Yeah... leave 'em a note.

I've hit parked cars twice. Both times I left a note with the intension of paying my due. Both times the drivers said "f-it, it's not worth the trouble." One of 'em was a pretty good sized dent. However, I was a broke-ass ski bum at the time and the guy I hit was also a broke-ass ski bum. He just said "it gives my car more character - don't worry about it."

Sometimes karma does seem to work.

On the other hand, I've had my car hit a few times, one of them was pretty bad. At that time, I was a broke-ass student. I drove around for 3 years with a crappy Mitsubishi pick-up with the side bashed in along the bed of the truck. It was a serious estrogen deterant. I'm pretty sure that's why I hardly got laid during that period of time. (It couldn't have been my socially awkward personality or my antsocial tendancies, right? Chicks dig that crap, or so I've heard.) Where was my karma then? I must have beaten a puppy or shitted on someone's lawn around that time. It sucked. At very least they could have paid my deductable....:rolleyes:

No, I believe that we have a misunderstanding on what a minor scratch is. My comment was for a scratch that was no longer than 4" in any direction and can be easily rubbed/buffed out or hidden with 1 minute of careful touch up paint work. Any kind of dent or moderate damage (large scratches and scrapes or paint totally removed) that requires professional repair you should leave info.

And even with leased vehicles, isn't there a insurance requirement for damage as part of the leasing contract?

Just so you know. It is illegal in most states/cities to hit a vehicle, whether attended or not, and leave the area w/out leaving any information. So, I guess I would leave my info. I'd certainly take pleasure in finding the person who hit my car and didn't leave any info. I personally don't like burning up my own money (for a deductible) on something I didn't create.

In the situation presented, I feel strongly that karma is more important than the $$$ lost by paying for the damage done. Money comes and goes and is worth a hell of a lot less the shitty, shitty feeling that the owner of that car will have when he sees that someone fucked with his car.

Nobody said anything stupid like "try to pay your employees with 'good karma' durrrr" except you, so relax.

But not more important than the money gained by buying a shirt, crashing your bike, then returning the shirt because it has a hole in it.

My truck has a big bumper
That bumper was very bent and my rear qp had some damage
Cost to me: 250 bucks
Karmic Balance? Knowing that drunk fucker had to have a LOT of damage to their vehicle (there was a bunch of broken shit there that didn't come from me and you could tell that the way it hit their car had gone under the back quarter of the truck- SUCKIT MOTHERFUCKER!)

I have a few times bumped bumpers p-parking. No harm no foul.

I was hit in a parking lot in jackson. Even though they didn't leave info it was okay after I steamed off. It only cost me $100 to get the spot buffed and repainted. If you have a guilty conscience leave them money without a name. That would be alot cheaper.

I'm with the "do the right thing" camp here. Unless the car belongs to someone you think is a tool. :p

Generally speaking though, this is why I'm a believer in having a somewhat crappy car. My car is at a perfect stage of semi-crappiness now. It runs great, and it looks fairly decent. But I can tell you with all honestly that I cannot count the dings, scratches and small dents in it anymore. So I do not care. Ding away, my friends...to your hearts desire!

Now if only I could get to the point of feeling this way about all the things I consider to be my "possessions" I think I would be truly and completely happy in this life.

Stamford Station + SUV + Yuppie in a hurry = Hit and run central.

Once I smacked a nice size dent in a car. I looked around the parking lot and saw not a soul. I decided long and hard. and I just couldnt bail.
I knew it was gonna cost me a pretty penny I left a note,
and eventually settled with cash, after I made the lady go get some estimates. $450.00 later, I was somewhat relieved.

the main reason I didnt bail? was because I WAS NOT 100% sure there were any cameras in the parking lot!

I was walking out of the grocery store one day and watched a guy in a van (older GMC pannel van thing) pull the bumper off my car....I had both arms full of groceries, and couldn't make out his plate number. Had I been able to, the prick would have caught a can-o-corn in the back window.....

my friend had his 68 nova that he is just about done restoring and he had it at school on the second to last day-he came out after school to see a plate sized dent in his front end and no note-so yea i would leave a note cause that would suck-even if it was only a scratch i would leave a note and especially(sp?) since there was a bush sticker. thats my 2 cents

Pretty much. I doubt their scratch was worse than mine and mine was about $100. It saves you and them insurance shit and you are not screwing them over. I was screwed.

I'm going to start a new thread: What Would The Maggots Do If: They saw a car with a few hundred dollar bills tucked under the wimpy wiper.

I would be sure to return to that parking lot every day until I saw the car I took the money off of, and I would tuck pictures of all the strippers I spent their C-notes on, under the wiper.

I would also not turn in a backpack full of money I found in the park, but we've been over that already.

or you could always leave you info, have them get a quote and then give them the correct ammount of money.

I don't think most people would have a problem with you explaining why you didn't want to go through your insurece company and get fucked by rate hikes etc. when you're gonna pay for the damage anyway.

Best case they look at it and say it's no big deal, don't worry about it.

Worst case the guy tries to screw you by saying it's $500 worth of damage when it's $100. But you can't worry about people who might be that shady and say, fuck it let me screw them before they screw me and just jet. Well I guess you could, pre-emption is a philosophy that has gained more credibility recently

But anyway, I think most people would appreciate your honesty and willingness to take responsibility and and not try to fuck you over for doing the right thing.

Some chick backed into my brother's motorcycle and knocked it over, and explained to him why she didn't want to deal with the insurance so they just worked it out themselves, but I think there were a couple other incidents of assholes who did the same thing and just left
