Get some sleep, Tri. You obviously had a long shift.
Acting Boston Mayor, Kim Janey not mincing words. Right on!

For those of you on the Left who say that voting ID puts undue burden on POC as they would be negatively impacted by such measures. How do you square that logic with thinking showing proof of vaccination isn't racist? When something like 70% of black people haven't received the vaccine, whether by choice or otherwise, wouldn't that keep them from participating in everyday society? Sounds like one heck of an undue burden on that segment of the population if you ask me. Seems.... kinda racist. :fm:
Requiring voter ID is racist mainly because of historical reasons. Ever since the 15th Amendment gave black people the right to vote various states have tried to find ways to disenfranchise them. Voter ID is simply the latest iteration. Proof of vaccination, on the other hand, is about public health. As far as I know there's no history of racist intent behind proof of vaccination, thus not racist.
There is a big magnet tunnel that pulls vaccinated persons into the approved lane and only the approved lane leads to the concert. No way to fake it.
Yeah that's crazy talk, but at the same time...

If getting access to ID was as easy as getting access to the vaccine, sure. In most regions it's used to disenfranchise as the immediate follow up is to make dmv etc have weird hours and close locations in minority areas. It also does fuck all to reduce fraud.
^^^ thank you for splaining it so clearly. But Austin and most on the right will deny that ever happened or shrug it off and say secure elections are the goal.
Article on this appeared in yesterday's Washington Post, https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...ax-dies-covid/
Looked at the comments and they are good reading. A few that hit home for me:
-May the Good Lord show his soul more mercy and compassion than he showed his fellow humans.
-It was his choice to go with right-wing ideology and it's anti-science crap over doing what smart people do, and man did he pay a steep price...
This one especially stands out, on the GoFundMe setup to pay medical and funeral bills:
-To add insult to injury they want people, they haven't given a hoot about, to send them money because the predictable thing happened.
It’s like Austin/MF is trying to prove he’s dumb with most of his posts.
Vaccines are free, please get one. You need voter ID but we’re going to make it difficult to get.
I’m all for voter ID but if it’s required the onus of getting people the cards is on the government.

I’d guess from a quick mental review of headlines that there are more instances of fake vaccine cards than there are voter fraud.
You won't kill your neighbor if you don't vote.
Montucky is a dumbfuck redneck racist. Obama throws a party and it's a "pimp party". Throws out unsubstantiated numbers like 70% of black people wont get vaccinated. Stay tuned for the next dose of idiocy until you end up putting him on ignore, I guess.

So I got the J&J shot back in March. I went though this whole thing this year that I'm sure has left me immunocompromised, to some extent, for now at least, and my family has been leaning on me hard to get one dose of one of the other shots. Whats the consensus on this? My reading (but I haven't really been keepng up lately) indicates there's no point to this additional jab. What say yez?
I dont know or not if Montuckys percentages are right. I do know that what you posted is a survey, not actual #'s of vaxxed. And the fact that is says "plan to get asap" is a bit odd. Im sure plenty of minorities WANT to get them ASAP, however, from what I have seen locally, the numbers in those communities is still low, due to access issues.
Doesnt mean I think we should have voter ID cards, or actually vax cards for that matter. I don't have to run around proving I had the measles vax, or any of the other required.

Overall, across these 40 states, the percent of White people who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose (49%) was roughly 1.3 times higher than the rate for Black people (38%) and 1.1 times higher than the rate for Hispanic people (43%) as of August 2, 2021
