Shit Ty, I was really hoping this wasn't the case, but it has happened to many of us, we are there with ya.
I stayed pretty positive when this happend to me...It's kinda crazy to say but what kept me stoked and happy was the fact that my friends were out getting the goods, skiing where i should be skiing and telling me how sick it was....wierd, i know.
Stay positive and know that this will only make you stronger, however it turns out.

Ty, I'm so sorry to hear this. And just when the Mrs. Shoe wanted to get some new skis to ski with you.... :( Geez, I hope you find out results that won't keep you out of this season. Good luck and keep us updated!!

Always a drag to hear about this. Blew mine up in January 03 and got it fixed the same month w/ a patellar tendon graph. Ill throw in my $.02 and hope you can glean something useful from it
Just some more thoughts. I had a full tear and knew it by the way it felt. Loose as a goose and my Doc knew it too so there was no MRI --i think that you gotta get one is a good sign then.
My surgery was out patient and I left the hospital on my own power. Defenitely in a deep pharmy haze for a day or two, the surgery was friday and I was back in classes on Monday. In my experience the pain was minimal (the dr. had some good preemptive meds to get me through the first coupla days) and I was off pain killers completely in 3 days.
I didnt risk skiing on it because the threat of doing more damge. The ACL is critical for knee stabilization and w/out one the rest of the ligaments and tib/fib femur are more suceptible.
If you do need to get it fixed make everything super strong before hand and you will be better off. grind out some long rides it will also keep the brain from dwelling on it which is also real important.
Anyway i strapped on the boards a in May and still managed to log in a handful of days in the bc. Skied w/ a brace last year, but dont plan on it for the 04-05 season.

School, and only took ~ 9 hours that semester. Tore it 12-5-01, surgery 12-26-01(it was loads of fun watching everyone eat xmas dinner). 2nd surgery 3-12-02, 3rd surgery 11-?-02.Quote:

No worry's buddy. I completly tore my ACL the season before last. Missed 4 months after surgery and then started throwing 360's at COC by summer. Work hard and be positive mentally and nothing will deter you from confidence on the slopes.
Last season I blew my other knee out (back to back blowouts! now that sucks!)and had to recover from an MCL tear for 8 weeks. Still positive as I focused on other interests that were shadowed by endless winters. Now I'm fine and stoked to throw down this season.
Work hard and listen to your physiotherapist and ortho to rebuild your strength and you too will shine again shortly!

Sorry about the injury Shoe. Maybe we could get a rehab forum on this board? Keep your mind positive from the moment you wake up till the time you lay your head on that pillow and all will be well. I have found having an attractive PT also helps.
That sucks. I wouldn't count out the entire season though. If it is torn, schedule the surgery ASAP. If I recall you have a fairly reputable (sp?) doc. I think the key to a quick and successful recovery is the skill level of the surgeon. 8 days after both surgeries, I waas walking without a limp. I really like the fact that my doc believed in getting the knee moving immediately after surgery. I was in a passive motion machine forthe first week after surgery. I also think it helps with pain, I only had to take ibuprofen, no prescription pain killers were needed. I have torn both of my ACL's and was back to full activity in under 6 months both times. I am pretty sure that my doc is the same one that AC and Endless had. The second surgery was done Jan 2, 2001 and I skied April 1 of the same year (doc did not recommend it). If you had it done in the next few weeks, you could realistically be skiing by the end of March. Good luck, I hope the MRI shows that you don't need any surgery.
As far as PT goes, I did most of my PT on my own. I only went to 10 PT sessions total, but made sure that I knew how to do the exercises the PT prescribed properly. Wi
