Skied Sunday at Alpine with StormDay. The snow was actually pretty good. I think all the wind from the days after the storm sucked moisture out; also the temps stayed cold all day; snow the trees, even in the sun was not melting. Onehotchili was rumored to be there, but didnt see him.
Unfortunately I had to leave this morning to come back to Sacto...it was starting out like yesterday; bluebird and below freezing even after 10, in Truckee. Hope some people got some.
minddoc you make myself want to start riding tele, with that filthy mouth of yours. But thats not the point, because I know people who ride tele and I like them. But I think hop should lay some tele turns into your throat and all will be resolved....:FIREdevil :FIREdevil :FIREdevil :FIREdevil :FIREdevil
The snow was soooooo much better on Saturday. Of course, the visibility up top on Saturday sucked proverbial ass, while Sunday was positively bluebird. But the upside of the bad visibility (now that I think about it) was the gapers' abandonment of Summit, leaving me to lap D7 and points left until my quads ceased working.Quote:

Then, for my warm-up run, I hiked to Upper Beaver or Estelle (I'm not sure which; I don't know the mountain well enough yet) for what looked to be sweet untracked from afar but turned out to be crud.
My wobbly aging legs laughed at me. And it was one of those really shrill, evil laughs. I didn't start to cut turns right until around 11am, right before picking up my daughter to have lunch. Then she and I did a couple of runs down Sherwood.
Back side snow conditions were "eh" by early afternoon, but that was my first venture back there and I was hooked not withstanding the mix of crust and crud. I'm really looking forward to hitting it on a powder day. My wife wasn't up this weekend, and hasn't seen the back side yet, but I described Sherwood to her as Sun Bowl at Squaw, but twice as long, five times as wide, no suck-ass traverse at the end, fast lift back up, and a better view of the lake to boot. What could be bad?
I hit South Face around 12:30. Given how well sun spot was holding up, I was a little surprised on how heavy it was getting. I managed to find some patches of 2-4" of uncut that were good for 5-6 turns a pop. (Mantras handled the nasty snow pretty well.) The backside needs another storm with >6" of snow or for warm weather to corn it up before it will be good.Quote:

Estelle: There is usually a sign on the hike and a extra little climb to make.
For MLK weekend, I’ll be at Alpine from Thurs thru Mon (12/12 thru 12/16). Wife and kids are going to the in-laws, so I’ll be getting some full days in without kid duty.Quote:

Orange sign says "Estelle" or "Estelle Bowl". It is usually about 1/3 the way up the last climb to Estelle.Quote:

Yep. Tan Oakley pants, silver Marker helmet, Maden AKs.
Be there or be square.
Damn, that is a pretty cool photo, AKA. Did you crop that or what? If you can figure out how to email me the photo, full quality, that would be cool.
I can now understand why I was so wet and cold on the way home. :D
That was deep, not sure we will see it's equal again this year, but I can hope.
ok, thats it. will all you fuckers please stop posting in this thread. x-mas was over 2 weeks ago and again we just missed another potential storm. get this bad juju thread off page 1 and keep it there. mmmmmkay??????
Well, I just thought I should let you know that hop and I just ate sushi together in SF...that should bring the snow for xmas week. However, I really don't know what to ask for from Santa. The PS3 looks good, but a stand alone Blue Ray DVD player would be sick too. :
Sorry Gimpy, you made me do it :p
Yes, we certainly did eat sushi. I also drank champagne out of a can with a little straw (until I lost it in the can).Quote:

Yup, I really want to ski while it is drizzling
Jim, do your worst on minddoc. I am off today (not skiing) if you need some help.
Please let this thread die. Rain makes people sad. Just look at the suicide rate in Seattle.
