For any of you nordies out there (or pineys that assume you won't be riding lifts this season), the MCV discount ski cards are available - https://www.mychamplainvalley.com/go...rdic-ski-pass/
I verified that they are not going to be offering a similar card for the alpine ski resorts, but they are trying to work with select mountains to offer some deals.

Cross swath if you would? Lets see some more of that meat next time eh?
I kinda got the impression that he was holding the line. He was mad pissed that diligent contact tracing has yielded 71% of infections coming from adults partying indoors & alcohol. He openly pushed back on ppl resisting restrictions.
He was emphatic that this is not a spike coming from gyms, restaurants, tourists or schools. Went on to say that he was listening to pediatricians & keeping schools open & economy going based upon science. Kids are not transmitting in schools, even when positive & restaurants have been effective with measures. Ended w/ ~ cant help ya if you don't believe in science.
I have been a hard ass on the tourists wanting to not quarantine, but if the sci points to dumbasses drinking at indoor parties - I have to update my views on the matter.
From what I see here in area as well.... that kids are not transmitting in schools....we are “face to face” with those rug rats all day long (w/masks)....but nobody is getting sick (yet?)....it’s definitely strange that our school has been free of spread for the past 11 weeks.
Weirds me out too how it hasnt wrecked the vt school system (knock on wood). Colleges seem to be going to hell just at the last moment though. Bringing covid back from college to your family might just become a new family tradition. Outbreaks at UVM, St mikes, and prolly Midd soon. Hope snow bowl does alright.
Up here in Maine we are also seeing that schools remain safe places with low to no transmission being traced back to them
“Our cases are growing, leading to some big steps to slow the spread, addressing areas that our data tells us are driving the spike: mostly adults from multiple households gathering with friends, usually involving alcohol/food with little to no masking and distancing: bit.ly/3kG6j9p. Since we made this announcement, we’ve gotten questions/concerns from some who believe there's inconsistency in our approach and from some who would prefer we shut down restaurants or schools, or close businesses like gyms and salons but not restrict private social gatherings.
Let’s talk about consistency: From the beginning, we have consistently used data and science to guide our decisions. I understand it may seem counter-intuitive that restaurants are open, yet you can’t have neighbors over for dinner. But from October 1 to November 13, 71% of outbreaks were linked to social events, not restaurants or gyms, which tells us the protocols at these businesses are working. We’ve got to prioritize need over want, and in-person education, protecting our healthcare system and keeping people working safely
To the skeptics: If you want to ignore or choose not to believe the science, there’s not much we can do to stop you. But the number of people in hospitals is growing because some care more about what they want to do rather than what they need to do to help protect others. The consequences of an overwhelmed healthcare system will have a far greater impact on our economy and welfare than all the prevention and mitigation measures. The skeptics are right, they can do what they want. But please don’t call it patriotic or pretend it’s about freedom. Real patriots serve and sacrifice for all, whether they agree with them or not. Patriots stand up and fight when our nation’s health and security is threatened, and right now, our country and way of life are being attacked by this virus, not the protections we put in place.
By Friday, we’ll provide more clarity on social gatherings to help Vermonters understand what we need from them and that we’re stepping up at the state level as well. We’re expanding our testing and tracing capacity to make testing more available, opening 5 testing centers this week that will operate 7 days a week so two-thirds of Vermonters will be within a 30-minute drive of a testing site. We’ve also started offering testing for all teachers/school staff, testing ~1,700 yesterday and continuing throughout the week. And we now have 40 full time contact tracing staff and we're adding ~20 Vermont National Guard members and 10 Department of Public Safety staff in the next two weeks.”
Phil Scott
and this is why we can't have nice things.
Maine has the most awesome CDC Director, just a level headed cool cat. Dr Nirav Shah today on Maine calling was asked for the millionth time about mask wearing. His answer- at this point if you’re not wearing a mask you really need to ask yourself why.
I certainly don’t agree with Phil Scott on all matters but I was very impressed when he said this. He was clearly directing this at the true north reports wing of the vt Republican Party.
Where you stand on state guidelines and Covid really seems to come down to how you feel about unnecessary death. I’m sure we can all agree with Phil that needless deaths should be minimized...

Dear VARA Clubs,
Since the Goventer's new mandates last Friday we have been trying to get clarification on some questions. We understand that this is confusing and difficult but hang in there as we try and fully understand what this means for ski programs in VT. VARA simply passes information and hopefully provides clarification of what comes from the Governor's office onto clubs and members. We do not, and are not responsible for enforcement or creating any of the policies or mandates coming from the state. At this point it appears that all club, league, and recreational activities are on hold.
Below you'll find communication from Julie Moore from
VT.Gov
on questions asked just after the mandate came out on Friday. Please note we are following up with some more questions which went to Julie today. They pertained to clarification on clubs operating under ski school/resorts, vs 501 c 3's, VS clubs who are affiliated with their academy program. I will let you know what the response is.
Please remember and please let your program members know that VARA does not create or have any role in mandates coming from the state other than passing the info along, advocate for programs and we will continue to operate as best we can.
This is from Julie Moore VT Dept of Nat Resources - (she has been communicating with the state, VPA, club, league, and rec program communications)
Thank you to the many of you who have reached out today to ask questions and clarify understanding of what the Governor’s directive means for recreational sports. The
updated guidance is now available on the Agency of Commerce and Community Development’s website
. Below I endeavor to answer the myriad questions I received:
Q:
What does today’s announcement mean?
A:
All recreational sports activities - practices, games, and tournaments - are suspended until further notice.
Q:
What sports are covered by today’s announcement?
A:
Today’s announcement applies to all organized sports and competitive recreational sports activities, including youth and adult offerings, held in both indoor and outdoor venues. Specifically, organized sports include, but are not limited to: running meets and races; soccer and indoor soccer/futsal; softball; baseball; lacrosse; basketball; ice hockey; broomball; volleyball; tennis, ball golf and disc golf play with anyone outside your immediate household; equestrian events; bass fishing tournaments; cheerleading;
alpine ski racing
; freestyle skiing competitions; snowboard racing and freestyle competitions; nordic ski racing; track and field; field hockey; ultimate frisbee; football; crew and double scull; rugby; competitive swimming; bowling leagues; gymnastics; figure skating; team dance; and, wrestling.
Q:
When do these changes take effect?
A:
At 10p tomorrow
, Saturday, 11/14.
Q:
Are there athletic activities that are NOT covered by today’s announcement?
A:
Yes. Outdoor recreation and fitness activities which require do not require physical contact with anyone outside your immediate household. This includes, but is not limited to biking, hiking, walking, running and other outdoor fitness activities; horseback riding, boating and paddle sports, fishing, hunting, photography and nature walks.
Q:
How does this comport with the guidance recently released by the
Agency of Education related to school-based winter sports programs
?
A: Fall school-based sports have ended and winter sports programs may not initiate coach-led practice sessions (e.g., skills and drills work) and inter-squad scrimmages (within a school program)
before Monday, 11/30
. This date may be revisited if rates of infection and health trends do not show significant improvement between now and later this month.
Q:
The Executive Order says it is to remain in effect
until 12/15
, will there be weekly updates or should we be planning to close until at least
12/15
?
A:
Addendum #8 to Executive Order 01-20
, issued earlier today, extends the declared State of Emergency until at least
12/15
. As the Governor indicated in his remarks today,
he is committed to reviewing several of the specific measures identified in the addendum, including recreational sports, weekly in order to determine whether and when the data support a return to play, which may be sooner than
12/15
. Please keep in mind, the suspension may also be extended beyond
12/15
if there is little change (or further deterioration) in the rate of infection and other health trends.
If I have missed anything or if my responses beget more questions, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. I am grateful for your immediate attention to these unfortunately necessary and extremely important public measures.
With appreciation,
Julie Moore
