    Question Squaw Valley the best?

I have skied at about 10 areas around the country this year, last week at Mammoth. Great snow, good bumps, but the best skiers there were by far from Squaw Valley.

I’m not saying that other areas don’t have good/great skiers, but time and time again the talent that comes out of Squaw amazes me. What is it about Squaw that produces so many good skiers? I have never been to a ski area that has so many great skiers/riders. I guess I should ski Jackson before saying any more.

...err...there's good terrain in-bounds/open... and there is a long history of talent + film crews based there, which tends to breed more of each.

that said, there are many people that rip all over, in some places that you might not expect....and some in the backcountry where lifts don't reach.

methinks you probably should travel a bit more before making such a statement. it is rare that i get to say 'methinks'.

What makes youthinks that I haven't been around. But yes, I should get around more, its just fun to make those kinds of statement sometimes. I'm off to BC and Washington next year so that will be cool. I think that I was hoping to see the same talent at Mammoth.

Well, I think it was your statement that made me think that.

UAN doesn't really know what he's talking about. Minddoc, don't even bother with Jackson. Those scrubs over at TGR are really more show than anything. It's a shame, really, with all that gnarly terrain you'd think they would come up with something of value.

Squaw Vallley has the best collective of ripping skiers I've seen. In fact, I've never seen a close second.

Basom skis Squaw - case still closed.

Certainly nobody in the skiporn industry is from... say... LCC or Jackson....

The Jones brothers, Doug Coombs, and Chris Davenport all skied Blue Hills in Massachussetts. Case re-opened.

It's also lake tahoe's only premiere world class ski resort, home to the great trinity of only the most extreme ski talent over the years.

Yeah you can ski there too, but Squaw is the best place to start a 100 mile trail race.

    The do call it Squallywood...

Gotta agree that a lot of it has to do with a bounty of technical terrain/lines within view of the stands (chairlifts). You get to witness many a sweet huck on any given powder day. Plus, the plentiful sunshine helps huckers see their lines and you see them, as well.

    Ah, Squaw...<sigh>

Other benefit of the layout is you can scope your lines and set goals, viewing the lines from the chairlifts more so than any other mountain I've been at.

Having been around a little, I would vote:
    1. Jackson Hole
    2. Kirkwood
    3. Squaw
    4. Whistler (b/c of the huge backcountry)
    5. Snowbird
    6. Mohawk Mountain
