How long was your trip? Because in one day, we only really had the time to do Sugarloaf. We probably could've done Elk as well, but the snow was nasty, there was a helluva lotta wind-loading, and our real goal was Sugarloaf. On Day 3, during the skin out, we were planning on hitting Jacques Ridge, but we just didn't have the time.

Rose, those were some kick-ass pictures! Been to many 10th Mt huts, never been to Janets. Now I definitely want to go.

There is a lot of good sking near Janet's. Jaque's Peak has some amazing lines but is a good ski from the hut.

Well, he isn't an "official" avy instructor. He is an Aspen Ski instructor, and me and my two friends have been skiing with him for about 10 years, since we were like 5 or 6. Basically, he's a "friend" now, and takes us out on these tours in the BC. He has tought us how to apline, tele, he has tought us avy safety, life in the BC, etc., etc.

Privates at Keystone cost like $500 a day. :eek: Can't imagine how much in Aspen. Do you pay him now to take you into the backcountry, or how does all that work?

Well technically, he is my friend's ski instructor, so they pay the regular rate. My family and my other friend's family pitch in to pay the tip. It's still alot, but the load is certainly lightened by the fact that we split it.

As for taking us into the backcountry, we don't pay for that. After 10 years of skiing with him, my family and the other familes have become really close friends with him, and anything done "out of uniform" (like a BC trip), is just done as friends.

Yea I'm bumping this gem of a thread, heading to Janet's next weekend for some leftovers from last week's storm. any more beta or lulz?
