Ghost's health deteriorated in a hurry last week and we had to put him down. He had a condition called degenerative myelopathy and I think maybe I was in denial about how badly he was slipping over these past 6 months and how far removed he was from the days when he would ski or bike with me all day. It's hard to acknowledge that you're going to lose such a loyal friend.
He was a really good dog: smart, empathetic, and loyal. We skied together every single year of his life, covering 6 different states and the District of Columbia: we even got in probably 20 days together in the last year, though they were very mellow. His 13th birthday would've been Thanksgiving. I'm not 100% sure about the day he was born, but we knew it was mid to late November, and we decided he could just enjoy the holiday and eat turkey scraps. He was a hell of an athletic dog and could run forever until the DM started to mess with him: our big days when he was in his prime were 25-30 miles.
He had some friends who post on here, and he enjoyed their dirty ski bum company over the years.
Miss ya buddy.
