Dude, I will seriously fly back East for some type of CampGaw/ Hidden Valley/ Mt Peter mini. Somebody should try and make it happen :)
Jack Frost j4-j1 race alumni here. Used to do Campgaw week nights after work in my tele crazed days of the 90s and I raise you Spring mountain in pa.
I 'll raise that spring mount, just drove over to see how the snow held up that they just blew last week.....Such a little bump but good enough to skin a lap or two before school start and after school......Can I get a DOE MTN ( now bear creak)
FUSSY ....just read your PM will be contact for sure .. same crowd......
Yeah, I figured that was the case, too small an area not to have crossed paths...you beat me to Doe Mtn but how about a raise for Elk Mtn. Only went there 4-5 times but it never seemed to get as crowded as CB or JF and at the time seemed worth the little extra drive.
in other news, the skiing was actually sick today with ~10" of snow rained on, and smooshed down into a creamy 4-5"
no one around meant first tracks for hours.
^sick huh? You might be sick inda head petrics :fm:
So my insanity at this weather has me trying to teach myself to read METAR data. I think, that the remote station that is about 30 miles NW from Jay is saying its 31 now. Also, I think, that the precipitation in the Jay area was not as heavy during the rain hours as predicted. But I'm flailing around here.
I cannot tell you exactly what the weather is at Jay, but here at our house, at 800 feet and about 6 miles as the crow flies to Jay, it is 31 degrees. While it rained fairly hard first thing this morning, it has been only drizzling for most of the day. My dog is very disappointed that I don't want to go outside and play since "it's only drizzling" but it's also raw and so foggy that it's been dark out for the past hour or so. But you know the saying: "If you're dressed appropriately, it's not as bad as it sounds." :rolleyes2
Oh, look, it just turned to snow! No kidding!
^^^Awesome, thanks. You just made my afternoon. Saw the official Jay report too, sounds like they are also saying the rain wasn't too bad.

^^^Let's just hope it starts snowing harder! It is certainly already increasing in intensity.
NOAA's onboard - winter wx advisory in the north lands.

So, I'm easin around here and wanting to see the stoke for storm chatter.
instead therude posts naked pictures of jay. Not nice...
I have to go and find some first turns somewhere.
a seven hour drive to Jay is not my idea of fun, but if it's a must?
Stowe was my original target; I'm open to recommendations.
I'm watching dime sized dendrites landing on my stoop
Campgaw; my best man's son still does freelance ski lesson's there.
that hardly qualifies as a bump. now Craigmeur had 700' vertical feet
of the best aspect known to man... when I was 7.
^^^ wise words
I thought akoksis screen grab was kinda great actually. most accumulation is right on the "Stowe~Smuggs~Jay" line...
would I be wrong?
hopin you notherners are going to share good intel over the next 24 hours, before I quietly roll down and out of the driveway with the engine off in the snow car.
On the fence about driving up to Steaux early AM tomorrow. It's that or a local MTB ride.
Yea SST, no plan for the trees... just not to excited about sandpaper either, unless it constitutes the base.
Glad to hear that. You'd be surprised how many people think they're going to ski in the woods this weekend, so I thought I'd put that out there, just in case. It is never fun to haul someone out of the woods when there's no snow for the patrollers to use getting in and out with a sled. I will do my best to keep folks updated with what's going on up here. :)
BREAKING NEWS!
At approximately 4:23 and 24 seconds EST the liquid precip transitioned to a semi-frozen, undetermined particulate matter in Le Belt du Banana. Said matter has since transitioned to honest to God snowflakes within the past thirty minutes or so.
