The rates of suicide, addiction, and other self-destructive behaviors around trans and trans curious people is astounding. He knows my history with self medication and addiction, and thus far has expressed no interest in drugs or alcohol.
But he had an amazing time at Dead and Company! He knew right away that he was with 50,000 of the least judgemental souls that he has ever been around. He lit up and grooved in a way I have never seen, he normally has really bad social anxiety, but it was gone. He was even dancing, and joking with all of the deadheads around him. It was revelatory.
(And yes, I am still not 100% in on the pronouns, we travel a lot in Spanish speaking countries, and he really doesn’t care how people address him).
He also still dresses like a sloppy ass dude.
So who knows. I am sure the first time he is actually attracted to someone will be very illuminating, whether gay, straight, or curly.
