The most beautiful 996 in the most proper color (arctic silver) for a 911 IMHO.
Loved the Top Gear on with Hammond and Jezza in the old red Lancia.
The name Godzilla is more appropriate than ever.

1,200 less than a Cont'l GT.
Horsepower: 545 to 600 hp
Curb weight: 3,813 to 3,922 lbs
Wow, Bentleys weigh much much more than I thought they already did.
And it still destroys almost every other car at the Ring, save the 2M 918 and the 700k+ Aventador SV. The Radicals and Viper don't count, as they are purpose built track cars. The 991 GT3 RS can't even beat the base GT-R.

They aren't very pretty, but not many Japanese cars are.
Beautiful photography, beautiful subject.
Saw a Boxster Roadster today, what cool car. Faster than a lot of 911s and better balance.

^saw this recently, incredible lines
Being a P car fanboy, I just saw this and I want in awd. I can wait 2 more years for it to replace the V70R.
Photo does not post, so here is the link: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/porsche-r...111549650.html
Yeah. The Shooting Brake Panamera will be nice.

That is a production 918 Weissach.
^^^^Uuuuuh....that doesn't look anywhere as good as the photo I saw????
Mules always look like shit.
Quad tips and Yellow calipers. That's a Turbo S.
It's amazing how much crap they put on a car to disguise a preproduction test platform.....right down to different cowlings and even a fake hatchback!!
It's like that designed-in Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction"....they want something to be seen, but only enough to cause a stir.
EDIT: That's not a 918 chassis, Beer drinker....look at the wheelbase. I would presume the 918 would be on a true monocoque chassis, wouldn't it? It better be for a $980,000 car! Although a Panamera with the underpinnings of a nearly 900 horsepower 918 WOULD be one hell of a trippy four-door if they could swing it!!
BTW, I take some umbrage to Porsche using the name 918 for their production car. I know its partly a nod to what is perhaps the greatest automobile ever designed by man, the inimitable 917....but the 918 is so far below the shadow of the 917 as to be merely laughable.
AkRover the 918 he's referring to is the picture of the wheel above with neon yellow calipers and flat grey paint.
And the picture he posted is the test mule for the new Panamera Shooting Brake. Click the link in Liv2Ski's same post above to see the rendering. It's awesome. That and the new V90 are the best looking wagons ever made.
Bless his heart, AKR probably just was trying to stir the conversation.
It's like the other day the wife and I went up to the N. GA mountains for a drive in our 997. Some douche in a brand spanking new 991 S comes up and starts pointing out every way that his 911 is better and so much more evolved. Kept pointing to his very pretty ride and saying he's so glad he got this instead of some other amazing car.
After trying to escape the uninvited conversation on our way into the general store/roadside stand I had enough and told him that he obviously doesn't 'get' Porsche. There is no 'better', only different, and he should try that line out on the guy we saw earlier in the day with a gorgeous lime green early-70's 911RS, and clearly the only reason he bought his car was to start bragging conversations with strangers trying to buy a fucking Coke.
Once again my wife rolled her eyes and reminded me not to talk to strangers.
Sounds like a Tim Minchin skit.

No way are the new Panamera or V90 wagons the most beautiful made. The Panamera hardly qualifies as a wagon at all.
I'm open to "getting it." I'd just like to know what "it" is. I mean, the 918 is a glorious technical marvel with little to criticize. The idea that it's "so far below the shadow of the 917 as to be merely laughable" has me truly wondering what makes the 917 so amazing in comparison. On the face of it, they appear to be totally different cars (as BMS pointed out).
AKR conflated the 918 pic I posted with the Panamera next to BeerDrinker's note on the 918. A 918 is miles away from the Panamera in terms of function, purpose, etc (AKR's effective point). The 917 flat 12 sound is a great way to hear how much better a 917 is in terms of the sensation of speed vs Panamera. But a 918 is arguably every bit as special as a 17. Not that important but it makes sense.
Best compliment I've gotten so far on the 996 came from a neighbor's ~10 yo son on his bike in the parking lot:
"gimme your porsh!"
that kid gets it
I think we're all saying the same thing.
Gimme your Porsche.
(Sung to the tune of Vinny Dorian's "Gimme yo 1080s" from Superpark in my head)
Why would anyone even compare the 917 and 918? Because they're one number apart?
Exactly. Not better, just different. Numbers aside.
This is a 917

This is a race car, from almost 50 years ago.

He's talking about the Shooting Brake, which is in fact a Wagon.

A regular Panamera is more of a hatch back with folding seats.
How is a Boxter a 917?
Which is the car AKR referenced. The Porsche 917 by anyone who mentions Porsche 917.
A wagon because that's how it's being branded. There is next to no increased utility. Maybe an easier to find box mounting system.

Wagon In Name Only. WINO. Just thought of that. It's gonna be hudge.
Wino, Heh. What would you consider an AMC Eagle?
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the extreme angled rear windows either in most new wagons. Seems to take away some decent cubic footage. Try cramming a dresser into some of these new wagons. No problem with my XC70 tho! That said, my wife and I REALLY want the upcoming V90, angled rear window or not. Haha. Then again, hopefully we'll be making enough loot where the Porsche "wagon" ends up being a real contender. That wouldn't be too shabby either. As long as we can toss the dogs in the back, the brats in the back seat, and the gear in a roofbox, we'll be happy.
Oooooh, speaking of bonkers wagons with roof boxes I can't wait to see what Jon Olssen does to his Panamera Shooting Brake.
When I was in HS, my best friend's dad had an '83 SC. One day he mentioned to me that he was thinking of trading it in on a 996 Turbo, and asked what I thought of that idea. I told him that I thought he should keep the SC, because while it wasn't as fast or as new as the 996, it was a much nicer, classier car.
He's still got the SC today. Looks just like this:
