is it just me, or is monaco the lamest race of the season? no passing, no action, just a snooze parade.
The announcers did their best to amp up the excitement by talking about tire wear the last half, but without having the drivers take advantage of the tire wear or even the Ricciardo's engine issues their discussion failed.

come on, there was no change of position from qualifying to finish for the top 5. there has to be a bad pit stop or fatal mechanical to cause a top 5 pass. there were not a lot of risks. Several of the drivers even said how boring it was. Glad I went out drinking after 5 laps. on the other hand, the vintage race the weekend before was cool.

French GP a snoozefest, per usual with F1. Alonso to Mclaren Indy looking good and also rumours of Scott Dixon, arguably the greatest driver of his generation in Indycar (and probably the 2nd greatest driver in the world after Alonso) is going to Mclaren Indy with a 3 year offer around $30M.
Road America was a bit of a bore at the front but plenty of overtaking towards the rest of the pack. Interesting to see how the championship plays out and when Mclaren will formally announce 2019 Indycar plans.

* a quick google shows that his first F1 drive was April 2004 (in the Williams, not a Toyota) at Paul Ricard and Schumacher was 8/10ths faster than him.
He drove a Toyota for CGR in 2003, hence the mix-up also Ralf's former tenure with Toyota.
Regardless, Hamilton has Button-esque talent, just lucked into good Cars at the right time and is marketable. F1 has never been about driving talent anyways.

It is the pinnacle. The only other series I’m aware of that ever posted faster lap times vs same year F1 cars were certain Can-Am cars, I believe the Porsche 917 years specifically, late 60s early 70s and that series was basically regulation-less as we all know.
There isn't a miscellaneous OW, DTM, WEC, Nascar thread so I assume this is default thread. TGR has never had a problem with tangents before. I hate the current generation of F1, but still maintain a close interest as I follow all the top series. If F1 goes back to the classic 1990-2009 era, I will go back to being a supporter.
CanAM was way before my time but from what I have read its badass, probably on par with CART circa 1989-1999 and F1 in the 90s as the greatest series of all time
Fairly certain CanAm and F1 were all racing at Mosport and The Glen at the time, late 60s early 70s, the stuff of legend. Check out old canam footage, seems like you’d really like it

I saw Dennis Hulme and Bruce McLaren driving their orange Can Am cars at Bridgehampton. It was 1968, I think. Those cars were beasts. The McLarens were the equivalent of the Mercs in the first two years of hybrids. Everyone else was racing for third.Quote:

I think Alonso has been a victim of circumstance more than anything. He breaks out with Renault in 2005 and 2006 ending the Ferrari dominance. Goes to Mclaren which was at a disadvantage to Ferrari in 2007. Then back to Renault where he is competitive, but a lower first tier team. Ah, the Bog. Crazy shit. And that picture is of an event there that would be the end of Bog festivities. I was there that year, but, missed the burning, just drove in and by the wreckage, and said, holy shit, thats a bus! Seems that some nice race fan or fans stole the bus that some Brazilian fans had been using, luggage and all, and drove it down to the Bog and torched it in broad daylight. You can assume that drugs and a plentiful amount of alcohol were a contributing factor. Local authorities filled the Bog after that, and state troopers made sure that the festivities involving building huge fires with cars would end. I always thought that incident led to the end of F1 at the Glen.Quote:
