I'm looking for a bike right now. I'm pretty new(wrecked every bike I've been on((3))) I will mostly use it to commute but would like to tour a lot on it too. Under 5 grand. I want something like a BMW GS600 but cheaper. I think "sport touring" is the class.
Any suggestions?????

Smart move...I'm sure it's overstated, but you can't wrong with the MSF course. I knew how to ride when I took it, and I still learned something and had a ton of fun too.Quote:

This probably should go in gear swap but I figured I'll spam in here. Does anyone need a helmet or riding pants?
I've got a XL Shoei TZ-R flat black helmet and a pair of Joe Rocket textile pants in XXL ( i usually wear 36/38 jeans and these pants fit well with jeans or shorts on underneath, not too baggy ). PM me if interested.

I'll third that. I picked up an 06 SV650S last May and couldn't be happier with it. It's not the fastest bike around and won't pull wheelies at 90, but it is comfortable for commuting and will go faster than I need to. Even as a small v twin, it will get to 110 before you know it and it doesn't take much more road to get it to 145.Quote:

BTW...typically motocycle speedo's will display 3-6% over the actual speed...but that doesn't make too much difference IMHO, 140 vs 145 is a wash, it's still fast. Unless you're racing, you really don't need that top end anyways.

What kind of riding do you intend to do, cause the handling of those bike is very different i think. hard to decide. the main factor for me with the vmax is that it will be a durable bike that won't need much work over a 60,000 mile life and I can do some traveling with it. The vrsc is similar but probably not as durable. The firebolt is really what I want....I had an S1 white lightning that I loved and I said I'd get another when I could. I'm really leaning toward the bolt except I don't like that it would be hard to take a long road trip with it.
you can all congratulate me for not even considering another rigid triumph or ironhead chopper. ;) although those still hold a place in my wish list.

Go with the Vmax - you can get a used one way cheaper, cheaper parts, and given that you seem to ride bikes till they die, you should look for cheap entry price. That and the fact the vmax has been around what...20+years? should be a ton of parts bikes out there for next to nothing if you ever have a major problem.Quote:
