I am not much of a tequila fan, but a friend had some Del Dueno. He served it to me on the rocks with some crushed lime, and I have to admit, it was damn tasty.

I'll agree that the Cuervo Reserva de la Familia is incredible stuff, more like fine cognac than tequila. Highly recommended!
Cazadores Reposado is my choice for an everyday affordable bottle of tequila, $30 a liter at Costco and damn good stuff, rather drink it anyday than Patron which I think is highly overrated.
Bought a bottle of Cava Antigua Reposado in Puerto Vallarta a few years back and it's outstanding. Cool bottle too! Seen it a BevMo for about $60, you won't be disappointed!

Call me crazy, but I like the 1800 Anejo. Really carmelly, almost like candy.Quote:

I've gotta agree with BSS on his margarita tequila of choice. Hornitos is perfect. Good enough to give your margarita a little flavor and not make you sick/hungover; but also cheap enough so that you're not wasting good tequila by mixing it with the other marg ingredients.
agreed. i thought the bar sucked too...belongs in the states, not mexico.Quote:

Supposedly the recipe:
2 oz Cuervo Gold Tequila
1 1/2 oz DeKyper's Triple sec
1/2 oz Everclear grain alcohol
1 oz Roses Lime Juice
2 oz Apple Juice (any brand)
Try it out. Anyone from Colorado can vouch for them. I would sub the Cuervo, though.
A much better mega-bar in Cabo is El Squid Roe. That place was insane at 4:00am on a wednesday morning...Quote:

Espalon añejo for middlin' expensive - that stuff kicks Patron's ass. Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia when cost is no issue.
MMMMmmmmm!! Patron Anejo & the Reposado is very good
Patron is overpriced shite
friend gave me some Don Crispin reposado.
damn its yummy
smoky like a little mezcal or even scotch.
so good,
plus th ebottle is shaped like a lady
I stock the following brands at home (all anejo):
Don Fulano
Los Abuelos
el Duende
No one has mentioned Corzo yet?
2nd the Centenario, love the flavor.
I tend to like the more pricey anejos as I'm a whiney posh of a cognac/armagnac drinker. Now you guys want to talk pricey hardcore alcohol that's tough to get into? Let's talk grappa .... who knew a yeast could ferment 45% alcohol without self destructing itself.
I have no idea what yuou mean. No yeast goes beyond 21% alcohol. Grappa is distilled.
ok, here's the question:
whats the cheapest 100% blue agave tequila??
i always think that hornitos is a great bet, but there's gotta be something else out there that fits the bill of 100% agave/budget friendly...
and for the record: rose's lime = not legit for a truly great marg
Tippster knows way too much about alcohol, or I know way too little.
Its not the taste of the Tequila that matters, its the stories it produces.
In my honest opinion, if you are not cutting the fresh lime and squeezing it into the drink it is not going to be a good marg.
Anything like rose's, or premixed, or (gasp, as it was once prepared for me by a maggot that thought his were the best, taken from a minutemaid limeaid mix) simply isn't going to give you a good result.
Man I could use a good tequilla. Somehow I don't think the misses would approve of me spending a healthy portion of my unemployment check on a bottle though.
Since this thread was last bump had a chance to drink the Cazadores. Awesome and I don't see how anyone could disagree. Hard to find around here though.

Currently about half way through a bottle of the Don Eduardo we were given as a wedding gift. Woody with and small bite but then a very smooth finish. Mmmm. Seeing this revived inspired me to have a shot.
Tip is right
if you are drunk on Grappa, its my fault.
i love that shit.....
specially the fruit steeped ones @ becco.
tip you gotta let me put you i Geronimo's good hands one night you are up here.
I think it's only been owned by Bacardi since mid-2006 and is fairly limited in bars and liquor stores, but I'm big fan. My buddy recently started doing marketing for them, and he quickly realized how horribly managed the brand has been. Should be a lot popular than it is, but I supposed that's why he now has a job.
