these debates and arguments are really gay. who really gives a fook who "has the best skiers" or "those guys are all posers there, etc", or "squaw has sicker steeps than the bird".
good people, its all fookin good. if you are lucky enough to live (or have lived/spent time) in any of these places (squaw/alpine/kirkweed, alta/bird, jackson, big sky, etc), or get to ski frequently any of these mountains, then life is good, and you are probably a pretty good skier, and in the end, who really gives a flying fook who is better, who has more rad terrain, etc?
i guess with age comes the need to do less dick waving, so if you are under 30, then carry on I suppose.....
I can see "The Scream" in that one!!!Quote:

I don't know about 99%, but it's high, and it's not limited to Mammoth. Where do you think all (well not all, but perhaps a majority) of the rippers in Utah, Jackson and Montana came from? Tahoe and Jackson are like UVM alumni clubs.Quote:

For pure lift served, in bounds skiing though, I don't think you can touch Squaw on a daily basis. It's the wet heavy snow! We don't need 3 feet of fresh to huck and ski big lines. Sometimes 6" is enough. The bumps dissapear after almost every storm and the runouts are smooth. That's the biggest differance I've found. Squaw has the conditions to push yourself to the limit, IN BOUNDS, RIDING LIFTS more often than any other mountain. The more you get to practice the faster you improve. And one overwhelming stat: huckable cliffs per acre. Nowhere comes close.
I've got to say, with Jackson and Mad River Glen being the exceptions, everytime I ski somewhere other than Squaw, I find the open accesible terrain rather tame in comparison.
Other than Squaw, Mad River Glen gets my vote. Being a Vermonter I'm biased, but nowhere will you find more people wearing duct tape, carharts and wool that ski better than you. A very humbling experience.
Have you skied much in Montana? I don't know about those other places, but the best skiers in Montana are mostly from Montana. Big sky is a bit of an exception perhaps, being as it is a destination resort in spades, but it is a magnet for MT kids who want to ski bum.Quote:

No one voted Breckenridge at #1- that place has the steepest terrain around! Yeah Right, When I used to go there, I had had a hard time staying more than an hour...
Squaw is great, I had some great powder days there this year. The only thing I hate about it are the slow ass granite chief and silverado lifts.

Silverado is slow, but at least (a) I've never seen a line there, and (b) it's got footrests.Quote:
