It's bitter cold here in VT. But it has been colder before. Supposed to hit the deep freeze tomorrow morning. Slight challenge keeping the water in liquid form for the chickens. I may have to break down and get a heated waterer.
11F @ Alpental this morning.
Thanks for sharing that. Didn't know the man. Not that into fishing and from this article he had moved to Maupin before I moved here. Sad story.

There is some outrageously good fishing in a short radius of here on Mckenzie, Metolious and Deschutes.
Back to weather. We now have just short of three feet of snow down here and temps around 15F. Which is same temp as Mt Bachelor base right now. Supposed to go to -5F tonight. Spent yesterday with a shovel and snow blower. At least we get a break in snowfall for a few days
-6 this morning. Has warmed up to a balmy 2 degrees!
-12 F in Golden Gate Canyon at 8600 ft this morning and about 6" of snow. Looks like the first plowing of the season today. Much nicer chaining up yesterday when it was 50 deg than waiting till today.
I'm waiting for pellets to go on sale at HDepot before permanent chain up for the winter.
Sneeting this am gives way to rain this afternoon.
-23F at first chair here in Big Sky today. Warmed up to +2F by midday. As much as I made fun of the new 6 pack lift, I gotta admit heated seats and a bubble are money in these temps. Went in for hot cocoa about every 4 or 5 runs. Boot warmers, mittens, balaclava are the uniform of the day.
Did the lodge have a snotcicle station in sevice?

Almost 3 days after the storm ended.
Luckily we were only without for 23 hours.
High temp was 20* on Friday, 5" of snow yesterday and now it's 50 degrees with the densest fog we've had in many years with thunderstorms on the way and expecting near 2" of rain this afternoon :( Tonight it's supposed to go down to 15 degrees :nonono2:
I think Lewis Black did a bit on this kind of weather. (see marker 7:19 for New England weather)

Just saw snowflakes here in Ocean Springs, MS.
Small freezing rain storm last night in NC. Roads salted. Hill went from soft cheese to fast ice, to moon surface in about an hour.
OK, since the South is reporting in, it was 74 and sunny on Saturday here in Austin. Played a little golf.
On Sunday, dipped down to 25. No snow, though.
And it's official - 2016/2017 was butt cold in the PNW:
The Weather Channel ranked Walla Walla second in the Northwest as having the most miserable season. Portland OR came in first.

Where January 2017 Ranked as One of the Wettest, Warmest or Coldest on RecordQuote:
While the East and parts of Alaska saw a warmer-than-average January, the Northwest saw much colder-than-average conditions.
Burns, Oregon, experienced its second-coldest January on record, with an average temperature of only 11.1 degrees. This is colder than the average low in January – 14.8 degrees. The current record is 10 degrees, set in 1949.
Portland, Oregon, has seen more than its fair share of wintry weather. Temperatures were well below the average of 41.4 degrees, with an average temperature in January of 33.5 degrees. This is actually colder than the average January low of 35.8 degrees. The chilly conditions resulted in Portland reporting its seventh-coldest January.
Pocatello, Idaho, also reported its seventh-coldest January, with an average temperature of 16.4 degrees, and Walla Walla, Washington, experienced its fifth-coldest January, with an average temperature of 22.2 degrees.
Portland, Oregon, May Be America's Most Winter-Fatigued City in 2016-17
Finally getting to the point where I can actually see terra firma! Yay! Should be able to get up my driveway by tomorrow. Something I haven't been able to do except on foot for the last month.
