You can still get some very well made guns from sig glock and others, theres just the chance of getting a lemon with some issues. If you get one that runs reliably and doesn't have any issues, there is no reason to think it won't continue to do so.
There are several fairly recent production sig pistols that have had well over a million documented rounds through them, and I'm sure a bunch of others in military use that have close to that much without anyone counting.

Gunna have a hard time selling that thing as a 30lb+ shoulder fired rifle to anyone but Andre the Giant. The pump action thing for firing blanks is a retarded addition to an already heavy and oversized semi auto.

I had a sig 40. The slide release pin would start to wiggle it's way out after 200 rounds! Scary.
I replaced it with a glock 19. Hated that too, shoots like shit, feels like a toy. Double stack compact makes no sense either.

I'm just kinda stoked and feel the need to share with anyone that will listen. I've had my Sig 556 for a while now, but just finally spent the money to put an el cheapo scope on it so I could really test its accuracy. Well, turns out its a pretty damn good shooter.

I've heard some people have had some problems with their 556's but mine has been 100% reliable, not a single malf, and is accurate, comfortable, and just all around badass. I am NEVER selling this thing.
Now all it needs is to someday get an actual decent scope on it instead of the heavy cheap millet.
I was scrolling down through the thread and saw the first range pic before I saw the poster, and thought, 'hey, I recognize that range...'
So after living in small, idyllic ski town for years we now live in a giant, not so idyllic, ski metropolis of the PNW, in a not so nice neighborhood to boot. After getting minorly stalked, followed, and generally creeped out a couple times the wife is ready to start packing some heat w/ a CCW permit of course.
I grew up around guns in the dirty south so I'm of the opinion that bigger is better, maybe a .38. She's interested in like a .22 revolver, something real small and light. Any thoughts, suggestions on this? Maybe a 22 magnum instead of LR?
I was thinking of picking up just like an inexpensive 22 rifle first to get her familiar w/ shooting, safety etc. Then maybe she could take a class as well. Then get her to pick out her handgun herself when she knows a little more. WWMD?

Leroy, any take on the new Ruger 556. It is around the same price as the sig and uses a gas piston also. I just read about it in the new American Rifleman (NRA magazine). I had my sights on the Sig classic with the folding stock but I have not read of any head to head comparisons. Sigs usually beat Rugers in my opinion.Quote:

Thanks the advice. That's kind of what I was thinking about the .22 rifle. More of an excuse for me to get one. I haven't owned one since I was a kid and it would be fun to shoot some cans once in while. Plus in the off chance that a rabid squirrell was trying to invade my home I wouldn't want to have to use the 12 gauge. Any rec's?Quote:

Well, a Ruger 10/22 is cheap (I think about $180 for the basic "carbine" model), but it can get progressively more expensive due to the fact that you can replace any part with thousands of custom parts. It is not about stopping power, it is about shot placement. If the only gun she is comfortable with is a 22 than have her practice with that. It doesn't do anyone any good to be waving some gun around that they aren't comfortable with and blow holes in the air. I have personally seen a guy get killed with a little bitty 22. A shot to the central nervous system with a 22 will drop anyone regardless of what they are on and that is the only guarantee you will drop someone.
