Conservation mowing is one thing. Not mowing is another. I tried to find my mom's gravestone in the cemetery in Baltimore and the grass is chest high in a large portion of it. Couldn't find it. No wildflowers. Lots of deer. And trees down on some of the roads.

one of those fuckers attacked me from below while i was lying in a hammock. kinda ruined my chill season.
immideatly i picked up the heat pen and start burning the shit out of that sting, like 6 or 8 heat shocks and it helped. neutralised most of the poison. still did not have the guts to attack the nest.

Paper wasps are usually more yellow. Or the ones I recognize are. The ones around here (western Montana) are pretty tame. Not very aggressive at all. 1 finally stung me once and it didn't hurt so bad. Made me a lot less scared of them. Still makes my skin scrawl, but you can just blast their nests with the hose and they kinda just give up.
This year, since I blasted most of the paper wasps, I've got a lot of yellow jackets from somewhere. They are a sucker for traps though. But they make it hard to eat outside.
Not using chemicals meant my veggie garden tot lots of bees. Bumble and honey. And yeah, if you move slow enough, you can pet them.

My running trail has at least three nests. I found the first one when I stopped to wait for someone. I'm pretty sure I stopped on their underground nest. They swarmed me. I felt like something was crawling all over me, then the stings came. It was really fucked up. It's a nice trail (and it has a gondola to come down), so I keep doing it. Usually, I go solo, so I only get stung once or twice every run. Yeah, it's pretty dumb that I keep going, but the fear of them keeps my pace up. My biggest achievement is that now I run uphill when they come after me. Good times, very motivating.
