you enough to keep up with that golden rider. BTW I can't disagree that skiing on the skis could have been a problem. I certainly would have phoned the shop to let them know first thing BEFORE skiing. Not sure if Kicking Horse has much cell coverage. OTOH it wouldn't have made matters better if Gripen had also lost a ski day in the deal. Kudos that people just fessed up to the damage (caught in machine) and didn't try to slide out on the 'they fell off of your truck' line.

Gripen came, posted without names, got advice and got steered in some appropriate directions. Things are being fixed up no thanks to golden rider but thanks to robyn and really it should just die now. Golden rider you really aren't helping with that nor are you helping Darkside/Robyn or tune guy's reputation at all.

It's like CSI up in here.....I dunno why you guys act like this thread is the only thing determining the outcome of the situation, it's like internet judge judy or something....in actuality I imagine it is doing very little to affect the outcome. I dunno, I threw a different perspective in the mix and the reaction was all like 'ahhh someone thinks different, what a dick' and stuff. As a part time shop troll, I find this suspect. When I'm done with a ski, I put my peepers about 3" from the ski while it's still in the vice and inspect the whole enchilada. I simply find it hard to believe that nobody noticed that much damage.

That said, I understand that it wasn't Robyn and I applaud her for taking the squirrel by the beanbag here.
