yup ^^^ that is pretty much spot on, if i didn't have an old conform'ables heat molded liner to try in that shell I would have had to mail the mercury's back, so I sprung for power wraps this season AND in spite of all the $$$$ I had to spend ... for my foot there was no other choice !Quote:

My post is relevant to those who continue enquire about the fit of the stock liners. The only people who know the liner is shit are those who have bought it or tried it on and as many sizes are not available anymore, for those wondering, it is very much relevant when people continue to post misinformation.Quote:

I don't think the Dynafit liners are all that bad. The older versions were pretty poor but these newer ones from 2 - 3 years ago are a distinct improvement

Had the Vulcan/Beast combo out today.
This made me realize how much AT boots and bindings have come along. Blackcomb Gl was flat light. Maybe 5cms of chopped up snow with traverse tracks on it. With this combo - no problem. Just drive the skis, keep the tips going forward and charge. Eye-opening for sure in the sense of reinforcing just how good these boots are
Before Lee slaughters me for going against the Intuition hype train, I've skied 98% of my days in the stock liner rather than a pair of free pro tours I received.
Mind you, reason being is I have a pretty big calf, too big for a pro tour in a vulcan and it cramps me up pretty badly. My consensus is a lower volume Dreamliner would solve that, but for now I've racked 100+ days on the stock liner and I find them great :)

I'll give it a try. The stock liner has a weird, harsh, hard kind of feel with a lot of toe box room. Heat molding relieved a bit of pressure across the fore foot, but did little else. I was all set to get a pair of Pro Tours, but perhaps with a bit of use, I'll get used to them. I will report back.
I skied the stock Vulcan liner one day last season and hated it. Felt like your avg alpine liner. I could see it packing out real quick if touring a lot.
That being said, I went ahead and had mine foamed at Surefoot (gasp!). Adds a nice even structure to compliment a stiff boot that will take you for a ride if you're not driving it. I honestly don't view the Vulcan as an AT boot, so not even thinking about weight. Lee Lau can provide that data, but anyone using this boot in the 1st place probably isn't worried about weight either.
If I was out on multi tour days, then I probably would go for lighter gear anyway. IMO, the Vulcan is a great resort/side country boot that happens to have tech binding capability (bonus).
And you're running them with beasts 100% of the time - or are you jamming them into some other alpine binding?
100% beasts last season and 100 % FR radicals this season. Havent broken out the beasts yet this season because its low tide at Whistler and I dont want to trash my carbon lhasa's the beasts are mounted to. Hopefully that situation changes soon.
The light weight is one of the main reasons I got them. Sure you can go lighter, but its hard to beat the weight/stiffness combination.Quote:

gotten a few days on my ren vulcan beast setup....hoji has helped created some pretty amazing products. skied them hard at the resort for about two weeks. didn't hold back at all, hit some pretty big cliffs to hard snow, skied a bunch of lines with no fall zones, and basically treated the setup as if it was a 916 and a pair of plug boots...pre released once from vibration, but i was on ice and going about 60. in my mind this binding isn't quite a 16 din downhill binding and on hard snow it won't be able to do some things, but in soft snow there isn't a line you can't ski on account of your bindings. still working out vulcan fit, but loving it so far. don't think it's too stiff at all, coming from a krypton pro and wouldn't say they ski much stiffer than it. the flax is just a bit more abrupt and doesn't absorb variable snow as nicely as the krypton. will offer a better review once i get the fit dialed.
Any consensus on what a used pair of vulcans is worth? Purchased in the spring, about 40+ days, single punch at navicular area on left boot. liners molded once. 300-400 range?
$400 seems fair. Almost "new" pairs going for $600-$650. What size?Quote:

^^^me, and they are awesome - cuts down maybe 25% on walk mode freedom but adds that 25% stiffness to a tongueless and power strapless rig. If you are use to touring with a typical AT boot with PW's you will love the vulcan/PW combo. Took mine out of some quadrants and they fit in vulcans perfect.
The PW's don't limit the ROM, they just stiffen it into something more progressive. It will still move back as far just have to flex the liner with it - no shin or calf bang associated with some big days either.

What size did you end up on the freedoms? How are they working out? I'd consider the 27/.5 but would really need to ski them or another friend that has 27's. I am right on the 26-27 bubble on dynafit and really need to get on them to know for sure.
26.5 zzero4 worked perfectly with a toe punch. 27/.5 TLT5 fit but barely across forefoot and I hated the way the bellows skied. Many I've spoken to have been all over the map on mercury and Vulcan fit.
