You for sure have some good points here, and I don't really know how to respond, but im half-drunk and bored so I will.

My only contention is that the thread shouldn't be deleted so that shmoe has the right to see it. I (along with many others) have watched this place turn into a community that would do things like this. I personally have been hooked the fuck up here as well. I just don't want to see it abused.

Also, it's not the suit's right to decide if the thread gets deleted. Maybe we should take a poll:rolleyes: . Fuck that. It was posted, it should be seen.

Maybe Shmoe has read these threads, maybe not. In any case, as Z has said, he deserves to see them. He has been forthright in his posts during this tragedy, on a forum, read by hundreds/thousands of people he has never met in person. He may not be as offended as some of you clearly are and may even respond to some of the questions posed by CM.

Let's not decide for him in an effort to protect him.

I don't want to post in the other thread, but I wanted to make known that I really don't care about learning the details. People aren't perfect, everyone tells lies, and the fact that Schmoe lost his wife is the only thing that really matters.

At any rate, it's just money. He could take it out as nickels and swim in a pool full of coins at his mansion overlooking LA that he shares with his Victoria's Secret model girlfriend and "poolboy," while dining on shark fin soup made from the fins of the last individual of an endagered (now extinct) species of mud shark and watching a pirated version of "Crossroads" on his 100" flat-screen HDTV in a beautiful distressed teak frame for all I care.

(preface)I'm a horrible skeptic and a fairly jaded person and sometimes I feel guilty for thoughts that I have.

I had to wonder why schmoe posted some of the details that he did, my first thoughts was that he was either inviting some crazy speculation, fishing for info, or at worst, posting with a guilty conscience.

Secondly, while not exactly asking for money, some of his initial posts were for money concerns, as I'm sure it would be for many of us at the time of such a tragedy, but he had to know that the maggots and their giving nature would latch on to that.

Of course, none of this means anything and it doesn't make how this was handled right, but it was made public from the very beginning. If I've offended anyone with this, I'm sorry, but it's nothing I wouldn't have said to anyone in person.

I take the view that the real world has contained anonymous written wisdom, vitriol, stupidity, and everything in between for as long as things have been written. That's part of who we are as humans. Anonymous expression can be really valuable.

I think whoever is behind that thread should drop the public thread and have a one on one exchange with Shmoe because that would be the classy thing to do.

To whoever that is: yeah you have a right to poke at someone's wound but it's lame. Totally 100% lame, and you should suck it up and do the right thing because as much as this forum is about letting us say what we want, it's also about rejecting douchey shit like giving a dude who just lost his wife the public 3rd degree a few days after the funeral. :nonono2:

No matter what the circumstances were, Doug lost his wife. Whatever the events leading up to her passing, she was his partner in life for longer than anyone else.

Everyone being the for Doug has kept him going regardless of whatever the full extent of the circumstances were because it showed that there were people out there in the world good enough to be there for someone NO MATTER WHAT. If your sympathy and compassion for someone is conditional on knowing the exact circumstances at all times you need to rethink your life.
