I got the shot (free at work) and the rest of the family did not, all got wiped to varying degrees and I was spared. Whatever is going around is pretty harsh, multiple co-workers took 3-5 weeks to kick it.

Do you really think they make that much money on flu shots? As most people mentioned here, they get it free/cheap with insurance. I actually get money added to my HRA if I get one. If big pharma wanted to make the big money, they'd put all their eggs in the anti-viral medication basket and rake in the money for treatment.
Vaccine sales are a rounding error in the overall pharmaceutical market. Something like 2% of gross revenue and an even lower percentage of net profits.

Seattle Times had a story with this headline last week:
"Got the flu? Here’s what to do: stay home and avoid other people"
Hear fucking hear. It really irks me when sick people show up to work. If your work provides paid sick leave then take it when you're sick. You're not some kind of hero for showing up to work sick, you're a moran.
I get the flu shot every year. Even in flu seasons where it's not particularly effective it's a lot more effective than NOT getting one.
I don't know about the flu but there is a relatively rare disease called Q fever--an infection of heart valves and blood vessels--that is usually found in people who are in proximity to goats, sheep, and cattle. Virtually all the case series in the literature are from France or Quebec. Draw what conclusions you will.
Wow I didn't know this was such a big deal. I have seen a few vax thread and jokes but don't have kids so never tuned in.
No tin hat or aluminum hat here, hate big pharma but never occurred to me in not wanting flu shot. But read the article anyway and in it is a link this this article which was a worthwhile read

My anecdote, had the flu shot in the early 90's and the side effects made me feel like crap and missed a day of work. Haven't had a shot since then, 24 years or so, and have had the flu once or twice. Yes it sucked. But man guaranteed side effects every year or nothing for several years. Then add last year only 20% effective this year 10% kinda seems a net loss.
But all said I guess maybe you guys convinced me. Maybe I should get on that sicky bandwagon.
Tanner Hall got the flu vaccine and he ended up dying of full blown aids.
When I worked for the Scripps Research Institute, their policy was you were charged two (2) vacation days before sick leave kicked in. Lot's of people showed up for work with colds, and sometimes a flu. One year, 2010, I had four (4) colds. Never went in whilst contagious and lost at least eight (8) vacation days that year.
Scripps was a fucked up place from a senior administration level. Best fucking science I was ever associated with, but run like a third world shithole.
I've never been vaccinated against influenza, BTW. Never. Nor shall I ever be.

^^^Suzanne Humphries is widely regarded as a loony quack by most if not all reputable scientists and physicians.

Don't want it.
Suffered the flu four times since my teen years (we're talking forty or so years, boys and girls).

"I don't get the flu vaccine and I'm proud of it!"
"Why don't you get the vaccine, and why are you proud of it?"
"Just because."
And if the shot is even 25% effective, that's 1 less time
Vaccination against influenza all those years would have prevented all infections?

This stat alone should give anyone pause:
Texas has seen 1,155 combined adult flu and pneumonia deaths and four flu-related pediatric deaths in Texas as of a Jan. 12
So many vaccinations do us good - Polio, MMR, chicken pox, just to name a few why is the flu shot so vilified? Would anyone here refuse a polio vac?
