i don't really like colorado in general
oh, i agree with you, i like the women in Boulder much more than the majority of girls from the South. Physical beauty is only a small part of the whole, and most of them are exactly how you described them. I'm not down with that, which is why I am here now. It's pathetic to talk to friends or here about people I went to high school with and they are all married and have super serious, corporate jobs, and kids. Just don't understand why they felt they needed to rush through life so badly.Quote:

I've had alot of fun in and near Boulder, many of my friends went to CU (I sure as hell didn't), and friends who bought there years ago are still there, but this is a ski site:Quote:

That's it, 1 & 2, the rest of the gripes really don't matter. If you think driving up I-70 is skiing, then you need to travel around the West a little more.
You've obviously never been to RMNP. Unless by "skiing" you mean "lift-accessed feelings of superiority." Then I recommend going to Beaver Creek.Quote:

One more time cj? The kind of people who read this website? Not from what I've read.Quote:

Yep, Boulder sucks because even though it has more access to more outdoor activities than most places, there are some towns that have closer skiing and/or other activities. And even though Colorado has some good skiing, some states have better places to ski than Colorado. And yeah, it's absurdly expensive. It's so expensive that nobody can afford to live there except the really really rich, non-core, poseurs.Quote:

seems to have varying degrees of the aformentioned boulder problems. and most of the other western states have better skiing/biking/kayaking/general expeditioning etc. although i think denver is up and coming. and all the ski areas are resorts and cant hold snow on steepsQuote:

Love it. Was just out in Boulder for the first time in a long time this past weekend. Good to see it's still keeping it real. Was at a brew pub there and they had a "Probiotic, Fermented Slaw Plate" as a late night appetizer on the menu, 100% vegan and gluten free too. Classic.
whoa! trippy bump, seeing as my brother wrote that article.
lulz!
edit: he still lives there
Is the Silicon Valley of Montana considered a podunk shithole? :rolleyes2
It just strikes me as funny that you say "classic" when you've been to Boulder once and judge it by one menu item. Especially coming from Denver the center of pretentious city but close to the mountain folks. Trust me (hopefully Danno will confirm) I've got enough Boulder hate for quite a few people but with the ridiculous too much time on their hands diets people there come up with you have to cater to everyone.
Although the fact that the Sundowner is closing takes away any lasting hope I had for that soulless hellhole.
You're talking about Shine. Those "probiotic, fermented slaws" are pretty awesome. They're basically variations on pickles, sauerkraut and kimchi - super flavorful. The fennel slaw is my personal favorite. And the place isn't all vegan and gluten free; their house bread (comes with yam butter) is excellent, and they do a solid roast chicken. I'm not a health food nut, I just like good food, and they've got it (though it's kinda silly expensive unless you're there at happy hour). Great back room for music, too.
I remember reading that article about Boulder years ago, and thinking the same thing: apparently the author isn't very good at finding friends he's compatible with. Yeah, there are assholes here, including the pseudo-hippy and extreme-athlete variety. But it's not like you have to hang out with them; I rarely come across them, and they're good for a laugh when I do. There are also awesome folks here who are fun, smart, down to earth, and like to do the same recreational stuff that you do. If you can't find them, you're not looking very hard.
I've been to Boulder plenty, just not lately (I said first time in a long time). Did not know the Sundowner was closing, pissed I didn't go this past weekend. I would have to disagree about Denver being the center of pretentious city but close to the mountain folks, but I'm in Denver:biggrin:
um Peg, yer not very bright are ya?
it's called satire.
Everyone I met while hiking in RMNP this past weekend was so friendly and outgoing.
- said no one
Luckily I had a 5am start and caught a bright red sky of a sunrise at the top of Flattop. Just blown away by the lack of smiles and responses to me being friendly on the descent. Maybe they were all pissed I was hiking down by 730am while they were still below treeline.
I think it's funny. I often have similar but different thoughts about Sedona. I think every mountain town has some aspects of this going on. I often joke about how JXN folks believe it's the ski center of the universe and it is a great place but there are many of those.
I have been fortunate enough to have lived in a lot of different mountain towns/regions and I have to Flagstaff is the place is it for me. It's very chill around here as far as the attitude thing is concerned and the outdoor opportunities are incredible. I guess though for me the skiing part weighs in small these days as far as achieving a high quality of life. I really just like being outside and you can always be doing something fun around here. I had to chime in since a few folks mentioned Flag and I know a lot of folks from the north don't consider it a mountain town or take it seriously and honestly that is part of what makes this place so attitude free and remains under the radar.
ha! thanks for that. gave me a chuckle i rather desperately needed this morning.
if i could afford it, i'd move up there without hesitation as we're up there all the time. the sterile cookie cutter hell i live in now gives me nightmares sometimes. it's like living on the set of stepford wives.
i've only been in the area for about 8 months now but i've yet to have a bad experience in boulder. everyone i meet running, riding or hiking is overly nice. but, i also haven't injected myself into the roadie groups heading out 36 and up Left Hand on the weekends.
