Only got out on mt Helena, some of the stuff on the north side, the ridge trail, emmitts, show me the horse. It was all pretty nice but maybe not living up to the hype.
Wasn't too hot, think my ride monday stayed under 80, then as soon as i got over mcdonald pass on the way back it was 95+
MTBcity is a decent place to stay although you get a lot of noise from the highway and train tracks at night. But they have an actual indoor bathroom you can use and showers and power and stuff.

That's hilarious. Especially the comment about messing up strava times when the guy in the pic is holding an e-bike.
Here in socal people just run over rattle snakes. "I was going too fast to avoid it. But it slithered away, it was fine!" Um, no. If you get run over by a car laying down on the road, you might be able to crawl off the road. But chances are you're in pretty bad shape. If a snakes organs are damaged or it can't move effectively it will die soon enough. /rant
A couple years ago the first rattler I came across for the season wouldn't move. I grabbed a stick to prod it off, no reaction reaction at all. Sometimes they're lethargic first thing. Lifted it up with the stick and it was stiff as a board. Dead. So I planted it on a big rock next to the trail, right at shoulder level. Best part was the tail was at an angle that allowed the breeze to blow the rattle. Heard from a couple friends who had to go way off trail to get past a snake that wouldn't move.

Aside from funky brakes*, had a pretty delightful ride near Serfaus yesterday.
Bikepark looked really busy and the car park was pretty full, though the attendant said it was still less people than usual... Not in a rush to ride lifts there with that many people around (too stressful having senders hot on my tail haha!)!

*Probably a topic for another thread, but does anyone have experience with Sram Code R brakes?
They were ok but not great out of the box, then quite quickly got spongy. I've bled them once already (with help from a friend, and done properly) and they got a lot better... for about two weeks. Now they are spongy again and I basically have to pull them all the way to the handle bars. Yesterday they also started squealing too - same sound as when wet (but they were dry), for probably around 2/3rds of the descent...
Not sure if I should just bleed them again, or if this is a fault I should try to warranty through YT, or if they're just not great brakes and I should replace them - and if so with what?

Bow Valley Parkway ride on a hot Sunday. Great road closed to vehicle traffic. The lack of traffic tends to bring out our ursine friends. I’m probably 50/50 for seeing bears over the 10 or so rides I’ve done of the past two summers.

I’m at around 200mi, 10 or so rides. It’s a noticeable step up on the descents from my 2016 5010C with a RL Gold fork. Feels really locked in descending and I’m a fan of its feel overall. However: my grip shift lockout mechanism came broken so I’ve had to ride the rear on Open thus far. I have a new lockout that my mechanic will install next week. Climbing performance has blown me away yet, but I haven’t been able to climb at full potential.Quote:

I tried to move past that and just get a bike that checked the boxes and had Big Bang for the buck (and was available in 2020). $5300 got me X01, Factory, $2700 wheels and a nice array of other parts at 28lbs riding weight.
Maybe a Spur or Ripley or 429 or Ranger would have stroked my ego a bit more, but I doubt it would change the end result that much.
My wife got sucked into the hype and decided the Ripley was “her” bike. $7000+ later she has a SLX build that “isn’t that light” but she does love the feel now. With some more outlays we’ll get it spec’d to a build that makes her happy.
All in all, I’m happy with my choice and the $3000 out of pocket it cost me to upgrade from my base 5010. I think I’ll be more psyched when the lockout works and I can chase some Strava PR’s.
